THQ has decided to bring Oblivion designer Ken Rolston in-house by purchasing Big Huge Games. Big Huge announced back in May 2007 that they had begun an ambitious RPG project after convincing the 25-year industry veteran to put off retirement. Details for the project are still incredibly scarce but just seeing the project was convincing enough to THQ that Big Huge Games was worth purchasing to obtain the intellectual property.
"I would say that the RPG was enough," said Sorensen. "But what definitely sealed the deal for us on both sides is the next one. It's more innovative, more unique, and we just felt like it requires both long-term thinking from both sides.
"It showed us that this is a studio that can generate some new concepts. Anything else coming out of Big Huge is icing on the cake."
Big Huge Games' upcoming project is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2009 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The company is also responsible for such titles as Rise of Nations, Age of Empires: The Asian Dynasties, Civilization II and is currently developing a title for the Nintendo Wii as well.
