Captain Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

Pontius -I feel for you! I had sinking money into my car... I don't know if you've paid for washing machine yet, but you can get a new washing machine for less than 400... Of course, I'm cheeaappp.... so I always buy wants on sale at Home Depot.

Just finished my first gigantic... thankfully I got the Draginol event. Spend money like crazy, actually had such a huge military that I got the last planet of the Torians, Altarians, Drending, Alexians, and Fundamentals in trade. Had to take the last Arcean planet... I didn't think the majors were supposed to give up in a trade.

Anyway, I don't think I have the stomach for gigantic -- it takes so long.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Cypher

The majors will indeed give up in a trade. But the catch is on all but the beta versions, the game was subject to crashes if you accepted it.

The Meta works in strange ways. GROSS takes the top spot by a hair! :CONGRAT:

Boss, that motto of ours needs a workout. How about trying "Ye treasure be ours!"

Pontius, you need to prioritise. Think guns or butter. Hence, washing machine or Dell? Easy.

Granted, the hard part is formulating a sensible argument for Mrs Pilot. That's really hard. Can you make the PC indispensible to Mrs P? Like, regularly send photos and emails to her parents or something? Then pretend the PC has broken down. When that happens, start to mope about the house. Interrupt her TV, start reading her Marie Claires. Eat more and leave more dirty dishes about. (If you don't yet have a dishwasher this might not be a good idea). Pretend you're grumpy. Eventually, she will have had enough of you and happily suggest you buy a new Dell. It works every time for me and has done since I was a nipper. Any other marital advice I can provide just ask.

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAAHHAHA!!!!!! PC indispensible and Mrs P. are like oil and water. If this house burned down she'd say "well now, at least it wasn't a total loss, it took the puter with it."

Eat more and leave more dirty dishes about

Been there done that. All that leaves is me with dishes to do.

Pretend you're grumpy

Arrgh why pretend? I already am grumpy. Grrrrrrrr.

I just played and won my first crippiling .. on a large map and went the full length of the game trying to dredge out as many points as i could and only got about 14k for 3 days work :( which is only about an extra 1-3k on average more than i was getting on a normal level playing on the same size map :( not very much difference at all, except that the game was definatly harder to get the upper hand. One intresting point in the game was when i was down to one AI. This turn too so long i thought that the game had crashed. Every Sector of the map ended up instantly with about 12 AI ships. It was after i'd been blamed for an assasination of their current ruler. After about 8-12 turn I had the map all cleaned up again. I then got into a peace treaty with them and was able to get 2500bc for 50 months for offering the peace treaty. I really thought i was gone when I saw all those ships. (mainly Corvet)
. Strange thing was that neither their or my military ranking changed when they miracalously got all these new ships

Pulling your file your last game came across as challenging. Are you sure you didn't forget to move one of the aliens up?

I have never understood a game where the objective is to spend as much as possible on the implements (clubs, shoes etc) then use them as few times as possible! Doesn't seem cost effective to me. ;)

Ahh, golf...very relaxing if you don't stop to think about that blasted little ball scurrying all over the damn course >:(

Congrats Cap'n! :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:

(and extra congrats for showing GROSSers have a life outside GalCiv :SURPRISED:

Blue - there is now a very 'flat' gradient in scoring between difficulty levels with the exception of maso, which is cranked right up. I too have been experimenting and I get the feeling if I can't win at maso I should try and select the 'sweet spot' where effort=score most consistently. I feel that might be at painful at the moment. Having just won a series of painful and crippling games I must say I didn't feel particularly rewarded for going up to crippling. I would also conclude map size may also count for MUCH more than difficulty level, ie on normal, going from small to medium or large is worth more that staying on small and going from normal to tough, if that makes sense. Keep trying, pal! :)

Can I just say, after a few red wines, that I think you are all beautiful and... Just kidding. I do want to say though how I've noticed some little things that are nice: like people who still seem to enjoy the game and each other's company (in writing) and who make contributions when they are able to make them.

BlueSteel, the pleasure in playing above normal is: not knowing whether one will win until the mid-game. The scoring formula doesn't reflect that. Now for some reason, Stardock has decided that maso is so difficult that it should score BIG. I think it is so dramatic a change that it will 'distort' the Metaverse. Frogboy foreshadowed such a change but alluded to downgrading easier levels retrospectively. They haven't done this, but the end result is the same.
If you are interested in scoring, then you have to play maso! If you can play gigantic maso, you'll be at 1,000,000 within a few months.

My impression of the new version is that a few more odd events happened than I've been used to. Like, after a Torean leader was assassinated and dragged me into a war, the Torians also surfaced with dozens of corvettes scattered around the map (gifted by an unknown source). The graphics for stars are nicer. I enjoy playing Galciv and reading the latest scandals and stories. I think Galciv players are a broad cross-section of the international community with a few interesting characters sprinkled in the mix. Not sure where I'm going with this. Now where's my red?

The Sad truth about Golf:

But the most important thing to realize about golf, is that most play it to show off they are part of the idle rich. Indeed that is why it was invented. So the more expensive and less used the better. But much like Tudor style became the show off style of the upper middle class, so too has golf been perverted from its original intent. It is much the same with high heels for the ladies.
