Gal Civ 1.21 and Altarian Prophecy 1.51

Gal Civ 1.21 and Altarian Prophecy 1.51

http://www.galciv.com/index.asp?action=full&NewsID=497

The version history for Gal Civ 1.21 probably doesn't include everything.  Rather than sorting through and trying to figure out what was fixed in Altarian Prophecy first, I decided that it would be better to get it up there on the server for you guys. :)

I don't think that stability will be an issue with these betas, but since a lot has changed, I wanted to make sure that everything works on different systems before making it public.

The changes to the save games were made to make cheating harder.  We are still presently allowing modded games to be submitted to the metaverse, but we may disallow it or add more caps in the future.

Please let me know what you think about the difficulty of the campaign missions at various levels of difficulty.  The feedback will be most useful if you aren't using mods.  We also didn't get a lot of feedback on the custom maps and scenarios that aren't associated with the campaign.

It probably doesn't make a lot of difference, but if you need to post a bug report, please report whether your using Gal Civ or Altarian Prophecy.

Depending on what kinds of mods you were using, some of the mods would have been read in.  SBMods are last, so if you were using any other kind of mod, it wouldn't load them.

AP v1.51 the auto survey still seems to be broken.

With music turned off and sound turned off there is still sound in the diplomacy screens and I think also during colonization. When I have sound turned off I would like it to be off.

The quirk appears to be this: when your sensor range increases, newly discovered anomalies aren't picked up by the autosurvey.

Existing ones, and ones newly found the turn after your sensor range increase are. Only ones suddenly found between turns by the sensor increase itself are lost in the aether. If this is the case, save and reload should serve as a workaround.

I have also noticed that discovered anomalies are still disappearing when you do a reload.

The sound is part of the binks.  I checked and there is an API to keep it from playing the sound, but it should probably have its own option.

Check to see if the anomalies return a few turns after the reload. If so, it could be related to the issue where your waypoints don't show up for a few turns after a reload. They're still there - they just don't show up. Also, it would be interesting to save the game a turn before your constructor reaches an anomaly, then reload it and see if the constructor finds the anomaly even though it is invisible.

I have not seen the anomolies return even after a reload.

Auto survey still doesn't work. I like auto survey and it is very useful. It would be nice to have that feature working again.

Carielf, do you have an idea when some of these bugs may be fixed?

bug on AP v1.51

One recent bug report in another thread is about trade routes that for some reason stop working and indicate N/A.

As far as I can tell these never restart. I usually delete them and start them over again. Usually this fixes that traderoute. But, sometimes the traderoute goes N/A again.

This happened to me last game.

Very annoying.

Sorry that I didn't respond earlier.  I've been dealing with a lot of support for Political Machine and trying to get GalCiv 2 started at the same time, so I've had a lot on my plate.

I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to work on an update for GalCiv 1.21/AP yet, but I just discovered due to someone else's post that I'm going to have to re-encode the majority of the drath ships, so there is going to have to be one.

I wanted to mention I submitted a game or two to the Metaverse and they did not make it recently. None of them had Mods installed. Kind of surprised me when I did not get a notice that it worked.

My next game has a Mod installed I will let you know how it went. Thanks. :)

Good luck CariElf with your programming efforts you are one of the best IMHO. I been playing games since about 1980! Pol Machine rocks!!

Thanks for the update Carielf. I know that you are busy but an update to get some of these bugs fixed would be great.

There is a problem with the Drath? I never noticed it.

The AP scenario "Attrition" plays fine but it keeps creating anomalous scores of zero in the submission screen. I played maso/with mods, maso/without mods, and normal/without mods with same scoring problem.

So far I've completed 6 other scenarios (see my record)and they have all submitted with appropriate metaverse scores. So it would seem that the problem lies with the "Attrition" scenario.

Yeah...the wrong version must be up there. Darnit.

DesertFox, I'll see if I can find your scores in the database. Access isn't working for me at the moment so I'm going to have to futz with it. Did you upgrade to Drengin/TotalGaming.net since the last time you submitted? If so, you need to re-register with your new serial and follow the link from the metaverse page to convert your scores.

I have been a member of Drengin.net as it turned into TotalGaming.net. I joined a while ago not sure when exactly.

I was thinking this could have been the problem. Recently I had changed all my data including my address. I contacted someone about it, and my account was messed up using 2 different addresses. It is now set properly if this was the reason the last few games did not submit maybe my next game will. Thanks. :D

OK, well your profile is still showing your GC1 serial number so I'm guessing that the games are submitting under the Drengin.net one.

You need to go here and register your Drengin.net serial, and then follow the instructions for converting your scores:

I was playing a came of Gal Civ 1.21 I also have Atarian but in a different folder.

1. The anomalies are disappearing when I open a game. I have two files to show this example that I can send.

2. The Starbase modules are not working - what happened?

I will I could back out the last patch because that seems to have caused the bugs.

The install is a pain. I duidn't have version 1.2. When I purchased the Altarian Prophecy, it said I needed version 1.2 of the original but I couldn't find out what version I did have. There wasn't a link on the purchase screen to get version 1.2. Basically, I was on my own. After playing with it for over two hours, I finally found someplace where I could download version 1.2. Come on...make it easier for us. It's not that hard. You should show the version number you are currently running somewhere on the screen and, if you say we need a specific version on an internet page, put a link there so we can find the thing.

The version number for GalCiv is found in game in the options screen at the very top of the page.

And the 1.20 patch is found on the galciv.com page under the button "downloads" down the left side of the page.

Seems pretty simple to me. ;)

I just got GalCiv, and updated to 1.21, and have 2 simple questions.

First is, when it autosaves (every 12 turns), it hangs for about 2-3 minutes before continuing.

Beyond that, I can't figure out how to change the resolution. Any ideas?

I have found a problem with the files CoreModules.SBMODULES and bonusmodules.sbmodule in Galciv 1.21: it looks like that, at a time, there were removed from the list of files used by Galciv (I don't remember having removed manually these files but I may be wrong). So I have no longer them in my data directory. Hopefully, I have made a backup of the 1.20 version. So I am able to recover the files.

But it is very strange.
