Why Just Vista Ultimate?

Why is Dream only available for Vista Ultimate? Vista Home Premium has everything Ultimate has except the business stuff.

That's the way Microsoft made it. They wanted people to shell out more money for the Ultimate version for those extras.

its called greed.

If you want them that bad, you'll save the money and upgrade to Ultimate. At this point....I'd say wait.

Boss is right, your not missing allot right now..

There is an alternative, it isnt "Dreams" but basically the same thing..if you just gotta have it, and you cant afford Ultimate, try this vista Rewired

Just be mindful that with those alternative programs, your CPU usage may increase. That's the primary difference between the ability to play vids as wallpapers and Dreamscenes...Dreamscenes (the soon-to-be-released full version anyway) will have GPU optimization to take almost all the work off the CPU and put it on the graphics card.

I'm looking on the bright side.....Gives me the time to save up for a more decent graphics card.

Dream is not all it's made out to be,so save your money,or use it for something better.

Video on my desktop?  meh
Events on my desktop triggered by other event?  Way cool!

I'll withhold judgement for a while yet.

I like the new Windows Vista Ultimate! It´s pretty stylish! Man but the only thing is, that it needs so much CPU!!! But all in all it´s much better than XP or other versions...

I agree 100% with Zubaz... people are casting their judgment way too soon. Wait until triggered dreams get completely fleshed out(not just a week or two after their debut!) and a lot more premium quality dreams are released before you officially deem dreamscenes and deskcapes "a flop".

Personally im totally excited about the whole thing. Every day I wake up wondering "oh! I wonder if 1.01 is out yet. Oh! I wonder if the final version of dreamscene has been released yet! Oh I wonder if there is another premium dream to me to snatch?" I guess im just a geek at heart...

I think maybe people wouldnt have cast as much judgement if they hadnt been so promoted so eagerly.. same thing with Vista.

4 of the top 20 downloads from WinCustomize.com in the past month are Dreams. And considering Dreams only run on Windows Vista Ultimate -- a fraction of a fraction of the traffic, I think anyone suggestng that animated wallpapers are a "flop" may want to re-evaluate that.

The fact is, a lot of people, myself included, LIKE animated wallpapers. The key is having somethign that uses few resources and has content people are interested in.

I never suggested they were a flop in anyway.. I just think because of all the drawbacks at this time, as far as drivers, processors and Dreams being beta is contributing to the casting of negative judgment.

I also like animated walls.. I just cant run them and not be aggravated by my fan cycling on and off.. and im on a 3.4 Dual.

Please don't confuse my realistic grounded view of Dreams and Vista as negativity. I WANT all this new stuff to work great, I want Stardock and Dreams to succeed ( it bodes well for me ) and I like progress.. they just, for many people..don't..yet.

Triggered walls sounds very cool.We must remember..anything Vista related is more beta than final...plus I bet in a short while you will see a 3rd party app that extends the dream function to all versions of Veeesta.(maybe even from MS   )

I doubt it, would be totally counterproductive in their plan to get people to get Vista Ultimate in the first place.

When she's right...She's right, LoL

Dreams have definite potential, and there is allot I would like to see incorporated into them... I suppose it is a bit of a let down to those that are pelted with the hype, go and spend the xtra money for the OS just to experience a movie loop...

I realize that Dreams will evolve into something that all of us will appreciate some day, but there are those that are more concerned about "Right Now"..

Won't stardock make alot more money if they make deskscapes work with all editions rather than just ultimate? like make a standalone version that doesn't require dreamscene?
Stardock isn't making any money from it (that I know of). Deskscapes is freeware. Deskscapes requires DreamScene and that only works on Ultimate. Trying to make it work on other versions would surely irritate Microsoft and violate the partnership agreement. Bad business.

Sure... they might. But then again... they would probably lose all of it (and then some) when Microsoft retaliates with a nice big juicy lawsuit. Honestly I'm not even sure if Microsoft can sue Stardock if they did something like that, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit.

Lawsuits aside though, pissing Microsoft off just ain't a good idea - especially if you're partners.

So in the end what happens? Dreamscene will remain a product of Windows Ultimate regardless of how many people whine. No one said it was fair - but that's life.

if you own ULTImate and want dreams, then yes you will download deskscapes and the dreams....stardock is hoping that those who are getting those free dreams might purchase their software to enhance their version of windows.hey maybe 1 out of 5 will buy, but that is a win for stardock who knows that if 1 person has a great experience with the software, they will probaly tell 3 others and they will tell more which gets more sales.....

I Believe that VLC can Also play movies as wallpaper.. Checkout VLC,, Don't get me wrong I love Vista Ultimate,, But Dreams should be an addon for all Vista users.
Austinknight

P.S. Wait for EarthEscape an HD 1920x1200 Dream.. Awsome should come out any day, I uploaded it 5 Day's Ago.

VLC actually doesn't make my CPU run high like Dreamscene does

I've used VLC and it's nice but let's be real, if it really solved th eproblem, we'd all be using animated wallpapers by now. It's been out for years.

It's like those arguments people used to use with DesktopX by saying that you could (in theory) do some of the same things with Active Desktop.  The proof, they say, is in the pudding.
