Vista SP1 - What Would You Like to See?

With the recent talk of Vista SP1 and the release of it to a selective group of testers, I thought it would be a good time to ask our users what updates or upgrades you would like to see with the first Service Pack?

Some things I would like to see:
  • The ability to auto-hide the Sidebar
  • Reducing the System Restore space
  • Various performance fixes
  • Device driver improvements

Obviously I think we'd need better support for games. I am so glad I didn't buy Vista as I know that the games that I have don't work, even when they are DX10 compatible.

I think that this update should have better game compatibility.

Do you think the same?

The ability to auto-hide the Sidebar

Definitely this.I was really surprised to find I wasn't able to hide it.

I'd like to see the UAC remember previously allowed/frequently used programs and add them to a safe list.

1. A better save and open-Dialog. I never get used to that narrow complicated thingie, which makes me feel that I have to resize it everytime I want to open a file.

2. Better copy and paste abilities. Explorer currently crashes after more than 16'000 files have been transfered. That's particularly funny, when I try to move my WindowBlinds folder.

3. A two panel Explorer with tree-view for each side!!

4. General performance tweaks.

Really? Thanks for the tip! That one I will remember.

Kind of the opposite of Stardock's NeverTrust

The UAC "safe list" would be a BRILLIANT add on!

While I'm at it, I'd like a pony!

Orright, then, if we're adding the impossible to a Microsoft wishlist, I'll have miracle surgery that gets rid of arthritis.....oh, and while they're at it, some to iron out the wrinkles as well.

I've not experienced that happening....rearranging drives and folders recently and was able to copy/paste many more files than that without issue.

I'd like to see Cursor XP for Vista. Also, I'd like all the blinds to be compatible with VISTA.

1- to try to make so that the svchost.exe take less resources

example: 123750K for my computor

2- A faster closing of the computer (more than 5 mn of the times)

3- an easier compatibility for Vista 64bit (for the programmers) because the update has days are with collects… (… if it is possible)

This has been identified as a problem with the Vista Kernel, which seems to mainly express when also running Kaspersky Antivirus. Lucky me, I had problems with it even before I installed Kaspersky. Apparently MS is working on a fix for it (scheduled release time is actually SP1). See Kaspersky Forums

Faster start up of System Restore. It takes too long load.

Ditto the UAC creating a safe list based upon usage.

I want the "Delete", "Move To" and "Copy To" icons back in a toolbar in Windows Explorer and in the right-click menu. If there is a way to show them now in Vista, I haven't found them yet.

Easier access to modifying the Start menu items when one is using the Classic menu and running as an admin. There are about three different Start menu locations I have to check to consolidate items to my liking.

Rethink the folders that are considered "protected system files".

When "size" is checked as one of the column viewing options in a folder, actually show the file sizes instead of leaving that info blank.

Get rid of "new" Control Panel and just keep the Classic view.

Absolutely. If there's any one reason I chose not to use it, it's the fact that it's either always above or always below.

I'd like to see the UAC remember previously allowed/frequently used programs and add them to a safe list.

Also yes. I like UAC very much, except when it blocks programs I frequently use. It's just annoying.

Better late then never. I can take Celine ok. I dont dislike her. But when I tell people I like Kenny G, they frown at me (if they are polite).
