Aussie Empire?

Aussie Empire?

Before the release of GalCiv there was a thread on the forum regarding the availability of the game in Australia. After a number of people responded someone suggested that we make an empire of Australian players once the game proper was released.

Were people still interested in doing this? (I did a quick check to make sure someone hadn't already created an aussie empire but could not find any)

My current kickoff is to set spending to 100/0/0 at 100%, taxes to 50% and crank out a scout then colony ships non-stop for about 3 years. I put 150-200M in each ship coming out of Sol. When they colonise a world, I set *that* world to making a scout, then colony ships with 50-60M in them. When *those* ships colonise a world, I set them on making constructors and try to tag as many resources as possible. Once I'm done colonising and have a few constructors spare, I chuck spending over to 0/50/50 and (try to) get gravity accelerators ASAP. Build some infrastructure, and pop freighters out as needed. Due to my long run on 100/0/0, I do miss out on early trade goods (I hardly ever get Tri-Strontium, and usually miss out on frictionless clothing), but I can live with that :)

I try to stay neutral until I know who my strongest neighbour is, then match their morality and dump freighters on their doorstep. It's worked so far :)

I've signed up, but I still haven't submitted any scores yet... soon ;)

I think ANZAC is a great idea, though I don't think there'd be anyone alive today who would recognise that symbol :)

I reckon Southern Cross looks like the one to go with unless there’s a kiwi revolt (not sure if it has any significance for them)

btw nice strats guys

Cataleptic's resembles my own a bit. Chris's looks very interesting too, I'll definatly be trying that one out.

Cataleptic... You don't feel like joining ur Homelands Empire do you?? I happened to notice that ur presently unaffiliated with any body bearing the name 'Empire'... do U know something we don't? ;)

Anzac Empire sounds like a good plan... I'm thinking if we worked on it strategically enough we could shoot up the scoreboard in one go. Have every able bodied Empire Citizen get to the point of completing a game, switch to the Anzac Empire and have everyone submit there game.... Bang!

Slitherin: Empire at Number 1 ?! I just don't think we are disciplined enough to play for those high scores. Like you I have other things to do...how do people get the time to play several gigantic maps already? I can't believe you were able to find an ANZAC flag!
I re-read my strategy tips and they don't tell the whole story. I do a lot of slider adjusting the whole game. At the start (unlike Cataleptic) I go to 100% spending for as long as I can. I also purchase the trade goods at the longest rental as my economy has always been able to afford it over time. The most important trade goods for me are, in order: Diplomatic Translators (Diplomacy); Gravity Accelerators (Contolled Gravity); Tr-Strontium Steel (Nano Metal Composition); and Aphrodisiac if I can get it. Wonders: Galactic Stock Exchange and Tir-Quan Training.

Cataleptic: Thanks for the tips. I can't stand to get too far behind in tech, especially on smaller maps because I trade early. However, I just started a gigantic map and my strategies have had to change. I couldn't find any civ to trade with for years.

Kiwi Greg and 4D: congrats on making 25! You Kiwis have some heavy hitters. That's a good idea with ANZACs, although I suddenly thought there is probably a law against using the name for anything other than its proper purpose. The Southern Cross Empire anyone? :D

"The Southern Cross Empire anyone?"

Why not stay at least a little astronomical - Crux Australis?

The G.R.O.S.S. guide (i prefer that term to leader) would like to extend the Aussi-empire a hearty handshake of friendship. The same handshake extended to us by your ambassador Christopher Packer.

I liked DownUnderOnTop, but have no probs with ANZAC or SouthernCross or even the Crux thingie.
(Shoud the motto be "Other peoples' wars fought real cheap"?)

Could I get a link to the ANZAC flag please, I won't be posting many metaverse scoresd for the next week or so (setting up new shop in Darwin).

Another thing is anyone willing and able to make up a web page for our favourite type of strategies, and advice for players like me that are fairly crap, but want to improve

#67 Love the motto! Anyone got something more funny, but true?

The question is who is going to take the leap and found this ANZAC empire?? (or whateva it gets named) Perhaps both Warty and K-Greg should both be Senators and we could go from there??

Itz a pity that you can't form a 'coalition' type Empire :) MMP anyone? then we could still belong to our Homeland Empires while strategically acting together under the ANZAC heading.

I have no problem with the ANZAC idea.

However, I had assumed that we would have the usual Aussie/Kiwi rivalry and compete against each other (I am damn sure I dont have the time to play enough to get into top honours contention!!)

Regarding the ANZAC empire, I'm just wondering which is the best way to get everyone together.

By this I mean do we (a) modify one of the current empires while members of the other join up or (b) simply create a new empire and we all move over?

Also, should the symbol be one from Slitherin's link?...and if so do we want the circle or square variant?

if you want a place to communicate away from this board you might want to try ezboard (www.ezboard.com)- it's free to set up and for not much you can be ad free :)

Just added my #41 Metaverse position to the Aussie Empire. I always wondered why nobody joined my "Galaxy Down Under Empire" - a little obscure for you? Anyway, lots of games, and a good increasing scoreline for you.

Hmm there is always using the Anzac theme, or maybe we could do the colonies of the Commonwealth, to get a bigger player base.

Just chiming in on stuff I think. I would do a web page, but don't know any thing about them, and don't have the time to learn at the moment.

My starting Strat. Buy your first scout outright, and then put everything in to military and start cranking out colonyships with 110M pop on them.

Grab everything worth grabbing. Then make a beeling to Universal translators and then to impuse drive. After this bit I consider how I am going to try and win the game. I prefer cultural victories, but managed, an 3 way alliance victory against the pure good guys.

Haven't even managed to play all the way up the tech tree yet!

Hope to read more soon :) :)

Thanks Kiwi Greg...I'll try ezboard later.
On the Kiwi board I put up about joining the empires:
"Now, my maths is not a strong point, but I *calculate* that if Aussie and Galactic Kiwis and Cataleptic had an anshluss (is that the correct spelling?) the resulting Empire would be 7th: 16,828 + 6,644 + 17,790 = (um) 41,262".
I note that but for Cataleptic being *coy* the Kiwis would be ahead of Aussie!!
I like the Aussie/Kiwi rivalry, but nonetheless, if a new coalition is formed I'd join. I'd vote for Warty and Kiwi Greg to be head honchos, and vote for the Southern Cross flag (its always been a favourite of mine).
And I agree about the time thing. Just about to finish a gigantic map and I couldn't do another one (too long and too boring).

Oh, and by-the-way, hi there to: Warty, Slitherin, Jaime, Jeatalong, Sandabar, Instigation and Kalon. Not to mention Kiwi Greg, Togakure, 4D and Cataleptic.

Kalon: good scores; and I didn't notice the Galaxy Down Under Empire!

When I meant the colonies of the Commonwealth, I also meant trying to get the Canucks on board as well as any other Commonwealth countries. Is India still part of the Commonwealth?

But I don't think we will be able to do that, since there own score is pretty imppressive.

Well... I'm open to join an ANZAC Empire... I think it would be easiest to just have Warty and Kiwi Greg start the Empire, post on this and the Kiwi Thread, then we can all switch over... Then whoeva REALLY wants to be part of an Aussie or Kiwi Only Empire can stay that way... By themselves ;) Go the Southern Alliance!!

Warty

In order to make the "ANZAC Empire" just edit your empire to change its name and logo (click on "MyEmpire" and use the edit button).

That will be a lot easier then starting a new empire as you have more players anyhow. At that point Kiwi will disband and make a spot for some other deserving empire on the front page :)

Aussie Empire has been changed over to the Anzac Empire.

Initial logo is the southern cross, hope that is ok.
If anyone wants to make a better quality logo feel free to do so.

Should be fun :)

Long Live the ANZAC Empire.... :)

It sounds kind of like an early Civ Culture... the AZTECS, MAYANS, and ANZACS.

Let's hope we do better than they did :)

Warty can you make it all caps for "ANZAC" or wont it let you??
