Key command for putting population on colony ship? If not, this needs to be fixed!

Except for doing mass slaughter, the slider on the population is nearly useless. Is there a key command to put X amount of colonists on a colony ship? I fire off 100M on each and clicking hundreds of times (no, if you haven't played the game yet, am I kidding) to get the colonist boarding down to 100M for a colony ship. It's that or I don't have my most productive planets making them ... which is very tempting given how annoying this is.

And why the game designers and beta testers didn't think this was a pain is beyond me. :p

perhaps they could add the number keys to fill colony ships and transports to a percent 1=10%,2=20%, etc. I'd like to see it.. but I'm anal about things and really have to fight to just send 121 million people somewhere instead of wasting time tweaking it to exactly 100 million. It's an annoying habit, but one I can't seem to break.. lol

The wheel in the middle of my mouse allows me to adjust the population for troop ships and colony ships much faster than clicking. Just hold the cursor over the bar and off you go.

I am referring to moving the cursor over the bar and holding down the button. If you move it to the left to try to get the smallest amount possible, it can be in the hundreds which is too much for new planets. This is simply bad game design. I like the game though. Just not this feature of it and it should be fixed.

Forgive the n00bnewss ;)

The amount of people on a starting colony affects morale? The colony ship you start with has 100 mil. Is this a good ballpark for colony ships? I've been putting 500-800 million on, and firing them off. Would this explain why morale is always so low on new planets? Can anyone elaborate why?

Yes, you've got to keep your colony ship populations small or you have instant morale problems on the planet. The better the planet class, the more you can send ... but 100M works with all and I just use that number to make it a bit easier and quicker to do.

Wish I'd know that earlier! Why does it default to half the population if that's not the 'suggested' size?

Oh well, let's try this again, see if I can't survive a bit longer!

Scott if you click and drag on the slider you can slide it to pretty small increments I usually get to within 2 or 3 of the number I want, thereby reducing the number of clicks on the arrow to round it off (yes I'm anal about rounding it off...don't really have a good reason why...)
