Skinners, Artists, Coders, and Testers Needed: Community Suite

Skinners, Artists, Coders, and Testers Needed: Community Suite

Happy Birthday!!

https://forums.wincustomize.com/?aid=174881

After the success on the Troll Thumping Day Suite some members of the Mother Thumpers are coming together to create the "Happy Birthday Suit(e)".

I envision this suite centered around a DX gadget that counts down to your birthday. On your birthday the gadget will prompt you to download the most recent incarnation of the suite components so for your special day, your desktop will celebrate with you.

At this point we have some components assigned to artists but this is a collaborative project and welcome input and assistance from everyone. Please jump in and help out if you'd like.

alibear: Thanks for the notice as to what icons I have yet to finish ;p. I know I've still got a ways to go, but I plan on sticking it out. As for converting them to .ico or an IP package, thanks, but I can do that meself. I haven't converted them yet because I don't think it's necessary till I have the entire set done. Thanks, again, though!!

Haptork: Thanks!!

But would you like a copy of the app?

Most folks here use Icon Developer, Icon Packager (both by Stardock) or Axailis Icon Workshop.

Alibear, I still think the XION skin needs work to blend.  Go back and look through the comments in this thread to see what you can do.

No, I mean the app that I've written to go straight to the search page without opening an internet browser. And I told you some of the problems that I had with the Xion skin.

Are you done with it then?  Do you need someone to take it over and finish it off?

If we were to go along this route, it's probably work best to use the WebBrowser activeX control in DX to launch the search page.  That way the user would not have to have a unknown, untested, unsupported app running.

Ok then, and I can have a crack at the Maxthon skin. I'll email you the latest updates of the Xion skin now - the uploaded version isn't the latest...

alibear123 there is a saying Jack of all trades master of none I think you would be better of working on your Xion skin learn how to skin it correctly before moving on to your next project.

If you have problems post them here and chances are that someone will help you over come them.

It is up to you give up and move on if you want.

On the cowntdown widget were you thinking along the lines of a cake eruption so to speak?

Thanks theAVMAN!  Anyone who wants to take a crack at teh Xion skin or use the images from teh clocks . . they are there.  Many thanks to alibear123 for taking this from V1 to V3.x.  Great work getting it this far.

I'm not an artist so I'll trust you on that.  I really like the style of RomanDA's Holiday Countdown widget.  That could be a loose guide.

In regards to the clock widget... very interesting development. I had no idea what Winky sounded like until now ;)
Nice work on that, btw :)

If need be, you could throw in some cake shrapnel that I could give some random velocity vectors.

Milksama, what do you think of on the birthday day launching a browser control to search for "birthday suit(e)" or do you have something cooler/better?  Originally I thought it would be good to download and run all the components . .but that might be a bit much.  A MyColors-like option to select your components might be fairly intuitive also.

I think having something like that, where it opens a dialog and gives you some options about what to download might be interesting. I could have it initiate a search and parse out the results to include direct links to each of the themes.

Having it download them automatically would definitely be doable I think, but might become more complicated if there is a download limiter in effect because the user is not a current subscriber/customer. I was thinking of something like what ThemeManager would do though, where there could be multiple components for a suite not all downloaded, then you could pick and choose what you wanted to download and apply.

I tried to make the writing look like icing. I think it turned out alright.

Maybe something along these lines (Starting point maybe)
I can work with that.   It's awesome :)

Notes:
  • platform may need to be shorter/thinner/smaller . . not sure
  • winky may need to be closer
  • paintbrush may need to be replaced with something  . . birthday-y
  • "Happy Birthday: text needs to be supported by  . . . something
  • needs a config button somewhere
  • needs a mini-mode (Maybe a present?  Maybe not)
  • min/max button (not sure about this based on next paragraph)
Config panel needs
  • date-time to countdown to
  • message to be displayed
Milksama . . is it possible to build a gadget so that it could be given away?  Let's say I know when Bichur's birthday is.  I want to add it to the widget and then give it to him.  He runs it and it sits in his systemtray or desktop counting away until it's go time.  On the day of (or the start of week of) it goes from minimode to maximode; always-on-top.  At X time on go-day it does it's magic and the user can pick what to skin.

Just some thoughts.

What about getting rid of the days, hrs, min, sec. sections and just using d,h,m,s and putting them on the same section with their respective numbers.

Maybe moving the cake to the right a bit and putting Winky to the left of the cake and instead of getting rid of the paintbrush just change its color and use a matching color to write Happy Birthday across the front side of the cake so it looks like Winky just "painted" (with frosting of course) it on the cake. Then maybe a present with some balloons hovering over it to the right of the cake which you could utilize as your config and min/max buttons.

And for the message to be displayed maybe a streamer/banner that rolls out attached to the front bottom of the platform itself.

And don't get me wrong not trying to put the work down at all AV. Just some ideas to accomplish the things Zubaz suggested.
