Merry christmas sweetie

i am not the man you bring home
to mother
if she’s any kind of woman she’ll
know at first sight
she’ll know I’m not a dependable man
closer to incarceration than any where
else

if she can get you to the side she’ll
whisper “turn back, before it’s too late.”
before I show you things and teach you
things that only happen at night--in the dark

she knows I will
not that latex shit with rubber dildos
or wannabe pretend hair whips
I’m an all the time ride
only stopping to puke now and then

she knows there will be phone calls
at 3 in the morning and it’ll never be
a good thing
good things don’t happen without the
light of day

no, your mother will not be pleased
possibly polite, but she’ll look me
in the eyes only once and reach for her
beaded rosary contemplating the mysteries
and having none for the devil eating
at her table

she will fear for your sanity and wonder at
the choices you make
but in the end she will wash
the sweaty palms and light endless candles burning
petitions on your behalf
hoping you will survive the oncoming madness

merry Christmas sweetie
