General Homsar's "Whine and Rant" Board!

Need to blow off some steam, but don't think mass genocide of Torians will do the trick?Don't worry, because this is the board for you! Here's my rant: That hundreds of monumentally stupid lawsuits pop up every day, and some even make it to court. For example: Filing HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS against hair salons that charge more for women's hair-cuts.

I do not agree with you here. Is it age that defines us as adults? or is it maturity? Some mentally challenged people have the maturity level of a 6 or 8 year old. Are they children or adults because they are 50 years old?

They are adults because they have played out the hand given to them. Children have not had that chance yet - and this is what makes all the difference!

This came back from hell to purgatory. But I have one last whine: My head hurts!   You guys can whine and rant all you want. Me? I'm gonna go over there.

My head hurts too! not from this thread, but from trying to figure out what computer system to buy??? I don't know what is a good motherboard or cpu setup?

What i have learn't so far is that there are intel core duo processors and then there are intel core duo processors 'x' which seem to be the best i dunno why?

It is all so confusing.
You want a Core 2 processor with a Duo or Quad (correspondingly signifying 2 or 4 cores) designation. As far as mobos are concerned, someone else will have to answer that.

I decided what i want,

Asus P5B deluxe motherboard
E6400 Core 2 duo cpu
1GB PC6400 DDR2 - 800 SDRAM
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 HDD
EVGA Geforce 7900 GS Graphics

Got it from a link suggested to me in another thread... http://arstechnica.com/guides.ars

Now all i have to do is source it! Which is hard because every pc dealer has one or the other item but not everything.

Well i am in Australia

Also the recomended price for that processor is USD $220 or AUD $270. But pc dealers here want around AUD $350! Which sucks because the processors are shipped to Australia from Asia just the same as they are shipped from Asia to America!!!

If you don't mind my asking... why only 1 gig of RAM? If you're going to build a system, build a SYSTEM! I would've recommended Asus myself but WTF do I know... just my preference. Seriously though, consider more RAM and make sure the mobo has enough DIMM slots.

Just make sure you choose memory carefully. Intel's more recent chipsets are notorioulsy picky about DDR2-800 support.

If you can find one for not much more, I would go with a GeForce 7950. Personally, I've got a 7900 GT KO; but I've heard the 7950's blow them away.

http://www.newegg.com is a good place to buy parts; but I am not sure if they do business with Australia.

Because i'm not planning on using Windows Vista or xp64 bit.
Eventually i will, but by then the ram should be much cheaper so i will save some money.

Will do

I checked out there website. The prices are good but the descriptions are vague which is a serious problem! also they don't mention if they do business overseas.

Overall i think the newegg website is much crappier than it should be for such a big company. (well this is a whine and rant thread)

I've found newegg is one of the most informative sales sites around. Reviews, specs (sometimes more info than the manufacturers' sites), and readily availible links to manufacturers' own pages for the the devices.

(However, since you are in Australia, I would avoid getting a mobo from them. They tend to get damaged in shipping; and while newegg is good about replacing defective items, you will have to pay the return shipping.)

Looking at the prices here in Australia, even with the cost of shipping and the exchange rate, i'm likely to save allot of money if i can buy from Newegg, i mean a an intel e6400 processor best price here in Australia is $278 USD, hopeless! And that p5b deluxe board... $261 USD! These prices are killing my budget!!

Okay, time for a new rant! I am sitting here at work as my co-worker peruses ebay to compare prices on the Nintendo Wii. He bought his online for 400.00 as a bundle, because of course no stores around here have them, and wants to track if what he paid was 'fair'. Now they are going for upwards of 650.00 on ebay and one person alone has 12 units for sale. So here it goes...
First, with Nintendo pretty much lagging in the console wars for a good number of years now and finally after all of that putting out a hit system with the Wii... why the f**k aren't they pumping them out like a welfare mom has babies? I mean, more product, more sales, right? What am I missing? Nintendo has a chance to make a serious dent in the other manufacturer's armor and what are they doing with this chance? Who cares if the units are readily available in Japan... this is the USA! WTF!?!
Part two of this rant... shouldn't there be some way to stop these people who CAN get their hands on a bunch of units and then re-sell them on ebay? Profiteering at this level is just sickening and there should be something done about it. I don't care that someone is savvy enough to make a buck, or insightful enough to plan ahead... but to have 12 units available? Now my co-worker just showed me that one guy was boasting he sold 175 units and that he knew of another guy who had sold over 300 units. Where the hell are they getting these games if there are none in the stores?
I know, the majority in here will probably say "more power to him" or "wish I would have thought of that" or "so what's wrong with that" and I can deal with that. I myself would probably do the same thing, just not to that extreme of an extent. My problem with this is it is definitely 'profiteering', something that I thought the authorities frowned upon, and yet nothing is being done. I guess I really shouldn't care since I am not the sucker parting with 600.00 for a 250.00 system and eventually, when I am ready for one, there will be shelves filled with them, but I do care. I care enough that if I knew where one of those guys lived I'd pay him a visit with an old fashioned Louisville Slugger and knock a few out of the park... or off his shoulders I should say.

I thought there was a law against profiteering... or am I wrong?

It's the buyer's problem IMO. If they want to get their spoiled little brat a WII for jacked up prices instead of smackin' it's head thats fine!

My rant: Parents who let their kids do whatever they want! I'm tring to eat and little Jhonny Son of a *itch is screamin his head off! Parents need to control their kids!

And another thing: What gives little 8 year olds the authority to smart mouth their elders or even people who are older than them in general?

One more thing kid related: Kids never respect authority and are self-righteous. (Atleast the dumb ones anyway. Ironoic huh?) I saw on the news recently that a school bus driver was scared of someone getting killed on his school bus. The kids are always smokin weed and doing drugs and fighting. Letters are written to the parents, but they are just as irresponsible. Teachers don't have enough authority anymore, I remember my parants telling me that Nouns struck their knuckles with rulers. Crueal yes, but you wouldn't screw with that Noun anymore. I wish teachers could have the authority to break some kids nose because he is a *ouche bag. No more "go to office" and "Referals" The kid needs to get his *ss kicked for being a disrespectful smart*ss *iss ant!!! *Sigh*.........

Evil, can you even truly profiteer on what is a luxury item?

I mean food, water, gas, shelter fit under the basic needs requirement and I understand the immorality of making an unhealthy amount of profit from them in times of trouble...But no one needs a game system, and if the price isn't fair you can always just not buy one.

precisely.

Why not just buy a real computer instead??

Game consoles... biggest sale scam ever for offloading second rate pc's! I mean without their 'exclusive' games what are they? Think about the computer you threw out because it was five years old, then somone dressing it up and selling it back to you again - oh now you have a console!!!

The first part of your sentance is dead right, the second part is why it happened!

Teachers using punishment irrisponsibly to satisfy their own egoes are to blame.

Teachers do need the authority to use physical control methods, if for no other reason than the safety of our children! I mean if another child wan't to stab your child with a knife in class tomorrow, what can the teacher do? You tied his hands with stupid laws.

I agree that teachers shouldn't be able to beat the crap out of a dumb student if that student is atleast respectful to the teacher. That would just be wrong!

Kids don't the law seriously because the law is to tied up. the jails are full, minors, ect.

The law is not supposed to be used to controll children, that dousn't work, children do not understand laws and lowyers, they do quickly learn how to manipulate it all tho!

It is a thing called spanking that is suposed to be the backup for controlling children.

Did you ever hear about attention deficit dissorder 30/40 years ago? No, because they had Attention deficit spanking order syndrome instead.

Well I did ask if I was right or wrong so pssssf! Just playing!
I was merely trying to convey that I think it's both idiotic and wrong... but that's my opinion. 'They' put limits and laws and regulations on everything else so one could only figure that there would be someone out there screaming foul and having enough influence to do something about it.
Nah, if they had enough influence they would probably be indirectly profiting off of it somehow.

Idiotic? Definitely. Wrong? Eh. But then again, I think half the things people do in this world are idiotic! And the fools willing to overpay to have a game system NOW (instead of waiting a few months and buying it at retail prices in a store), will always be separated from their money one way or another...The only question is who is going to get it.

Speaking of laws and regulations, is there anyone who doesn't believe we could scrap 99% of our laws and never miss them? The are still laws on the books in many places that require you to do things like fire a gun into the air when approaching an intersection in a car (go ahead, follow that law!), and require you to "hitch" your car to a "hitching" rail, from back in the good old days when horses were the prime means of transportation.

Hehe. Does that law make it legal to commit a crime as long as you give notice?

Thanks for the chuckle. Did you find that one here?
