Solar empire?

Solar empire?

Confused about the title

I'm confused about the title of the game (forgive me if this is explained in the story or something). Where's Sol in the game and what's the solar empire? There's 3 factions and no mention of earth or Sol (so far).

yes solar system means any star system. because our sun doesn't have a name.

Um, since when? It does have a name: Sol. The fact that its not a good name -- in fact, its the word for "sun" in several languages -- doesn't negate that fact.

Q: Does our solar system have a name? Does our moon have a name? Does our sun have a name?
A: No. No. No. Sorry. They should. But they don't. At least not in English. There are, of course, many words used to refer to the Sun and the Moon in other languages. "Sol" and "Luna" are often thought of as proper names but they're really Latin, not English. So far there hasn't been a need for anything more. Maybe when we start living on other places besides the Earth....

And the very fact that they are thought of as proper names means that they will become the proper names -- English language (well, languages in general) are one of the few places where that comes anywhere close to true.

there are so many things wrong with this... let me rewrite it for you
A:Yes. Yes. Yes. Good. its not a proper name, but "THE solar system" is the actual name of our solar system, as it refers to the point of reference solar system, which pretty much everyone agrees for English: its the place that holds every single last english speaker. "THE sun" has the same general arguement (although the question of whether or not "sun" applies to other stars is ambiguous) as does "THE moon", the as an article, acts as an adjective. in essence this isnt any different than "THE George Bush". of course there are multiple George Bushes, but which one does pretty much EVERYONE know?

actually, the george bush one is confusing cause you could mean george bush or george w bush

If a solar system is any star system then what the heck is an extra-solar planet?

Solar

Sol is Latin for sun;

Sun

3. a self-luminous heavenly body; star.

I guess this suggests each star is its system's sun.

If a solar system is any star system then what the heck is an extra-solar planet?

Solar can be used in both meanings. Our sun is also named Sun. Like a guy named Guy.

Very true

If a solar system is any star system then what the heck is an extra-solar planet?

Following what Schem has already said, it is a planet in *a* solar system outside of *the* solar system.

It is a planet in a solar system outside the Solar system. The capital letters say it all. Except at the beggining of the sentence.
