Build up disgruntles me, yet i can do nothing...

I've played many games where I build up forces or bases and one of the lackies get their panties in a twist and threaten me.

My question is, why can't the player do the same. There has been many a time where I wanted to tell the comp to "slow it's roll and gEt," but can't without going to war 'requesting" they give me the item(s).

Surely this can be worked on. I once had the UP item come up about sector control equals rights to anomalies. Well the vote won and since I had 90% of the galaxy with me in control- the other races' Survey ships just stalled. One of them stayed in my home sector until I blew it away. Now, with the option of "diplomatic threatening" enhanced from it's current form (demanding things.) I could have said "move your sh*t our hang on to my beams, foo'!" And more than likely, the cop would have realized it would be a good thing to auto-retreat it's surveyor.

Just a thought.

You can demand stuff, if you sufficiently overpower them.

I don't always like demanding. Like when I'm in a war with someone, I don't want to go to my friends and say "give me tech x, y, and z and ships 1 and 2." It would be nice if you could say "look i'm getting beaten up by the Yor, can you spare a ship? or some tech? or some money? ANYTHING?"

I guess it depends on the game, some games I have 300+ military power way in the begining just from defensive ships, mighty bizzare if you ask me. And other games I have no military yet all the idiots give me tribute anyways.

Likewise when my friends are at war, I'd like to say "Here are some ships and some money, go blast those bloddy Yor!" instead of "Here is a gift". I'd like them to know why I gave it... it should mean more diplomatically, IMHO. :)
