The White Council Invitation

The White Council Invitation

The intent of the White Council is to band together a community of gamers who are interested to Galciv regularly and to contribute to improving the game while being useful members of this forum.

The pre-requiste for a White Council member is basic commitment to the above purpose. There is no requirement for you to be as clinical a finisher as "I can win in my sleep" Staffa or have the workrate of Sergey the dark horse/black sheep. :)

You might ask as to why you should join the Council where you could be a regular contributor by yourself. The White Council is an opportunity for you to belong to a small community within the big Galciv one. You would also be assured of help or assistance from your fellow Council members as needed.

Council Members,

I present two projects for your consideration and support. The first is Gezz's suggestion of summarising the long suggestion and expansion pack suggestion threads that have been around for a long time. This should be useful both to Stardock and also future suggestors.

The second is the establishment of a Galciv "community museum" which would include noteworthy stuff that our community has seen over the past months. I have taken note of a number of interesting quotes from personalities in our board. We could also include classical posts such as Staffa's "23k for dummies" so that all this history is not lost in the depths of the forum.

I appreciate that Council members have their own commitments on their time and may not be able to participate in all Council projects. Don't worry about this. There would be more projects along the way.

In addition, I am seriously considering sending out a bipartisan appeal for assistance from the bigger Galciv community on our projects. This is in light of the fact that the Council is still in an infancy stage and lack resources. It is also a good way to engage other members of the community.

Question. Is there any interest in creating a repository of game analysis? Maybe save games every couple years and a written discription of strategy and events.

I know when I played Age of Empires II there was the ability to save a replay of a game, and many very good players made their replays available for download. That allowed less experienced/skilled players to watch their build order, troop deployment, etc and actually see the results. It was a great learning tool. This game is a bit more complicated, turn based, and the games take quite a bit longer, but a similar process could be applied if the submitter included a detailed summary. And with save games included, a player could load up one of the games and click a couple turns to really see what's going on.

Description got a little long winded I guess. Does anyone think that would be worthwhile as a learning tool?

redshift8, that's a great suggestion for another worthy project.

A few other folks were planning to do this for the Game of the Month competition. I'm sure many Galcivers would be interested to have a deeper insight into how some of the top players are winning their games.

Good ideas all, but we need a lot more support and resources to be able to pull these off.

The council has spoken.

We welcome redshift8 as our 8th council member (what a coincidence :)).

redshift8, you can head on down to the tower armory to pick out your walking stick +1 and white robes.

It's good with explanations. Without them, players just copy other's tactics and this is a bad thing (there are a lot of players in StarCraft/WarCraft 3 who do it, there is a special name for them, but i don't know english equivalent). More important is to teach players how to think by himself, and use replays as example.

I definitely agree Ellestar. I think the danger of the starcraft/warcraft issue is less here because of the nature of the game. In this game, without explainations, it would be difficult from a few save games to really see what's going on.

RayChua,

I'm in on whichever project the council decided to tackle first. I work offshore as an engineer for a petroleum company. This puts me out of pocket for a couple of weeks at a time but gives me a couple of weeks at home as well to sit around and play GalCiv. I can find more than enough time to help out when I'm home. :)

By the way, count me in on strategy projects.

Ha!!! I always knew you were in league with Sauron the Deceiver Ray. Look at that evil tag the all powerful dev spell has revealed!!!!!!

But now everyone knows that Staffa is good. LOL

But what self-respecting G.R.O.S.S member would conceal his/her evilness?

Haven't you ever heard of the wolf in sheep's clothing technique?

Hah! Oh Evil Ray, when is The White Council becoming The Council of Many Colours? Is there to be a new strategy now: how to get an alignment of Pure Good or Pure Evil? ;)
LOL This new alignment icon is great!!

Yes, the evil megalomaniac in me is struggling to escape. No worries, I have a whole slew of good games and I expect to be Neutral soon.

To me, the White Council is not a Good empire per se. The Council in LOTR bred both evil Saruman (though he was stripped subsequently) and good Gandalf.

I have to check this with our inhouse Tolkien expert. Hey Chris, does White Council stand for all things nice and good in LOTR?

Council Members,

I present to you Shakaar's http://www.galciv.com/info.asp?accountID=634210 application to join the White Council.
I have included the link to his profile next to his nick so that you could have a look at it if you wish.
Thanks for your support on our Council projects, jus4fgolf and Ellestar. Especially Ellestar who have answered my bipartisan (which means independent of the empire you are in) call for assistance before I even asked!

I am very conscious of the fact that the White Council should not be all talk and no action. If we are constrained by resources, we should go with a single manageable project first and execute that properly before moving on to the next.

I present to you Shakaar's Link application to join the White Council.

Interesting that this was the empire where "we don't care about score, our purpose is benevolence" Yet, the first thing to come up with the link.... The applicant's scores!!!! LMAO.

Pontius,

I would have loved to attach a video depicting Shakaar's life history together with a salient summary of all the powerful arguments that he has made in the forum but unfortunately all this is not available to me. So I attach the next best thing which is the profile of the player.

Anyway, we didn't say that we don't care about score, it just isn't going to be our top priority, which I believe you also said isn't GROSS's. I would have a good laugh at anyone in the Top 25 or 50 who claims to be not concerned about score. :)

Oh, back to the subject of countering the evil detection spell: as of right now, David Chong has pointed out in the New Icons thread that he has one pure evil game submitted, yet the very good face. :SURPRISED:

On another topic, I have my eye on you wise guys. One day, your gonna just walk into our camp and say "We are peaceful travellers. Please let us pass." Then you will use a hypnotic spell to convince the GROSS guards to let you pass. Sneaky old devils. :)
Bah, if you sort the metaverse by alignment im the
top dog evil guy.

If you sort it by good, im only like 4th.

Yet im good overall :(

The evil board only counts the games you submit where your allignment was evil. Look at my score. Is my evil score higher than my overall score?

Just put the cane down there Ray: I'm just giving you a hard time.
I am totally unconcerned about scores.

Ray: I will research The White Council and get back to you (unless someone-else gets in before me). I do recall everyone had a colour: like Radagast the Brown, and Saruman the White etc. Unfortunately that suggests to me that you will be RayChua the Black. But hey, what do I know.
I note that your merger boosted The White Council to 4th, but I shan't get hysterical as I did when G.R.O.S.S. passed the ANZACs. (I think Pontius never fully forgave me for my outburst). So, well done and at least try to pick off those pesky Euros (whilst they are distracted with their political meetings). ;)
