Sick to Death of SDC

OK. I finally figured out how to update to 1.02 without downloading the entire
80+ MB file. I got 90% of the way through the 4MB 1.02 update download
and got the following error message (which I cannot get around):

Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base\galciv.ex_
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

Can anyone please tell me how I can get 1.02????

Thanks,

I had the same problem. Seems like the custom datacomm protocol SD uses don't have much in the way of working error correction - instead, the error is detected when the installer tries to unpack the downloaded archive file.

It then deletes the offending file and pops up the warning which you saw.

If you retry the installation, the download manager only reloads the now missing file, and if you are lucky, the newly downloaded file won't be corrupt.

Of course, the larger the file, the bigger the odds that it will be corrupted, and the longer it takes to download it again... *sigh* - Murphy in a nutshell.

Personally, I spent about 8 hours on SDC trying to get it to work ... I finally managed to get a fairly uncorrupted download after I removed my D-Link router and connected directly (I have noticed a slightly higher packet loss (<1%) when going through the D-Link compared to using a direct connection) - you might try the same if you have something between you and the 'net.

Good luck - you are going to need it! :-(

If you used the "update" button in the upper right section of the software screen, try again but use the "update" button in the lower left corner of the same screen. (after selecting GalCiv in the list of updates)

I had exactly the same problem and the other button worked for me.

Haven't a clue why. ;)

Thanks Elrikk. That did the trick (lower left hand button)
Now if only 1.02 wasn't so buggy (we can only hope they get this game straightened soon)

:) Come on they are updating the game faster than I can finish my games. They have the fatest reactions to customer demands I have ever seen and the game (for me) is already quite bugfree.

With the small updates they are doing a very widespread "betatest" but they as fast as they are doing right now I think it is a very good method to get there game flawless in recordtime.

(SDC is a mistery to me, sometimes it works no problem at all, sometimes I have to register my serial again and worst is when I am totally unable to get another screen then "stardock home" )
