Electronic Arts has dated two of its upcoming properties, Dead Space, and the PC edition of BioWare's critically-acclaimed Xbox 360 title Mass Effect. The sci-fi horror title Dead Space will appropriately be released in North America and Europe on Halloween, or October 31st. Unfortunately, EA specifically mentioned October 31 for the PS3 and 360 versions. As of press time the release date for the PC edition is unconfirmed.
“Survival horror is about experiencing a terrifying, and deeply personal fiction,” said Executive Producer Glen Schofield. “Dead Space is being developed as a single-player thriller that delivers the chilling, claustrophobic feeling of being isolated in a dark environment, while being stalked by some truly horrific enemies. Halloween is the perfect time for EA to deliver the fear and anxiety that will keep survival horror fans up playing all night.”
Mass Effect for the PC on the other hand will be arriving much earlier. The journey to stop Saren will begin for PC gamers on May 6 with re-designed features to make better use of the mouse and keyboard combination. Among these will be the ability to assign each squad member specific tasks, hotkeys for psionic powers and abilities and redesigned vehicle controls.
The PC edition is already sounding like the better buy seeing as the title will also feature a new inventory system and changes to the Mako vehicle, both objects of critical-panning for the Xbox 360 version.
Hopefully BioWare does something about the texture loading and shadowing problems that many complained about as well.
