GalCiv "Debate forum"

I propose we add a GalCiv debate forum, which would make a 4rth forum.

What is it useful to? Well it is mainly to debate... ;p

Should it be what could be ameliorated, or how it could be better, what could be nice to see in a patch/XP pack or if Kowabunga is a better turtle name than Twitifwiti, this would be the place.

I'm saying this just after I see that if I put the debate I wanted, it wont stay on top long enough to bring anything USEFUL...

PS: In my case, it was concerning the XP pack. I wondered if we could modelize culture variations in a simple way (enlightenment, pro-war cultures, xenophobia...).

That could be a good idea as long as everyone stays civil, if you get my drift. Say no more, nudge nudge.

Well I have no intention to become military :P
If it would become a problem (I don't see why) a moderator would arrange that.

That'll largely depend on the topic. I know a game forum where they also discuss Irak and a wide variety of other political topics.

I moderator would be usefull :)

I have seen plenty of, ahem, debates on here. I think a debates forum would be nice, but I'd just as easily rather see a general or off-topic forum, which could also host "debates" (read mud-slinging, arguing, personal attacks, etc.) Most of the posts I start are OT (which also tend to stir up debate) and I'm guessing many people don't like to have to wade through extra subject titles.

It would be great to debate game concepts etc. Discussing politics (and religion) is an absolute no win, waste of time proposition. One side day, one side night. One side right, one side wrong. Never a compromise. Why bother unless you just want to hear yourself talk?
Discussion og GalCiv and other games pluses and merits would be good fun though.

Well, I bother sometimes to hear what other people have to say, even if in the end I still don't agree with them. Sharing ideas doesn't stop just because theres not guarentee that they will be accepted. There is plenty of room in the forums already to discuss the game. In my opinion, part of the enjoyment of being part of a community is to find out what other people think beyond the game. Diversity and disagreement come with the territory.

I think discussing religion or politics ceases being constructive when people start the name calling, personal attacks, etc. (which I will agree tends to happen almost every time). Some folks don't think people should be offended by anything, so they think it's okay to say anything in any manner they choose. Relaying your ideas, and relaying your ideas in a vicious way are two different things.

I tend to agree with whoever it was that said, "Civility is the glue that holds Society together."

But as usual, this is just my humble opinion.

shring ideas is great. But when it comes to political discussions, there is rarely a sharing of thoughts. Its always turns into a my side/your side slugfest. Bush sucks. Oh yeah, Clinton was worse. Dems are better than Republicans etc etc blah blah blah. Yawn.
I suppose it IS possible to share thoughts and ideas on politics and religion. I just have never witnessed any on any forum that didnt turn into nonsense. I suppose that if ever there COULD be good debates on those subjects, it could come from the folks on this forum. I 'll give you and everybody on this board that much.
And as far as your humble opinion goes...its a darn good one. :) :) ;)

I'd love to see it myself. It would be great to have a group that could discuss sometimes touchy subjects without losing their cool. Afterall, I love a good discussion when I have the time!

I've started many debate topics yet, but they all go down and BEBYE. And I'm not alone so it would easily be a forum in itself, with activity: brain activity, constructive and intelligent activity.
