Surrendering Civs and Conquered Trade Goods

i had a civ surrender to me for the first time the other day ( it was strange considering it was the Torians and i was the #1 'Cruelest Civ'). it seemed odd that you don't get any technology from such an act as i knew that they had techs i didn't have at the time. also, they didn't come with ANY ships, which could've just resulted from them not having any to begin with...i'm not sure. so anyway, it would be nice if you could get at least 1 tech from the surrender, if not all the ones they have.

i also noticed that conquering a civ that has "trade good monopolies" does not transfer the monopoly to your civ ( it was a minor civ: 2 planets, 2 monopolies, i conquered both ). this was particularly annoying since the trade goods were one of the major reasons i bothered to invade them.

cheers

I could see techs and stuff being transferred in a surrender, but if you conquer them outright you shouldn't get most of them. The defenders would probably destroy the data, self destruct the ships, etc., just to spite you.

Ships don't tranfer, even if they did have some. In my last game I managed to trap the Yor with only 2 planets worth colonizing, yet somehow they managed to get starbases on two nearby resources quicker than me. I managed to buy 1 of them from them (for a ton of tech...but they were Warm to me, and puny, and the resource was a military one which I needed to fend of the more successful AIs), but they wouldn't sell the other, no matter what I offered (even planets...it was an Econ resource, and I was running out of money due to my large fleet).

I thought I might have to go to war with them just to get it, and had parked a Constructor with a small fleet nearby in preparation for that. Instead, the Yor surrendered to the Arceans (who strangely were on the other side of the map and completely out of range of them) at which point the starbase vanished and I could move right in.

Still not sure why the Yor surrendered to a power that couldn't even reach them...not a single Arc ship got anywhere near Yor space (I know, because I completely surrounded Your space).

i agree that you shouldn't necessarily get all their techs if you conquer someone. however, i felt it was rather weird that i didn't get the trade goods, considering they were listed under the planetary improvements on the conquered planets. i guess i should try "canceling" them and rebuilding them.

Valamir, the AI won't surrender to who is beating on them, they'll surrender to whoever has the best chance of beating on whoever they want to beat on (not sure, it may always choose the #2 player on the assumption that they have the best ability to beat on #1, or it could be whoever isn't getting along with their enemy).

If techs, ships, and trade monopolies were transferred on surrender, it would benefit the AI more than the human.

Not that this is a bad thing, necessarily, just something to consider.

Actually Pop Up, NO ONE was beating on the Yor...they were in a corner completely surrounded by me (who they had close relations with). Other races kept declaring war on them, so I didn't ally with them because I didn't want to be dragged in. At the end, every other race had declared war on the Yor at the same time...but NONE of them were attacking, because no one was in range. The Arceans were the last race to throw there hat into the "we hate the Yor" ring. Just a handful of turns later the Yor surrendered to them. I was the only race the Yor WEREN'T at war with, strangely.
