ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

hey ppl - just got back from my little working holiday (with no net access, grrr...) - anyways, I uploaded a couple old games, now I've just got to find a few days to read backlogged forum posts and spam mail...

This place really needs a "What's Doing?" newsletter :)

The Excalibur is an absolute BeAsT and 17/17 (plus other bonuses) for movement/turn on a Large map makes you feel like your playing on small! Actually come to think of it I've never teched right through to and built Excaliburs on small (or better still tiny). That would be hilarious . . .

I got the fright of my life in my recent game when I saw the Dregens had them too (Excaliburs 680 attack!). Mabye I over reacted a bit building over a hundered antimatter missiles in very quick time. It was a bit counter productive because it slowed the game down so much and they kept on taking out those poor little trade ships on the way to thier destination (wow thats overkill!)

Hi Quack! If you've been away anymore than two weeks I think you should mabye sit down befor reading through our recent history! Anyway welcome back!

3. If you ever have anything to add to the LIVE story just but in with your 2 cents worth..

4. Remember your an ANZAC .. don't stand for any noncence and don't let yourself feel down drodden by any opposing empire...

5. We shall remember them... ' Lest we forget '

Dark places? Please do leave a lot of dark nooks and crannies. The Spymaster and his espionage droids need someplace to hide! :)

Say I 've got a question for y'all seein' as how the ANZACs have a very goody-goody membership (game alignment only). How can y'all stand that white screen interface thing? I saw it for the first time just yesterday and my eyes are still struggling to recover! :p And that blue-eyed dorkbot... sheesh! The graphics alone woulda driven me to the dark side. Do y'all wear sunglasses while ya play? :HOT: LOL

General rantings and ravings from the last month's worth of posts:

* Don't knock them tunes. New York's a classic. I defy you not to enjoy a drunken karaoke night. Don't be ashamed of your suckiness. Revel in it! If you spend so little time working on your singing voice, you must be practising something much more important.

/quack fires up the pub jukebox and drunken choir

You've lost that lovin' feeling,
whoa-oh that lovin' feeling,
you've lost that lovin' feeling,
and now it's gone, gonne, gonnnne,
whoa-oa-oa-ohhhh....

But I draw the line at "Doe, a deer, a female deer..." and YMCA. (must... repress... drunken... memories... REPRESS!!! NNNGH!!!)

* Pots suck. At least it's easier to get jugs in Melbourne than Sydney. Well, apart from that crooked place that advertised $5 jugs of bourbon on coke to get everyone inside, then told people they'd run out of jugs, and wouldn't serve any more jugs unless someone happened to have one already. And what's with the good places not opening till 9pm on saturday evenings? When I had to back on base by midnight - what a rip.

* B5 rules. Nuff said. As for the treks, I'd take DS9 first, followed by the later seasons of TNG. But the charactes in B5 were some of the best I've ever seen.
That episode at the end of season 5 when Londo finds out what's been going on at home, and what he has to do... wow. Londo always was a favourite of mine :-)

* Super-heroes? Well, I've got the psychic duck thing going already... but I don't want to be a real super-hero. They're always running around chasing people, I want to sleep in. I'll trip up some evil dude if he walks in front of me (or steals a beer in a pub), but that's it.

* Wrestlers, hey? You don't have to be in the WWF to have showmanship. They've got nothing on us. Well, nothing except spandex. Maybe ponty just has a thing for men in tights? Cue the invisible people!

We're men, we're men in tights,
We show up in ponty's head and give him a fright!

We're men, we're men in ti-ights,
He loves to see us dance but don't tell the wife!

Some may look like wo-men,
But he shoves them aside cause he knows what he likes,

We're men, we're men in tights (tight tights!)
But we gotta run or he'll lock us up all night!

You shouldn't have started those little dudes singing...

* I don't mind seeing the good interface once in a while. It reminds me what a good person I am while I'm letting insects live, but slaughtering sentient races by the truckload.

* Hmm, ANZAC or the Southern Seas Pirates... I've gotta say, that offer of turning a B5 destroyer into an interstellar drink-mixer is pretty tempting, I might sign up for a tour of duty with the pirates once I've read all the other threads. But I'll finish with another song:

I've been to cities that never close down,
From New York, to Rio, to old London town,
But no matter how far, or how wide I roam,
I still call Australia home!

As a great man once said, "I love yas all!"
LOL

It's only a game I know . . . but at 1 am in the morning with 20 alien Excaliburs on my doorstep I need to be a 'believer' . . . There's been alot of subterfuge revolving around the ANZAC's lately (not pointing any fingers, it's all too obvious which other empire is responsible).

Although this is harsh and difficult to say I can't see any of the qualities here and now I thought would comprise this Southern Alliance. Mateship, Stickability, Loyalty? I mention this because I care and feel ashamed in leaving . . . but it's just a game, isn't it?

This suffragette wishes you all well.

Hmm....no, there was NO subterfuge, and I trust you read ALL the ANZAC threads while you were gone, just to reassure yourself of that fact. Those of who left made our concerns pretty clear, and had every right to look for a group that felt right to us. The inference that GROSS somehow 'culture bombed' ANZAC is simply untrue - we, or I (I'm happy to cop the blame), started Freedom Force because I was looking for a like minded group of people who wanted to haul together. At that time, there seemed to be practically no one visible in ANZAC, and Slitherin and I particularly felt very isolated.

When the Freedom Force thing ended up going nowhere, I looked around for the same thing - a like minded group. GROSS has that character: a bunch of likeable larrakins, stick together, fight hard, support each other - have a real crack and still be prepared to take the piss out of each other and play it for laughs at the end of the day. Pretty appealing to an Aussie, frankly, and there seemed no point in going back to ANZAC because the reasons I left it still applied.

I cared about ANZAC too, but just couldn't see it flying as a regional empire: too small a critical mass - I certainly posted enough stories to try and keep it in the public eye. Perhaps events have borne my view out. Not too sure it's fair for you to cast stuff around about loyalty, wearing that nice golden ring. I'd certainly support your right to seek out gaming fun with whomever you choose. A number of players in GROSS and other empires have moved around to find a fitting home - FriendJosh went from ANZAC - nothing - MWC - and then to FOTR, as you have done.

I feel for BlueSteel and Slitherin - door's always open at the Posse, guys, if you're lonely. Otherwise, good luck in pressing on under the Southern Cross.

Ditto. Wild put it better than I could've. I'm still rooting for the ANZACs, and for the ANZAC franchise. I won't go over the same points. I have a lot of time for BlueSteel's moxie which also got the attention of non-ANZACs! Hope everything is cool and that if being in a regional group becomes too limiting, a theme-based group can appeal to you (whether that be the Southern Seas or whatever).

And guys, keep the stories coming: at the end of the day you have brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people!
