Military Ship Guard Mode

Pirates are picking off my trade vessels. I tried to get a corvette to escort those little trade vessels using the GUARD function but for some reason I can't get it to work. Does anyone know the mouse click sequence for enacting a guard command???

The guard in this game just places the ship to skip all turns until a hostile ship gets near. It doesnt move - so you cant escort. For now anyway.
