Captain Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

Don't worry, boss. My raiding has been hindered a bit by some killer ion storms (read as: too many real life issues), but I am working on picking off some poor alien fools.

Besides, we need to man those rear guns still. The MWC doesn't like being owned. They have yet to learn their proper, submissive place and must be "disciplined." ;)

I don't know. I think they are just untrainable. Sort of like my pet Targ. But disciplining them is so much fun anyway. Besides, we have to pull behind an asteroid once in awhile and let em pass so we can sneak up on em when we get low on booze.

Oh my evil wife intrudes on my raiding quite a bit. HEHE.

The survery ship of DOOM singlehandy takes out the Yor civilization (Challenging game, small map Yor on my border).

I trade for Impulse early, built four transports and use my debris enhanced survey ship to destroy defenders on all 4 Yor systems. (The war party bonus seemed to keep it alive and kicking.)

I thought people might get a kick out of a Survery ship rush... (even if it was the Yor) LOL
LOL LOL LOL LOL :D :D LOL ;p

Gonna have to get on that do not call list. Finally congress gives me something useful!!!. Anyone that voted for that will have my vote for anything in the future. Along with anyone that votes to close the loopholes in it.

What loop holes

"Nonprofit" organizations are exempt as are calls not designed to "sell" you something.

Ie political parties can still call.
The "Sherriffs benevolance fund" can still call
Time shares can still call because technically what they are giving you is a free trip. It makes no difference that on that trip they will try to sell you something. The trip is free so they can call as long as they don't give you a sales pitch in the call. Pretty big loophole isn't it?

Let me just personally say that as someone who makes a living in sales and 90% of my income is made on the phone, I don't mind the new law in the least. And I don't mind if I have expressed an interest in the product, a sales call to give me info on sales and such. And I can tell you 99% don't mind as long as you have some real info to give em. So this law won't affect me at all. Solicited (ie customer expressed an interest and filled out a visitor card) calls are also exempt and should be.

The web site is supposed to be www.donotcall.gov. I can't even get on it. Oh, my two biggest callers: SBC (phone people) and the symphony. They are also exempt of course (since I am already a customer...) Sigh. Hate telemarketers. they call every day at 10am. *every* day.

Um, "Gibbie99" ??? Now this is not fair. How come my new name got a serve and Gibbie99 doesn't? Seems to me there are 2 standards operating in GROSS.

My partner is at work and I'm supposed to be packing the kitchenwear for our move. Hehe, what a sucker.

On a similar theme, the Commonwealth Government here is introducing an anti-spam law into Parliament to make it illegal to send unsolicited spam emails with misleading titles, pornographic etc. The only problem is that most come from America. Oh well.

I find the pop-up messages which take my game to the desktop somewhat more annoying, especially the new one which says something like "your business could send a message like this to millions, visit our website to find out how". :notsure:

On a game theme, thank you so much for regaining top spot. And for Staffa regaining top spot on the Metaverse. There are some things that are too much to bear (hehe) and those injustices were 2 of them.

Yeah, a lot of the time via China or any other country with lack of law enforcement ability against the criminal. In order to nail a spammer, you must get an ISP to reveal who that customer is. Some webmasters are cool about this and do not want to have open relays or be harbors for spammers, but others just take the money and ask no questions, if they are not the spammers themselves, in which case they are basically untouchable.

An American spamming targeting Americans through an ISP in the USA can be brought down by getting a court order demanding that the ISP turn over the identity of the spammer, and then the legal system handles the offender once he is known. But for a case of a foreign ISP, the legal system in that country has to pry that identity from the ISP. And there are many places where the legal system doesn't care about computer crime like spamming, laundering money, and computer infrastructure attacks.

So, new laws may be effective against a segment of spammers using home-grown ISPs, but the real big boys just use international boundaries to cover their tracks.

That pop up can be easily disabled. It's simple, but I found this out after playing around with a few things. I dunno if this works on any other operating system other than XP, but if you can find the 'services' program then you're set... here's how (for XP users):

Click Start
Click on Control Panel (you can also find it under 'my computer')
Click on Administrative Tools
Click on Services
Scroll Down and find Messenger
Double click on it
Under the General tab, look at Startup Type
Click on the drop down box and select disabled
Click on Apply, then Ok and close any remaining open windows
(May want to restart comp also)

There ya go :) . Good thing about this is that you don't have to pay the $20 for the program that does it for you ;) . Btw, disabliling this will NOT disable windows or MSN messenger. Here's what the description is:

*Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter messages will not be transmitted. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.*

There are also a whole slew of services that most home computers don't use, and if disabled, it can help computer preformance, and decrease boot and shutdown time.

Hope this helps.
