Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

kzin6

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

A salute to all those heroic t'kzintar who have made this empire a resounding success. Our conquests continue and the galaxy will never know peace!

True, we Kzinti have learned from the mistakes of the past. Our Empire now contains Heroes and warriors from many different species. All who are willing to prove themselves in battle, earn their full names, and win honor and glory for the Empire, are welcome to join us in our dominance of this galaxy!

True, it really is mainly a matter of viewpoint/perception.

Also, paladins are not limited to "lawful good" in most game systems. They can be an agent of any god, lawful or chaotic, good or evil. In the D&D campaign I'm in at the moment, my backup character (should my primary one die, or if I just get bored with it) is a paladin of Bane, the lawful-evil God of Tyranny....fun times!

We just tossed the alignment system out the window and only worried about such things when it became relevant. You got to play the character how you saw fit, under no restrictions of alignment. Character morals were the guideline the player set forth.

Tons of 'fun' when one party member wishes to kill all the orcs, even the ones who surrendered while another refuses to allow surrendered/unarmed beings to be murdered. Both could be construed under the same alignment, but both have different views.

In our past of playing, too many people decided to go the route of CN for more freedom to play their character as they saw fit. We saw something broken with the system/people playing it and removed said problem.

That's my preferred way to play, but only 1 other person in my group was up for it. They are mainly old-school D&D players. Also in the current D&D system (3.0/3.5) there are tons of spells, effects, etc, that are alignment dependent. So it's somewhat difficult to get away from with that system at least.

I dont think I posted this before...this shot is from the game I had with the most net income per turn.

I actually got it up to about 345k/turn, but I lost that screenshot somehow.

The BCs were rolling in! :D

I poked my head into the 3.0 ruleset and went back to 2nd ed. We actually ran a hybrid of the two. Stole the xp chart from 3.0 and overhauled STR to ditch the exceptional strength and added some damage reduction to CON. Too many people focused on high DEX to avoid their beatings, rather than high HP to outlast them, so we balanced that out. The straight fighter also got an overhaul, since nobody really touched them since they were 'bland'. They got ported back Feats to offset their 'blandness'.

The 3.0/3.5 version has a lot of problems, and it did take away what was perhaps the most attractive part of the older versions...simplicity. I generally like more complex systems (like RoleMaster!), but they didnt do a good job with it for D&D. 4.0, which will be out I think the end of this year, looks like it could be pretty decent. My friend runs the local gaming store here, and he lets me use his 40% discount.  :CONGRAT:

Well, I'll throw this out there since you all are talking about D&D. My friends always use hybrid rules. Each new set brings in some good ideas and cuts out some good ideas. We just agree on certain things beforehand and go at it. I don't think any game has ever been designed where some amount of modding isn't fun.

Except, possibly, Go.

Yeah, my group has implemented quite a few house-rules, mostly to address what we see as flaws in the system. It's been quite a while since I ran a campaign myself, but I have a bunch of different rules I'd like to try out when I next run something.

Digressing for a bit from your D&D topic but do any of you guys play Talisman? I guess you D&D guys would be more inclined to do so. Great game, just havent thought of it in a while.

Do go on....

Oh sure...thats a great game. The original version that came out a couple decades ago was really awesome, and much more extensive. With all the expansions, I think there were about 100 different characters, plus we created some ourselves. :) The newer versions are very much dumbed-down and neutered. You can still get the old version on ebay but it's usually at least a couple hundred dollars.

Looks like a gigantic, abundant all thing or at least something close? :)
Settings for that game were huge, all-abundant except for habitable planets which were common. My computer cant handle much more than that, yet. ;)

strangely I don't remember that post (#1004) being there yesterday- I am positive it went directly from your reply in 1003 to Loups in 1005.

In any case, that is a very impressive income, especially for only being on a Huge Map.

Not too shabby at all KP, for a huge - less than abundant everything  :)

I think Mumble holds the record with an income of over 1,500,000bc in his 900K+ game. My best was just over 1.4 million bc - but that was on a DA gig, abundant everything, with over 900 planets, 7 fully mined econ resources and an ongoing economic boom.

Interestingly, despite all the comments about economy in TA, my current (first) non-ZYW immense game has me at an income of approx 550,000bc - with only about 300 planets. I really don't see what all the shouting is about  ;)

Thanks Mag and Silver. :) If ever get off my butt and get some more RAM, perhaps I'll be able to come close to a million BC/turn.

That reminds me, this post is now over 1000 replies! Not bad considering it was only started in the middle of November 2007. :D

Ditto. It really seems that they tweaked something during that Gamma of theirs or something. Beta, the economy was pretty rough at times, with the exception when they introduced the Torians and the new tourism income. MAN was that insanely high income there until they re-balanced it to what we see now.

While I got your ears, has anybody found a fairly optimal tech tree for TA ZYW use? I'm currently playing around with the Iconian tree, but I can't breach 31.5k for lack of spamming econ buildings. That precursor library...on a precursor library tile though is really NICE!!!

I've been doing them on immense maps - best score so far is 97.5K and that was using the Yor tech tree. Best with the Iconian tree is 93K. The relatively cheap efficiency techs for the Yor make the difference, much easier to keep the economy going for the duration.

I'll have to try it out. ATM I'm just on Tiny maps. It was just very enticing to see my planet go from 47 research to 169 in one building buy on the first turn...but I guess I also got that with the Research Matrix...hrm

I have the original, plus the 4 expansion worlds as well, but we tend to play with the version 3 rule set but with some slight modification as to how to win. Don't hear of too many people playing Talisman anymore, which is a shame too, it is such an awesome game.

Well, I did get to squeak out a 32.9k game on Apr 15th with the Yor tech tree. Will have to keep on trucking that one for a bit now. Danke

One of my friends has all or most of the expansions: City, Dungeon, Timescape?, and some sort of dragon expansion. I wish the re-issued versions had been as good as the first.

Your punch list for what techs to get when got shook up. Almost always, I need to knock out Planetary Improvements first.
Yeah I've been tinkering with that a bit too. Sometime soon I'll post an updated research order. I think I average about in the mid-80,000s for my gigantic ZYWs now.

Hey, all...looks like I'm just gonna have to make a new character and sign him up in the empire. Support seems unwilling to fix this problem and get my character back. Argh.

So, I'll be back soon to get us some points on the boards.
