Captain Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

Fixes are in, btw milking is still very powerful.

At least at the higher difficulties.

I'm trying to play a game like the guy you were debating a while back right now. Very passive. There is alot, and I mean alot of ignoring obvious paths to taking victory. We'll see how it scores.

BTW did you update those 1.044 scores? You can if you have em saved.

How come blowing star systems up with a terror star doesn't make you evil? I blew up 7 systems murdering over 360 billion major beings, but apparently that pales in comparison to calling in some exteriminators to take care of a worm problem on an uninhabited planet...

It's embarassing when a pirate ends up good... since I had to kiss up to the Altarians right up to the point where I blew up thier homeworld.

Anyway, the scoring system doesn't seem to be the 1.4x version now, I just submitted a game at over 5,000 points and I'm not that good yet.

Does the game get more difficult with bigger maps?

Yes and no. I find the smaller easier in that once I get a planetary advantage, it sticks out like a sore thumb. The bigger maps are easier in that you have time to build before having to have a large fleet. Also, the tech comes much easier. in that you have a greater # of planets to build an economy. The strategy really is a bit different on both.
Also, try not to destroy too many worlds. It lowers your score. then again it really is fun!!! But I agree. Send Billions to their graves with Terror stars. Nope that's not evil. Kill a couple worms.

Ohhhhh you tyrant!!!! Congrats on 5k. We're over 100k now. Wooohooo. Lets keep it up. We lose me for about a week starting Monday.

Geez I Got into a shooting war. I had to play defensively as I ran afoul of a Torian/Arcean/Altarian aliance. I have a save from before the war where I can go to a tech win. This one will show
1. whether time means anything in this game (at least on medium.
2. The relative strenght of pop vs other factors
3. Whether your kills/losses militarily factor into the score at all (I have a heck of a kill ratio with big #s.

Simple. We don't make the rules, we just find ways to break rules. Maybe we'll get punished later in another life by having to be the worm that gets killed for the better PQ...

Rules. We don't need no stinkin rules. We make our own rules here in the survey ship of doom. And what's that rule?

JUST WIN BABY. It doesn't matter how success is achieved. Because when all is said and done, Any win is better than any defeat. And any subjected or eliminated Alien is a good thing. You, as the victor, can write history any way you like in the end.

Speaking of wins Well done guys. As of bed time we have cleared the 110k barrior and no one else is over 100k yet. The Euro's should be waking up soon and will be on our tail again tomorroe.

That's ok Shakaar. The wolf in sheep's clothing technique is well appreciated here. Play that goody Goody all you want. Tactics are irrelevant. The only goal is the subjugation of the Aliens.

Why did Sergei get a new nick and ixne all his old scores?
End of quote

Because he is going to show us what a super noob can do without any shackles tying him down. The overall goal seems to be to prove the disparities of the scoring system, especially in regard to old version players.

Oh, and welcome aboard, Shakaar. We can always use another raider. Afterall, it takes a lot of manpower to plunder all those other empires' ports! :)

Im thinking of retiring early.

I am very competitive and enjoy competing for the top
of the scoring system, and while I have patiently
tried to explain what would make a scoring system fun
to compete within, they have persisted in rewarding
behaviour that is beyond dull.

I understand that from their perspective, the metaverse
does not exist for players like me, those who actually
try to compete, but rather for those that just want
to see how er, you know, I have no idea who it is for.

Its a ranking system that seems to have as its reason
for existence, to not rank people, or to rank people
by how bored they can make themselves by hitting
turn in a dead game.

I had a lot of fun talking with you guys and such,
but ive played to many multiplayer games and as a
single player game, I have played Galciv out. With the
multiplayer element starting to make me cry tears of
boredom, I think its time for me to go.

Anyway, the scoring system isnt for someone like me,
so I guess I should go and play something that is :)

Staffa: Good luck to ya if that's what you decide. But... I think you're clobbering this one anyway bud. And I don't think the penalty is going to give you too much trouble. Heck, I think we should make you play 1.044 just to give us all a chance. :)

Look at it this way. Gigantic Maso, not exploited. Ends at 2005 20k,
Gigantic exploited a bit tough ends at 2204. 17k

But, as you know. Exploiting for score takes much longer. You can get 2 or 3 of those 20k maso's in not exploiting whereas the explointing player can only get 1 at their levels. The advantage is still yours. Maybe not on a single game, but over the long haul. And I totally agree with you about the score degradation. But... I look upon that as a challenge. And they still can't catch you. Keep your chin up. You could probably play tiny, exploit nothing, and still womp everyone. You'll always be welcome here regardless of what you decide. But give it some more time...

Perhaps we'll be able to convince em # of turns should be of the essence a bit more. I think I've made a persuasive argument that it should be.

And don't let Cm and his junk get you down. Keep your chin up. Regards... Pontius Oh and play one once in awhile at least for the team no matter what you decide. :)

Its bout as boring to play to 2204 as it is to play to
2205 when the game ends in 2195, but thx :)

Staffa: Good luck whereever you go. Stop in from time to time. Play your games how you want em, play whatever games you want, submit or not as you desire, and don't care about the score. I must confess, I too may have played out this game. It gets very tedius toward the end game for me. I essentially see the game as won or lost before the year 2188 or so toward the end ot the colony rush. After that it becomes work. I tried doing the smaller maps but those are even worse!!!

I had it called way early. I said don't milk, boredom will ensue fast. I was all too prophetic.

Good luck. If I had a high speed connection I'd take your azz down at AofE 1 or 2. :)

Those of you just starting this game reading Staffa's, Rays, and Sergie's laments and quittings, I will repost a post I made soon after I formed this empire.

I won't tell you how to play but I recommend you do not milk the game to the hilt. The military wins score more points if you turn off all the other options, but take your wins when they come. The inevitable result of milking is boredom and you quitting the game. Not that these 3 milk alot. But increasingly, we at the top have felt a need to milk, simply because that is what scores. And once you know that, where else is there to go?
Pontius, I also posted my thoughts about the new scoring system in KseAli's thread. The issue of milking for higher scores, or even playing with an eye on maximising one's score, will kill off a heap of players really quickly.

I must confess, I too may have played out this game. It gets very tedius toward the end game for me. I essentially see the game as won or lost before the year 2188 or so toward the end of the colony rush. After that it becomes work.

I fully agree with you about knowing when you have won/lost.

For me: Apart from very rare random events, I find that the game has become too linear. At crippling level on small maps I ensure I find the Alexians or other minor civs to trade. I build up my fleet. No other civ declares war against me. Game is won.

In other games (eg Alpha Centauri, civ3) the other civs may suddenly declare war when you least expect it or are unprepared. Not in Galciv, unless you are stupid enuf to let your miltary run down. There are no AI opportunistic wars. That is something that HAS to be dealt with in the update.

If your involvement goes (with RayChua and Staffa gone), for me, the Galciv community will be stillborn before it really got started. :sniff!:

That's easier said than done, Pontius.

How many of us belonging to empires and engaged in a Empire competition separated by mere Metaverse points would stop to take an earlier victory when the later victory which would result in double or triple the points?

Just last night, I was at the verge of an Alliance victory with two races at 2189 in my Maso/Large game but instead I found myself thinking hard about how I can get a better score by grabbing all influence resources (using the Shadow hand tactic) and then building party palaces round my potential allies so that I could get a Military victory while finishing up my tech tree and building all those TGs and wonders.

One of the reasons I wanted to "milk" the score is the fact that I somehow don't think it is justifed that my Maso game should be getting a lower score than a normal difficulty one. Yes, these are all excuses but I have admitted that I have gotten too emotionally involved in the Metaverse.

So let this be a warning to those of you who are thinking of participating in the Metaverse. Don't get caught up with scoring else you could be playing more than 1/2 your game for score rather than for fun.
