Super villains for Spiderman movies.

Super villains for Spiderman movies.

The second Spiderman movie starts this summer.  I am looking forward to seeing it.

In Spiderman 1, the villain was the Green Goblin.  In the second movie, Doctor Octopus gets to take on Spiderman.

I am assuming that there will be a third (possibly more) Spiderman movie.  I was wondering to myself which bad guy would be chosen for the third movie.  After the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, there isn't another bad guy who stands head-and-shoulders above the rest.  (The Hobgoblin might as well be the Green Goblin by the way.)

Here are my guesses for which villain will be next:

Most Likely:

The Lizard (already a Dr. Connor character)

Sandman (what is his origin anyway?)

Mysterio (possibly)

Semi-Likely:

The Vulture (my personal favorite)

The Beetle (another favorite)

Venom (too new.  Too farfetched. There is also that issue of explaining the "Secret Wars" costume too)

Electro (he'd be good.  They'd have to make his costume cooler though.)

Less Likely:

The Shocker

The Tarantula (I'd like to see that though)

Rhino (too stupid)

Kingpin (used in the Daredevil movie)

Did I leave anyone out?  I quit reading Spiderman in the late 1980s, so there's a big hole in my knowledge.

I think if they do the Hobgoblin in will be a minor side note.  My votes for the next one are Venom or The Lizard.  Does anyone else see MJ's fiance coming back as a bad guy?  Just a theory.

fiance coming back as a bad guy?

In the comic books, a moon rock turns John Jameson into a wolfman.

I doubt that they'll make a movie about that though, that's digging pretty deep into the Spiderman villian files.

Since the Batman movies, the villian in each superhero movie has been killed at the end

The Riddler in Batman Forever was put in a mental institution and he claimed he knew who Batman was, when questioned by Dr Chase Meridian he said I'm Batman and she told the keepers to keep him.

I thought Dr Freeze survived too but come to think of it - he didn't

Trina - Fair point about the Riddler. I think Jamie is ruling out quite a few superhero movie villains' survival other than that: Magneto, Mystique, Sabertooth, Bullseye, Kingpin...
Jamie does get some props for remembering Man-Wolf (damn, I had to look up the name). Man-Wolf did appear in a recent story-arc in Spider-Girl, however.
They might use Jack as "muscle" for a more "thinking" villain... EVERYONE KNOWS WE'RE IN SPOILER TERRITORY, RIGHT? But I question whether Harry is the "thinking" villain that we're looking for. Will he be the new GG, or even Hobby? Will he also have the Lizard for muscle? I guess we'll have to wait.
I have seen some speculation that you could make Jack a passable Venom character, using the origin for the symbiote that they used in the Spider-Man cartoon (found on the moon). They'd probably rather not do that, especially since they mentioned Eddie (Brock), the actual Venom host, in the first film.

Doctor Doom has got to be the villain for the upcoming FF movie. He was never much of a Spidey foe, anyway. Might as well say Firelord. (And, no, I don't want Cosmic Spidey for the third film.)

Hey, you know guys. If you think about it. It's very likely that the Lizard would be in the movie to aid Spidey as he often ended up doing in the cartoons. That would be a good time for a nice little of' team up on spidey. And do you think the wedding will be a factor in the third movie? Maybe spidey even gets a sidekick like Batman does...

I bet I'm wrong on all of my long shots, but it would be fun to see some of these.

My favorite character to see would have to be a toss up between Mysterio and Shocker still. Shocker could do all kinds of things in the movie, that he couldn't ever do before. And Mysterio could really do some wonders with the computer animation we have today. If it was going to be a truly awesome movie there would be a team up though... I'm tired of him fighting one villian in the time that he would usually fight the whole sinister six.

Capt. over and out!

Cap - While I appreciate your enthuasiasm for the movies and the genre, I think your long shots are just that. The wedding seems like it would be too soon (they only seemed to fast forward 1 1/2 years between the first two films). Spidey never had a real sidekick (not like Batman, anyway, b/c Black Cat is nothing like Robin... and that would screw up the MJ romantic plot). And the Lizard was an adversary for quite awhile before he became a recurring Man-Bat-like figure (IIRC, anyway; I know I saw an old 60's cartoon where he was thoroughly a villain).

I don't think they should modify the characters (the villains) so that they can "do all kinds of things... that [they] couldn't ever do before." I think it would detract from the characters enough that you might as well make up new ones (as that wouldn't upset die-hard fan-boys). Look at it this way: you might like it, a similar number of people would not, and the vast majority of movie-goers wouldn't know the difference. It's a wash. They'd probably also draw (slightly) more audience by having him fight a brand-new (well written) villain than a re-hashed unrecognizable old one.

Spidey never had a real sidekick

The Toad and Frogman fought over who would get to be Spidey's sidekick. Of course, no one asked him if he wanted one.

Had to look it up. Apparently they, along with the Spectacular Spider-Kid, form the Misfits instead of being Spidey's sidekicks...
Crazy.

The Hobgoblin will be the next villian, but it is not clear if they will move the storyline to Spiderman 4, or make it the headline villian. Jake Gylenhal said recently that he has not been approached for any roles in the spiderman movies, including the role of Venom.

According to Sam Rammi, It is still unclear where the direction of the movie will take, since the script has yet to be written. Best bets are Hobgoblin, or The Vulture. According to Spiderman fans, the Vultures character has already been introduced in one of hte movies, in a micro-sized part.
