Does incessantly high-pinging constitute a Connectivity problem?

I'm pretty sure THIS:

is my problem, but still, I've been unable to play a game of Demigod online with 3v3 (haven't managed to try a 2v2 yet) due to pings above 1800 anytime I get in a game.  Is there anything I can do, short of closing minor background programs (MSN, AIM, mIRC) in order to free up bandwidth to play this game without ruining the experience for everyone else and having to quit out to allow the others to play?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I generally have no problem actually getting into games, but once they start, Ping anywhere from 1800 and beyond shows up, causing the game to be an unplayable form of lag known as "Why the fuck are we playing with that Audley guy?"

Your upload speed is pretty much at the limit for 4v4, let alone 5v5. You are probably borderline for 3v3 because you have something else sucking up on that upload.

The behavior you are experiencing is a clear lack of upload bandwitdth once the game starts.

You need to either :

1) Do a complete check of your computer to remove unnecessary programs sucking that bandwidth

2) Upgrade your line

3) Don't play more than 2v2

Closing messaging programs is going to help, but only ever so slightly.  Your big hitters are going to be if you have any downloading or file sharing going on in the background (BitTorrent, LimeWire, Kazaa, any background updaters, etc).

I have to agree with the above poster though: you can probably upgrade to a better ISP for pretty cheap. Especially if you're in suburban Atlanta; there are a ton of ISPs in that area.

Your upload speed should be just fine (assuming no background internet usage) for 5v5.  It is low, yes, but it should work.  My speeds are around what you are showing, and I dont have issues, even with 4v4.  I can also attest to the fact that the new patch did indeed decrease the required bandwith, so 5v5 game should also work.

Is anyone else on your network.  At my place, there can be up to 3 computers on ym network.  If there is more than just me using the internet while playing Demi, My ping will spike like crazy.  This is becasue Demi uses the majority of my bandwith, so there is none to share.

I did a test yesterday with a friend to see what it would take to lag out a game.  I launched a game with me and that friend, then logged into speedtest.  My friend noticed 0 issues during the download test.  When the upload test was running, he said my ping spiked and he experienced very high amounts of lag.

So, based on that, I'd say, if you are the only person on your network, you must not have enough upload bandwidth OR this issue might be with simspeed.  What do you usually see for yourself there?

Yeah, a lot of people are having this problem. No known fix just yet x_x

I have almost the same upload speed and cause 0 lag in 5vs5s. Although once or twice a week in a game of any size I will spike for like 15 seconds, then be fine for the rest of the match.

So I suspect that isn't the cause
