in the dark
sometimes they’re covered in
Christmas lights and multi-colored
glitter
wrapped in cellophane
like cheap easter
baskets
in the yellow-red
clouds of
new mexico
(they tell me
taos is gay and
covered in
silver)
dirty deeds and money
monsters
smile and give
slideshows of their
vacations
and a thousand little
kiddies
get toys for tots
and empty bellies
and the promise of
going to Disneyland
soon there will be a
six-flags
in every tummy
and a satisfied
smile across every
death head
sitting in church
eating the body of christ
like ghouls
gorging on his blood
making claims of
the unclean and
blind
good is bad
bad is opportunity
and the rest of us are
fucked
beware of the
sparklies
