Encouraging AI

What I find so encouraging about this game is that when I watch Brad's AAR's he's playing against intelligent opponents most of the time. Looking at the reports, he has a hard time every game and he's not even playing on the hardest difficulty!

Now for crying out loud, he's the designer of the game and has troubles with his own AI! To me it looks like this will finally be a game with an AI that is worth the I in its name.

Except for chessgames like Fritz or Chessmaster I've hardly come across and AI (that doesn't cheat)worth mentioning and I'm really looking forward to the challenge of the GalCiv AI, since this AI isn't even cheating on the highest difficulty levels! :D

It does cheat at the highest levels.... sort of.
It gets a boost to it's economy, but it otherwise plays by the same rules.

I still think that's cheating, Brad doesn't.

I think it's at "Intelligent" that it plays by all the same rules as you do, without any bonuses, so I'm content to play at that if I want a "fair" match-up. ;)

Ah ok, I thought it wouldn't even get a single boost at the highest difficulty levels.

Still Brad had some big troubles even defeating the AI on intelligent so like you I think that the intelligent level will be quite a challenge for a long, long time. And even then the AI gets improved by the metaverse topplayers tactics.

Only at the highest level does the AI get any bonuses. At lower levels, the AI is actually penalized to make up for the fact that it can do things that a human player doesn't have the time and/or inclination to do.

although i havent played the full version, for a new player they will unless they are stratigical genuises start off at the lowest levels or get whooped big time, it took me 3 games before i moved up even to the medium levels hehe and that was 3 long games
