The White Council Invitation

The White Council Invitation

The intent of the White Council is to band together a community of gamers who are interested to Galciv regularly and to contribute to improving the game while being useful members of this forum.

The pre-requiste for a White Council member is basic commitment to the above purpose. There is no requirement for you to be as clinical a finisher as "I can win in my sleep" Staffa or have the workrate of Sergey the dark horse/black sheep. :)

You might ask as to why you should join the Council where you could be a regular contributor by yourself. The White Council is an opportunity for you to belong to a small community within the big Galciv one. You would also be assured of help or assistance from your fellow Council members as needed.

If you are keen to join the Council, follow this link and click Join http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=329

Ellestar,

Don't you think you are too hard on your compatriot, Sergey (and on the Council)? Just because someone likes to compete on the metaverse (which is a competition in many ways) doesn't mean that this person cannot be a contributor to the game nor be a useful member of the forum.

Yes, he may have made some points on scoring (like many other Galcivers) but I am not going to sit on a high horse and look down on people who wishes to discuss about that. I myself have never said I am not concerned with scoring, in fact if you recall, I have even suggested changes to scoring once.

The council's intent is to contribute in our own little ways to improve the game whether it is through suggestions or some information collation like what Gezz suggested. We will also be active members in the forum - I do see many council members posting in response to questions from newbies and all. We would support the Metaverse (competiting for those who enjoy it, improving the AI, etc). And lastly, we should be having fun, this is after all a game and we should remember that.

Ellestar, you are obviously one with high standards and I respect that. There is no need for you to be cynical in this universe, leave that to real life. :)

Thanks for the compliments, Sergey. You would be glad to see that your posts and strategies are also benefited those who are reading it.

Gezz,
Your suggestion is great. I believe many of us had wished for someone to summarise the huge suggestion thread. What do the other Council members think?

Should we parcel out the pages and then summarise the points (and removing duplicates and suggestions which have already been implemented)? Or we could parcel them out based suggestions to the AI, UI, diplomacy, tactics, tech tree, etc.

Report on the state of the Council :

We welcome jus4golf, our 7th council member. We have grown in strength since our formation 5 days ago.

In light of the invite only status of the Council, I have decided to implement the following with regards to membership admission henceforth. I would be highlighting applicants in this thread for the Council's consideration. You have 24 hours to respond to my notification as to why you do not believe the applicant should have a seat at our council. You do not have to reply if you are for or not opposed to the application. If the majority of the council believes that the applicant should be rejected, we will not accept the application.

However, I would be reserving the veto power as Council Leader. Rest assured that I would not go against the will of the Council unless of extraordinary circumstances.

Laugh, im not sure how much longer I can hold off
Sergey either. I do believe masochistic is not worth
the trouble point wise. In fact I am sick of
gigantic masochistic. I do love tiny masochistic now
though.

To play crippling or not to play crippling, that is
the question, oh well, I need 2 days to catch up
with school work, lets see if Sergey can take the
lead by then.

Btw, very nice strategy sergey, its very pleasing to
me to see that an entirely different approach can
bring success at this game. I like games that have
multiple solutions :)

Ellester, wtf, your sitting their posting about
being the top empire and then complain about others
considering metaverse points as something of interest?

Council members, we have J4 to thank for our new White Council icon! (clear your cache)

For the unenlightened, the character stands for white in kanji (japanese) and chinese. That adds the element of far-eastern mysticism to the magic of LOTR.

Let's gather around and do what we do in real corporate life - try to find deep symbolic meaning in every single stroke of a logo/icon to justify the high cost of paying the logo designers. LOL

Far Eastern mysticism and LOTR? Throw in some kung fu and some gun fights and we just went down the rabbit hole, folks. Enter the Matrix, LOTR style. ;)

Nice new logo, by the way.

1) Ellestar
2) For me there is a difference between 1st place and milking scores to be at the 1st place. But since you are milking scores even at tiny map, perhaps i'll reconsider my goals.

You are wrong, my stadarts are very low ;). There you saw a Munchkin with high standarts? "Munchkin do whatever gives most pluses". //REAL MEN, REAL ROLEPLAYERS, LOONIES AND MUNCHKINS By Jeff Okamoto, Sandy Petersen, and lots of others//

The main reason why i posted this because i thouht that you are one with high standarts. And i vas very disappointed then i saw that is going on now. So, if fairplay is over in metaverse, so be it.

I personally do not enjoy squeezing the last drop of points out of every Galciv game I play and I would not encourage people to milk.

Yet, I do not condemn others who wishes to compete on the Metaverse by going for high scoring games. This is their Galciv game and if Staffa and Sergey wishes to compete for 1st, I say more power to them. If you wish to join the race, more power to you as well.

Metaverse domination will not be the overriding objective of the White Council. You will not see the acceptance of applicants based on their scoring records. You will also not see me urging members to submit more scores. But this does not mean we are taking the high road of completely ignoring the scoring aspects of the Metaverse.

Hope I have made myself clear to you.

Just would like to add Ellestar - remember that this is just a game :)

Have fun, not grief.
Well put RayChua. I suspect Ellestar is clumsily trying to stir you up, but you seem very composed and, dare I say it, wizard like.
I don't think so Chris. He was holding on to a gentleman's concept of what he deems as fair with regards to metaverse competition and was rather affected by the fact that not everyone is playing according to his concept.

Anyway, I hope he does lighten up and adopt your kind of "irrelevant, slapstick" approach to Galciving! :D
Reply #67 Top
Thank you RayChua. I suspect you are right. I am actually crafting a new thread which I think explains the way Galciv is different for everyone. Keep an eye out. And Singapore is on the same time zone as your lower neighbours is it not?
Lower neighbours as in Indonesia? Well, unlike Singapore which is just a dot on the world map, Indonesia probably has a few other time zones other than the same one with Singapore.

Waiting for a good one from you, Chris. As you said, Pontius is rather quiet nowadays, so the mantle is now firmly on your shoulders. :)

My positive vote for Redshift8. Only one question to Redshift8 - why 1.035 ?
Problems with downloading ?

About trading in 1.04

To get profit it is really important to meet all civs ASAP, especially Minor.

Now I found that this is very unstable, in my current game I have failed to meet very fast other civs and after usual Comm. Univ. Translator, Diplomacy research Defense. To my surprise when I meet first two majors they havn't Defense yet, but refuse to trade Defense for Cold fusion, or Defense for Basic Env. Control. They also refuse to Defense and Industry for Basic Env. Control. It seems that in the above situation when I got Defense before other civs, they select different path of reserching.

To Stafffa

May be I missed something on forum, but can you post details about your "entirely different approach".

I also like games that have multiple solutions, I think that this is most important feature for strategic game.

Ellestar, I was at the forefront of trying to get
the scoring system changed to not reward excessive
milking. It is quite a bit better now, but yes, milking
is still possible.

If I was merely interested in milking scores I wouldnt
play on masochistic as crippling are almost as high
and about 10 times easier to get. After all Sergey
has gotten 7100 for his best crippling score vs 7000
for my best masochistic.

I actually believe the map scoring is now on a bell curve
with the best scores being given out to large/huge
maps, not gigantic, and I dont disapprove of this.

But even so, crippling is a lot easier then masochistic
at any map size, masochistic bonuses are obscene.

I submit games for score, I do not just play games
for score, please dont confuse the two. If I was
a score hound, all I would play is large/huge crippling
games. And I might start playing some to keep sergey
off me, cause I am a little bit of a score hound, yea.

Btw Sergey, I have posted my strategy, though it has
evolved some sense then and I will do so again sure, but
not today I got a lot of work to catch up on :)

Ray, I think Chris meant Australia as your lower neighbour

And Australia is rich enough to afford 3 whole time zones!

Perhaps you was not on first forefront :) There was a lot of others before you.

About crippling. Yes, it's much easier and much faster to play. And milking negates difference in scores.

Sergey,
I'm now on 1.04, I just waited to finish the game on 1.035 that I had already started. It took me longer than any previous game (first masochistic, gigantic), but as soon as I completed that game I upgraded. I'm now in the middle of a huge crippling that I have good chances of winning (2 military resources, adjacent to altarian allies) but it is by no means certain. I have played and lost several crippling games in 1.04 but didn't complete the games so no post. If I win this game I will begin posting on 1.04.

I've never chosen research or diplomacy for starting options, going with two basic configurations.

War Party, 40% repair, 10% morale, 15% weapons, +1 speed,

Federalists, +1 speed, 10%moral, 30% weapons, +1 sensors

I use the first option to win the wars, and the second option to avoid them (economy can support a lot of ships, and the 30% weapons makes my military rating inflated). I might have to consider a new strategy now on 1.04. On 1.035 I found crippling to be somewhat challenging, and maso to be very challenging. Now I'm finding crippling to be very challenging, and maso to be fairly close to impossible for me.

I use trade goods much the same way as sergey, hoarding them for the bonuses, not trading. I have some difficulty keeping up in research with the majors, so usually can only trade tech with the minors. I need to figure out how to solve that problem if I want to move back up to maso (or even win crippling consistantly).
