Must you play with all 6 races? (Counting Humanity)

Is there an option to play with less races than 6?
(counting your race- humanity as 1)...can it be limted
to say...3 random races? you and 2 others? or must it
be you and the 5 others every time?

just curious.

You can disable any civilization at the start.

Try this setting when you get the game :
I call it 'deathmatch'

Disable all major races except 1, for example altarians.
Choose a gigantic galaxy with hardly any habitable planets.
You play as good and for example the altarians at evil
(or viceversa)

Now if that isn't interresting :)
