Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

I got into Vampire and Werewolf. I did have a disclaimer about 'most rpgs' in there...and sadly I picked a perhaps less-known rpg to hold up on the soap box with me.

Mage was the only one i played. i thought of it because the HP worked very differently in that game. it never got very high, and damage was often "practical", so the storyteller (DM) would say, "he cut your arm, and now you can't use it." but that'd still only mean 1 HP. out of 5-10 or so (even at high "levels").

I wasnt too interested in the online aspect of 4.0, because I prefer the engagement of sitting around a table with a bunch of people. The ability to create visual settings & situations is definitely alluring, but for actual interaction, face-to-face works better for me.
End of quote

oh same here. i'd love something i described that could be used on a single computer (perhaps with two monitors, one for players and one for the DM) as well, in fact over online play. but with VOP and webcams, there's no reason at this point IMO that WotC can't/shouldn't support gaming over the net.

The multitude of books for 3.0/3.5 was one of my primary complaints. Information was scattered across hundreds of books! Luckily for me, one of the guys in my gaming group manages the local gaming store here, and he has about 90% of the books, and an encylopediac knowledge of where to find the info you need.
End of quote

yeah that is frustrating. i have most of my books in PDF format. i'll make my players maintain a section in the game log where the describe any rules, feats, or equipment they're using from anywhere outside the core rule books (subject to my approval). there are some great auxilary rules. i also put my own house rules in there for reference. it seems to work pretty well. if players have an idea they want to see happen, i can give them advice or they can seek stuff out on their own, and it all stays in a handy reference rather than scattered throughout a dozen books.

I tend to like to play religious fanatics or chaotic wariors & rogues. The paladin-crusader is my favorite achetype.

I ended up as a druid or theif normally.  Rarely I attempted to be a powergamer since too many people who we played with were...to the point of nearly bending/breaking rules...or at least finding loopholes.  Thus I turned into comedy releif and trouble-maker.  There were quite too many sessions that the plotline was driven by the things I got us into.  I preferred characters that were more of a string-puller than the sword swinger/fireball caster.

I think the quickest death with a character I've had was playing a Kender (Dragonlance realmn).  Think a halfling with an uncontrolable case of kleptomania.  I always told the DM to roll my pick-pocket rolls for me whenever they deemed fit.  They also had an uncanny ability to taunt people into a frenzy.  My quickest death was when I failed a PP roll on another PC, who then picked me up by my topknot (ponytail) and I then flipped out and taunted him.  He went into a berzerker rage and proceeded to turn me into a puddle of soup on the street.  This was in the character meeting-stage of the campaign...I had just finished getting my character finished on paper.

Addressing the problem of scattered info for 3.0/3.5, you can find almost anything you need on the following 3 sites.

Crystal Keep: http://www.crystalkeep.com/d20/index.php

D&D wiki: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

D&D SRD: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

Also, like Dystopic mentioned you can download PDFs of pretty much any of the books using a torrent program.  I've already got the PDFs of the core 4E books, in addition to the actual books themselves.  :D

that wiki must be a godsend in the middle of a game, way better than stacks of rule books for quick referencing.

~squints at the book cover~ are those...whales?  What Star Trek movie was it that involved whales?

I take it Glove of Micheal Jackson Darth Vader is episode VII then.  From what I was hearing the final trilogy was a bit more borish since the major theme is now over and it's just recovery and reassembly...

back on D&D, though. i'm thinking about doing a highly varied campgain setting. some places might be more like traditional medieval/greyhawk, some regions more like eberron/FFVII, and in some respects the the setting would be like stargate. not sure though. i haven't done much in the way of planning. at this point i've only got one definite player, so "bringing the group together" will be a lot easier/more natural if i gain another 1 or 2 players along the way. i've never much cared for the "meet at the tavern" start.

and yes, moogles will be a playable race.

thus spoke loupdinour (emphasis added):

Lucas had originally planned 9 movies. he could only afford 3 at the time, so he did the middle 3 because they were the most interesting. loupdinour was speculating that the book you're reading is a novelization of the plot for episode VII, which would obviously enough follow Return of the Jedi (ep VI).

So...It appears that we can increase our avatar size from the original 50x50 to 100x100.  I see you've already done that, Loupdinour.  Makes it easier to see.  :)

Aye, I caught Seth, freeman and nelio had increased avatars.  I was quiet glad, since the original image I had would have been very harsh to try and see more of the picture at 50x50.

He should have stopped after making 3-6....the movies for 1-3 were terrible. :S

I havent done any planning for my campaign at all.  I didnt know I'd be running anything until Wednesday night when we met for the last day of the current campaign.  One of my friends was going to run the 4E campaign, but he was only doing it reluctantly.  I was the only person who had made a character for it, or even seen the rules, so I got "selected" to run it instead, hehe.  I'm the only one in the group who hasnt run anything yet, so I figured I would do it.  It's been years since I've run a game.  I did have some preliminary planning done for a campaign idea, but it was intended for the 3.5 system.  I may just run a module so our group can give 4E a test run.  If I do my campaign, the characters are going to be pushed together by a crisis situation, which should cause them to stick together.  They could always do something unexpected though... I like to leave my games relatively open in terms of direction.

Ever see the movie "Gamers"?

I was all hyped up to create a campaign that revoled around 1 large walled-in city with a opressive religious government at the helm  (aka V for Vendetta anyone?).  I got the city's map completed, I got some general ideas in place....then I collapsed in writers block.  Work got slow and I fell into a mental 'depression' that involved having no will to do anything.  I haven't picked up the files to get back to that campaign idea since.

My biggest goal in this campaign was to get the PCs to know and care for the NPC more since they'd be building relationships and friends/co-workers and such.  They would be part of a rebellion to overthrow this theocracy.  Most of our campaigns lately have been mroe of a whirlwind through a place and people mine as well have serial numbers on their heads (inn keeper 001, inn keeper 002).

Damn, no edit button.  The scene with them playing the game is SOO our one friend.  He never asks questions of orcs nor takes them prisoner...."It's an orc....kill it".

I like the part where the villain is making the "bad-guy soliliquy", and the archer of the group keeps shooting him in the throat before he's done.  XD   The GM keeps rewinding the game until the archer finally stops.

There's always that point in the game where realism and in-game drama are mutually exclusive.

The first SW was to 'kidded down'.  The second one...um, I can't remember much of that one lol.  The 3rd one had a good plot to it, but the actors picked for the roles I think may have ruined it.
