NOTICE: 1.03 incompatible w/1.02 saves

Players should be aware that upgrading to v. 1.03 of GalCiv will produce anomalies in any previous version's saved games.

Should you intend to post a saved game currently in progress to the Metaverse, it is advisable to complete it first, before upgrading.

This is noted in Brad's thread "1.03: Notice on saved games", but I can now confirm it.

(Also, no offense or dup-posting intended; it is just that thread itself spun off into a discussion of SDC which is irrelevant to this point, so I wanted to re-highlight it for those individuals interested in this aspect of 1.03's affects. Please keep this thread on-topic for the benefit of newar or younger players Thanks!)

Oops!

EDIT: "...newer or younger players [period]".

(Board needs an edit function.)

Vridian,

It does work (i.e., you will be able to load and play your saved games), but certain calculations will be off. For example, in my game (gigantic/painful, started under 1.01), my espionage costs differed radically from what ZaH calculated should be the correct values. A 2nd save (of a Medium map) I had to scrap, because it set all production of a certain social improvement to "398 turns to completion", no matter what the planetary production.

But I'm happy to hear that your game does not exhibit the problem. Let's hope mine was an isolated case!

In a worst case scenario your 80-100% morale planets will decrease to 1-20% morale and loose many worlds due to being under a Federation goverment like I was. I had to uninstall of course and revert back to 1.02. This is the best game I have had to date on sub-normal. A friend of mine recently bought the game and played it for a while using only the 1.02 version. He could not get on SDC to update. Later once SDC was back online he updated. He too experienced some rather bizzare glitches and reinstalled like I did. LOL

Well, this may be an anomaly (no pun intended), but I had a crashing bug that tech support said may be due to updating to 1.03 mid-game. For some reason, the variable for my government party got corrupted and it would cause a crash when the senate went to vote. Since I don't use any mods, she said that it may be due to the version change. Though I'm not convinced that's the reason (since she also said that there was not a file format change), I thought I'd mention it.
