Frustrating GCII Issue

I am experiencing a problem with GCII.  I have played about a dozen games now and three of them have come to abrubt ends.  I reach a point where I take a turn and the game never returns.  To be more specific the "Turn" button never reappears and I am unable to continue.  I usually play long game (thousands of turns) and this has only happened late in the game.  Once this occurs I am unable to proceed even if I reload the autosave or previous autosave game as the problem reoccurrs once the same turn is reached.

Is this a know problem for which a solution is available?  Or is this perhaps something specific with my system?

I've been having same problems, plays  on vista perfectly... but seems to happen more often when I'm zoomed out while hitting the turn button, or sometimes with autopilot things (not sure if they're just unable to complete their action and get stuck). Same about the reloading and it happening again. I read somewhere that it was probably a driver issue, but that doesn't explain why it happens so often and randomly, but could relate to zooming in and out if it's a graphics bug/issue.

I've had similar issues, but ususally there is a ship waiting for a command that isn't real obvious. I discovered this by hitting the space bar to skip ship movement, and that solved the problem. Didn't do much for getting dumped out of the game repeatedly though.  I can't find a solution to that to save my life.
