Tech trading in TA

How is tech trading different in TA?

Can the tech that you can not learn be traded for?

Will the AI players trade you tech that is unique to their trees,  assuming it is a teck type that they would be inclined to trade anyway.

Just wondering if it is posible to trade tech with the different races to get the best of each of the building types.

Absolutely. For some of the races this is almost a necessity. TA is different in that some of the race specific techs can not be traded for at all, *and* some of the techs that they will trade you won't work for you. So you will have to learn what all of these are or you may end up getting scr&wed in trading. If you are judicious in your trading habits, and learn what all of the various techs do, then you can end up with some interesting, and quite powerful combinations. I, for example, have taken Thala (17) up to 30+ with the Thalan good techs and the Arcean weather control tech.

Some of the techs are race specific and cannot be traded !!!

By not work do you mean they only work for one allignment(evil, nuetral, good)?
Or they just do not work. I could see this happening with the yor considering they are synthetic.

It could be based on alignment, but what I meant was that certain techs are race-specific: i.e. the Torian techs only work for the Torians, the Thalan techs only work for the Thalans, etc. These races may still offer these for trade, and will accept payment for them, but when you close the trade window, they will not show up in your list. You will need to learn which techs are race-specific, or you will occasionally get 'played'. Some of these will show up in the trade window with an asterisk (*) next to them, but I don't believe at this time that they all do. If anything along these lines has changed in the latest patch(es), please let me know.

I think I'm going to try a game of TA with tech trading turned off. I've never tried this before.

How does turning tech trading off effect things in general?

Makes it harder on your econ since you cant sell techs, and makes it a little tougher to develop planets since you can't trade for other races techs, like factories or labs, etc.
