Oak - Axe Wielding Maniac

I'm looking for a bit of help tweaking my Oak build. I started off as a minion fanboy but recently have been trying things differently and have come to a character I'm far happier with, I'm looking for a bit of help tweaking my strat though so if anyone notices anything they'd change feel free to post so I can weigh out the pros and cons with you. Thanks again for reading.

I'll also try and keep the build as simple as possible to read, no need for a wall of text.

17. Last Stand II

18. Divine Justice I

19. Divine Justice II

Items:

Start: Scalemail, Banded Armour, Teleport Scroll (will have to wait a few seconds but wont leave you lagging behind)

First buy: Vlemish Faceguard

Second buy: Mage Slayer

Third Buy: Journeyman Treads

By the time I have this setup the game is pretty much over, I'm already dominating the field. But in case it goes further I normally trade the 2 armour in and upgrade to godplate and I normally save for an Giant Belt (I think thats what it's called, the once with 100% cleave) and a deathblade for some extra attack speed as it doesn't take an item slot. That's a lot of gold though, if the games lasted that long I guess somethings wrong.

Playstyle:

Your role as an axe wielding maniac will be to be a supportive front line attacker. Try not to stay in the thick of the fight too long during the early levels and try to avoid death and unneccessary base trips at all costs since you want the Vlemish faceguard ASAP. Harass enemy demigods early and if they try to port hit them with a penitence so at the very least they have to run back instead if you don't kill them. Use your shield to get yourself (and allies) out of sticky situations. Use surge of faith to help your troops push forward. When you get the Mage Slayer you can turn from supportive front liner into all out psychopath, that thing really does make a sickening difference. In Demigod fights use Surge of Faith to open up with, the attack speed bonus stacked with Mage Slayer should have you swinging for the fences. Save Shield to block one of their big attacks or as an escape method to run away, don't use Penitence unless they're portalling out or they're running and on low hp, it's a great finishing move.

The playstyle is heavily influence by what scenario you're playing, but if it's fortress you can take down pretty much any fort in 2 lives if you want to be suicidal and take one for the team. Run up to a fort and start batting it, pop your shield up when you're on low health, die and use your sickly reincarnation to cause as much remaining damage as possible. At about level 14/15 you should be able to knock off enough health so that by the time you come back, it only has half remaining.

I didn't bother with souls or the heal upon kill until later stages because to be honest it's not really that necessary. I know some people may see it as vital but playing this role with this build, it's not. I get the heal at later stages because when you have an ogre/giant belt and you're killing everything around you the heals off level 3 are ridiculous, you can permanently keep your army and allies up.

I find that divine justice is an integral part of my oak build. If you want to avoid falling back to the shop, then what is better than a heal and mana for every kill you make? Plus, I read that if you max the spirits / soul power combo, you add something like 200 attack. Plus whatever the spirits do. Also, dead ward at lvl 3-4 gives a 250/500 armor bonus for the area. Very handy for holding the line. I would personally lose a few points in shield, maybe a point out of last stand and get ward 3. 250 armor and 7 spirits can help out ALOT. Plus considering the very low mana cost of keeping spirits in the game and that divine justice keeps tossing hp at them....

Even if you sit your undead at base and dont use them, they're important for soul powered.

Each one is worth like +10 damage or more with soul power which is far more than the 20/40/60.

I like the look of your build, but from a fellow Oak player to another, I will offer you some insight. Ive found that getting Divine Justice before getting Surge of Faith increases Oak's survivablilty. Granted, I get Surge of faith as soon as I get Divine Justice as everytime I use SoF, I get an AoE heal which stacks (as multiple guys die at the same time). Toy around with your skills and see what you come up with!

I usually don't end up my oak like this. I don't really like shield too much and end up with 0 or 1 points into it, but im not saying it's usless. If I have 0 into shield i usually place it into last stand. I usually place everything near the end into Raise Dead Ward and the other thing that comes after since I found the spirits useful and I think it affected soul power (or maybe i heard wrong.) But that's just me.

Divine Justice advice is good, but I've found I can make the build work with only 1 level of divine justice. I also use shield only at level one, and only as a cleanser/oh %%&^ button.

First buy past the basic items should always be Heart of Life. You can use heart of life interrupt free while shielded. After HoL I usually get slayer's gloves and then mageslayer because the crit chance on slayers especially for the gloves price far outweighs mageslayer.
