Can the Regulus players help me out please?

My favorite DG so far is Regulus, but I am having issues playing him to the full extent of his abilities and I am hoping that a few of you might be able to help me play him a little better. While I am not brand new to the game, nor am I by any means a super player. And I just want to use this guy effectivly. While some other DGs are a bit easier to use, he has a certain style that I really like.

Here are some of my questions..

1. Most (not all) of the other DGs have some sort of AoE ability to help them farm creeps in the begining of the game. Often I find myself lagging behind in levels because I can't seem to get the creeps down as fast as others in the first few levels / tag multiple mobs at the same time to rake in the exp. My only real idea here is to take his mines right off the bat at 1st level, but then I tend to get rolled on by another DG if they show up at a meet point like a flag etc. What can I do to increase my creep killing in the starting levels yet not completely gimp myself should an enemy DG show up?

2. His snipe ability seems very weak in terms of damage and channel time. I find that often when I spy an enemy DG who is finaly below a certain HP threshold where snipe might be effective that by the time snipe goes off they are already dead from another source of damage. How am I supposed to use snipe effectivly when it does not deal out a significant damage portion? I mean what am I doing wrong? People say its fantastic but I can never get a kill with it. Is it just my timing or should there be something I should be looking for or doing to beef up the ability? Do +weapon damage items increase its base damage and make it viable?

3. I read and I see people talk about staying at range and firing on targets as you retreat etc, Is there an effective way to do this? How do you click to retreat to an area, retarget a DG, fire, and then click to keep retreating in an effective time so that the enemy DG does not catch up to you and beat you to death with your own limbs?..beyond stacking movement speed items?

4. I still have problems figuring out what he needs for equiptment. Getting the things I think he needs like some mana and speed for example, leaves him very squishy, yet if I go for some straight up health and armor stuff then I find myself running our of mana constantly and getting the snot pounded out of me while trying to stay at a distance. What kind of gear should I be looking for?

Those are may main concerns. I guess my biggest problem is the whole exp / creep thing. In almost every game I play I am L3 while everyone else is pushing 6 or 7. And then its just a slaughter and I have no hope of catching up.

Please help! I really love this DG and would really love to be effective with him. I understand he is a harder one to play, but I just really like his play style.. i think lol

Thank you in advance for your help!

1. You are weak early on. Reg shines later in the game, but the first few levels are tough. Don't go toe-to-toe without backup. Anyways, Reg has two choices for AoE: Mines and Angelic Fury. AF increases single target damage and adds a small AoE. Cap flags when you can, but watch out for opponents sneaking up or teleporting in.

2. No items increase spell damage. One thing to remember: Snipe does more damage the farther the target. Use it on someone just as they are running away behind their towers (Tracking Device is valuable for this), or to tip the scales of an evenly matched battle for your allies.

3. Movespeed, range, and a healthy dose of fast thinking. When a melee Demi gets in close, Reg is doomed.

4. Use your range as an advantage, get maybe one of each mana and health, and save up for the gloves that crit, Mageslayer artifact, or citadel upgrades depending on how the game is going. Just remember that your build should change depending on how the game plays.

these are great questions. alot of experienced players will have a variety of opinions on them but you're definitely asking the right questions. kudos.

i'm not a Regulus expert (my main DGs are Beast and Oak) but i'll offer some small advice. keep in mind that others know better than I do. hopefully my knowledge will be of some help anyway.

1. as Kitkun mentioned you will use either Mines or Angelic Fury to kill creep waves. Mines are costly in terms of mana so you will need to supplement with mana items even in the early game to be able to use these consistently. Angelic Fury has a lighter mana cost that is much more smoothly spread out in time.

there's a great trick using the favor item Blade of the Serpent with Angelic Fury to fully restore your mana bar in just a few shots. The activated ability on Blade (converts 75% damage done to mana) counts ALL the damage done so the AoE hits from Angelic Fury on a tightly packed creep wave will restore your entire mana pool very quickly.

Blade of the Serpent + Angelic Fury will help you level fast without having to buy any additional mana equipment. it will also boost your damage by a good amount. this leaves you more free to buy health or damage increasing equipment to better prepare for encounters with other DGs.

2. Snipe is a great finishing move. keep practicing. you'll get better at time it to get finishing blows or to weaken an enemy at the right time so your team-mate can go in and finish them easily. you're correct in thinking that its bad in terms of pure DPS though. you shouldn't use it just because you can, waste of mana. all about the timing.

its damage is based only on skill rank and distance from your target though. max damage is at max range so try to target enemies in adjacent lanes or enemies who are fleeing.

3. kiting requires lots of mouse-clicking. i don't know a shortcut command for it other than clicking a whole lot. its much easier to kite succesfully if you've got speed enhancing for yourself and slowing effects to use on your enemy. thats kinda obvious though, guess you knew that.

Boots (or Wand) of Speed is very good. the Maim passive skill is very helpful for this as well. some players take a Poisoned Dagger favor item for the slow effect to help their kiting. Mark of the Betrayer produces a very nasty 5 second slow on its target. Wyrmskin Handguards can proc a nasty slowing effect. there are many ways.

some players like to stack slowing effects as well. its possible to get a player's move speed down to almost zero if you stack 3+ slows on them at the same time.

4. there are alot of differing opinions on this so I won't get into specifics. i will however link you to a guide I wrote about which items are generally good. pick and choose from the good items based on what you need at the moment is the best advice I can give.

wow great info here! Thank you so much!

With regards to the mines as AoE for creeps.. is it me or do I not seem to get as much exp from using a mine as i do from killing something with normal shots? Maybe I am just missing it, I don't know. But I love the idea of using AF with the Serpant Blade.. thats a good one I will have to remember.

So snipe is not really an attack but more of an harrassment? use it to help allies or to nail fleeing enemies? Should use use it on the outset of a fight at all or just stick to angel mode and wait for an opportunity?

I like regulus when he gets a few leels under his belt, but getting those few levels are the hardest thing I have yet to do in the game. I will work on the clicking I guess..thats something i will just have to learn and get used to.

Thank you both for the info! i am going to go test some of it out now! heh heh I'll let you know how I do =)

For gaining XP in the early levels, check out this extremely useful thread:

http://forums.demigodthegame.com/354405

Note that you get XP for the enemy creeps dying if you are nearby, even if you don't kill them yourself so you can level just by hanging out with a good creep killing buddy. You don't get gold though, it's not a good strategy, but worth knowing. You can focus on the enemy DG while your buddy AoEs the creeps. You don't get XP from enemies dying to mines, except through just being near them when they die, same as when your buddy kills something. I.e. if your mines kill a creep and you're on the other side of the map, you get nothing. If you're nearby, you get something but only in the same way you'd get something if a tower killed them.

Alternately, you could just hide near the back and kill my UB with Snipe when I'm low on health. That seems to work for most Regulus' I play against. :annoyed:

You can also get "Wrath of God" favor, it's great for exping and occasional kill on low hp enemies.

1. What can I do to increase my creep killing in the starting levels yet not completely gimp myself should an enemy DG show up?

End of quote

I've never seen this as a problem. Level 1 Angelic Fury usually keeps me farming creeps nicely throughout the game. In fact, I often enough never update it to level 2 until well after experience leverl 10. I only use mines to farm creeps once they have priests or worse out in the fields, and by then, I usually have level 3 in mines.

2. How am I supposed to use snipe effectivly when it does not deal out a significant damage portion?

End of quote

I use snipe purely for supporting my other teammates. Either by softening the enemy before a battle and then putting him down as he tries to limp off the field. You do have to aggressively upgrade the skill levels in this, and stack damage increasing items, and even then, snipe will not matter much (if at all) very late in the game. But by then, you should have compensated with auto-attack skills and mines.

3. I read and I see people talk about staying at range and firing on targets as you retreat etc, Is there an effective way to do this?
End of quote

I would like to know this too. I've never managed to do any significant damage to another player,  by using the range of Regulus auto attack, even with the range upgraded. I upgrade the range mainly to be able to take on towers, and to be able to support other player out of AoE range. :)

4. What kind of gear should I be looking for?
End of quote

I buy the basic helm for mana, and then try to stack weapon damage increasing items. Lots of them. Regulus will always be squishy compared to the rest, so that is why you should either plan ahead with mines, or support the rest of your team.

Those are may main concerns. I guess my biggest problem is the whole exp / creep thing. In almost every game I play I am L3 while everyone else is pushing 6 or 7. And then its just a slaughter and I have no hope of catching up.
End of quote

That's probably because you are trying to kill other Demigods or hold flags too early in the game. Leave populated flags, and arrive at flags in time for the creep wave, so even if another player tries to harass you, you'll get a few exp points in.

These are my 2 cents anyway.

First 2 items to get:

  • Sacred Helm
  • Banded armour

Then I usually get Velmish Faceguard as well for mana boost required to use mine and AF.

After that I get either Heart of Life or Narmoth's Ring. I tend to get HoL first because it saves you so many time and so much time (pun intended). Then I get Narmoth's Ring, combined with Charm of Life gives me quite a good health boost.

With those you generally have no problem against other DG if you play smart. Perhaps get some kills too, to save for a Mage Slayer.

I generally don't get gloves because I found them to be not worth the 3k gold. But some people may prove me wrong. With the above items there's usually just enough money to save up to mage slayer, which I think is worth the wait. After that we can sell items to get gloves.

The following are favor items that may be worth considering.

Favor point items:

  • Charm of Life (This combined with Narmoth's Ring gives Regulus quite needed survialability)
  • Swift Anket
  • Blade of the Serpent (With this you don't virtually need expensive helms)
  • Staff of Renewal (-20% cooldown, this is for the mine build Regulus)
  • Poisoned Dagger (20% chance on hit to slow down enemy 25% for 8 sec - not as good as others but good for hit and runners)

Again, I would like to thank everyone for their input! There is some really great info and tips here!

I have played a few games now using some of the stuff talked about here and gotten a lot better. I am keeping up wuth the levels and doing fairly well with the geurilla tactics.

As far as the items go.. thats where I think I am having the most problems now. Mainly its what to buy and in what order. I know the use of favor items is a personal choice most times. But could someone talk about what basic gear they buy and at what levels etc? Like do you start off with the +25 gloves or do you go with some armor or helm or ? And at what point do you sell each for an upgrade? When its all said and done, what should my final armor set be?

And also is there a 'buy line' for artifacts and trinkets? WHich should come first? should i spend money on the gear or save up for a good artifact?

I seem to be going with a mainly Angel build, based around maim, mark of the betrayer and sniper scope. So far I tend to be leaning towards gear based around weapon damage.. does that sounds like the correct way to go?

Thank you all again for your help. I am loving this guy a lot and more and more as I get better with him!

Lol I just posted about items... thank you! This helped a lot!

I'd love to see a few more peoples input.. and I know its a lot to ask but maybe a break down of what to buy, when to sell it for an upgrade or something. The problem I am having is that with Reg it just looks like there is so many ways to go. With a caster you go mana as a primary.. with a melee you go armor and health.. but reg seems to be unique in that everything out there seems to be some kind of benefit, and I am having trouble sorting through them all to find the correct mix to make a yummy cake of wrecking.

=)

AoE is really unnecessary for farming.  Just shoot each creep once then focus on finishing them off and you'll get the gold for all of them.

Thats probably not the build you want to use.  Maim and Sniper Scope are not strong skills beyond 1 point in SS during the midgame to help take down towers.

There are two main builds.  The most common is to go mines and take mines as often as possible.  Take MoB also (need MoB in all builds IMO), at least some Snipe early to harass and you are good to go.  You can fill out the rest of your points with whatever you want.

The other is to go AF and Enhanced Attributes heavily (with points in MoB and 1 or so in Snipe) and auto attack things to death.

There are a lot of ways to do items, and much of it depends on the DGs that your opponent is using.  I'll let you know my generic item plan, but it can be modified by whats going on in the game and what enemy DGs there are.

Initially:

Scale Mail and Gauntlets of Brutality and a TP scroll (favor item is Swift Anklets)

Then:

Vlemish

Nimoth Chest Armor

Boots of Speed

After that I save up for Mageslayer

Obviously if things are going badly you will need to buy items before Mageslayer to not get rolled.  And yes, I know there is no Heart of Life in there.  I do better without getting it until after Mageslayer.  I dont know if this is going to work well for you since you need to know how to kill to make the saveup for Mageslayer a reasonable amount of time.  But one BIG hint is to use Snipe to pick up cheap assists.  That might be its best use - if your teammate is fighting some DG, make sure you get on the damage sheet by popping the enemy DG with a Snipe and you can get a lot of cheap assists that way.  By no means try and wait for the finish - just do some damage and take the assist.

This is for an auto attack Reg, which is what I normally use.  If you do a Mine Reg you will need more mana items and will probably need to get one intially (replace Gauntlets with Scaled Helm).

I'm not stacking HPs, which is against the trend that is going on right now, where people LOVE stacking HPs.  I feel that Reg is a skirmisher that is using speed and not HPs though, so I go speed and damage and dont worry too much about HP (plus I'm getting some HP from EA, which is 115 health per level of that).

OP if you have only played straight AF AA build I suggest you try to play mine build with MoB as well. That's also a fun build to play.

I actually had been solely playing wth mines, recently I tried to play straight AA especially with Blade of the Serpent which I can recently afford. With that you free up some cash at the start for gauntlets (since you virtually don't need mana items anymore, i.e. helms).

Basic BO for Cata. Banded Armor+tele+totem+mana potion

Cap either side flag then help cap middle flag or help contest. Go back to your side and finish off the creeps and possibly recap that flag. You are at level 2 or 2.5 from just that. Use snipe to wear down the opponent on your side or just the weakest DG on the field. 3 Snipes will bring most DG's down to low health if they didnt buy health items. Farm creeps on your side while occasionally recapping the middle. Pretty easy way to gain levels. Since this doesnt take much micro at all try to be watching the other side of the field a lot to see where a snipe can help turn the tide of the battle or to finish off a DG. remember 550 is top damage at level 1.

I always try to never waste mana on creeps because all Reg abilities are pretty expensive. Just wait that extra 3 seconds to finish them off.

There was a list on another forum here, don't have the link, that said mine damage isn't counted as Regulus's damage so if you kill with them you will get the same amount of experience as if a tower next to you killed something (less than normal) and much recduced gold.

Shouldn't affect experience as long as you are near. But my understanding is that you get zero gold. Could someobody who plays Reg more often confirm this?

Snipe makes no difference against feeders. If the DG was going to die anyway, Snipe is a waste.

Snipe is good against players who know what they're doing, and try to escape. Or, at least, they think they're escaping.

I highly reccomend this item too, although I think it's actually called "Heaven's Wrath" :P .

On maps where creeps bottleneck before they spread into their seperate lanes you can gain tons of levels by just killing them all with one blast (Cataract and Exile come to mind). It also effectively adds 250 damage to your snipe in an AoE, which is pretty awesome.

Also a tip if you do end up buying this favor item, if you want to hit creeps in the fog of war, watch for when your creeps spawn! The enemy creeps run at the exact same pace.

Hey Tarl, here's the strategy I use with regulus. I play single player mostly(I get a very high Lag on multiplayer), it works with hard and nightmare AI even if youre outnumbered against the opposing team.

Most people prefer to start out with scalem helm and banded armor I dont, your choice, I instead spend 500 on the first tower health upgrade, get a teleporter amulet or scroll and teleport to the furthest tower next to the fortress on the right or left side(I play on zikurat map mostly). If you time this move right you'll be able to capture two flags and be at level 2 before the first wave of creeps or other demigod show up.

Regulus has very liimited amount of health and mana at this stage, mine upgrade are useless. I go with snipe and range upgrade, the range upgrade is very important, you can start attacking towers right away without getting hit.

Now the trick here is to stay put at one of the tower in the center, out of the range of the opposing tower. the creep waves would clash with each other right in front of you. The most important thing is to stay steady, DONT INDIVIDUALLY ATTACK ANYONE, let Regulus auto-attack otherwise he'll lock onto a demigod and chase him behind the enemy tower resulting in death. Fall back to the other tower if the tower you're defending gets taken down. If you wanna level up faster you can use the angelic fury on level 3 to get splash damage but mana would severly limit your use. I would suggest waiting to get a snipe kills on the other end of the map, regulus snipe damage is pretty decent at the start and the mid point of the game. you should get the second point at level 4 if you decide to rely on snipe else go with mine upgrades but dont use them til the 2-3 mine upgrade. If you are forced to return to the health stone up to this point by any chance concentrate on buying the two helm that will fix regulus mana problem, you need the vlemish faceguard(1750) and plenor battlecrown (1500) to put your mana per second rate at around 30+. needless to say keep picking up any health left by dead demigods or if you have sedna on your team you can stand next to her to get an increased health rate, one of the priest from another demigod might heal you too, just stand in their way.

Now focus on maximising your mines, thats the strongest attack Regulus has. Shrapnel mines and the mark of betrayer are the only two things you'll need to win. Also get a narmoth's ring as soon as you can, its really helpful. Just try and stay at a distance from melee based demigods (UB, Oak etc.) and only attack the oppsing creep force from behind yours. One thing that you should focus on from here is maximising your attack speed, try getting above 60%(machinegun upgrade) add that with Ashkandor (18000) and it becomes a lethal combo. If it helps, Queen of thorns is the weakest Demigod even with Nightmare AI, you can attack her head-on most of the times.

Thats the beginning and mid-game strategy I use for Regulus, you can take out entire creep waves with a well placed mine attack, take off demigods trying to retreat and pretty much dominate. I have used this strategy against 5 hard and nightmare AI (3 hard and 2 nightmare)and still be able to get upto 50 kills in one game with 1 or 0 death, you can even stop upgrading your abilities after level 10-12 (after shrapnel mines and two mark of betrayers) and still dominate with this strategy. As a test you should always be atleast a level or two above any other enemy demigods, It should'nt be a problem if you follow the strategy. I usually end up with 100+ per second mana and health rates with 4x critical strike, enough to take on demigods next to their health stone.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you get stuck at any point.

Hi lordtarl

I see you are looking for some help with Regulus. I think I am decent with him (if the rankings mean anything, lol) and here are some of my opinions on how to play him better.

A: Mines are your best friend for gaining levels. I would recommend getting them. On top of that, they will deal a fair amount of damage to enemy demigods too if you lay the mine when they are trying to kill creeps and they are close enough to the mine to get injured. With the mines, you should be able to level quickly and get the other abilities you care about. I am not usre about getting "rolled" by other demigods, jsut harass them, and if they try to attack you, run to your tower.

A: First of all + damage items do not make it better. Snipe is good mainly for picking off a demigod who is running away. Also it does more damage the longer it travels. A level 1 snipe does 250 damage base, but does 500+ at max range. It is not really that useful as an offensive weapon IMO, more to just pick off demigods. It is also useful to help an ally win a fight.

A: In general I find increaseing your range (with sniper scope) and the maim ability to be VERY good for this tactic. It slows them down and gives you more of a buffer zone to shoot them.

A: I would say early game, be conservative with his mana. I would mainly use it for mines to level or snipe to help/kill. I would recommend getting lots of HP. Blood of the Fallen is a great favor item. Banded armor is also great. Unbreakable Boots will help with HP and mana.

Those are may main concerns. I guess my biggest problem is the whole exp / creep thing. In almost every game I play I am L3 while everyone else is pushing 6 or 7. And then its just a slaughter and I have no hope of catching up.

Suggestions: Don't engage enemy demigod. Time spend not creeping is wasted time. If you are constantly running back to the heal stone, stop getting hurt. Just throw mines on creeps when they come, at other times, hug your tower. Another favor item that might help you is Heaven's Wrath. It lets you kill an entire creep wave every 45 seconds, that should help your level issues. It also lets you do it anywhere so even if you are out of combat healing, you can still get experiance.

Please help! I really love this DG and would really love to be effective with him. I understand he is a harder one to play, but I just really like his play style.. i think lol

Last Things: Glad you like Regulus, he is my favorite. I hope these sugestions help you be more effective with him.

In dominate, I've found AoF is gives slightly better staying power at flags than mines on maps like Crucible.  But, if you are playing Dominate on Crucible, you gonna have a tough time any which way as Regulus.

There are some good ideas in this post and I thought that I would contribute because I believe I am very good with Regulus.

My favorite favor Item are the anklets I believe in moving fast so that I can watch the map to get in position to snipe players on the far side of the map, harrass players on my side of the map and be able to get away before i start taking dmg all game long.

First off as far as creeping early on some times I will use mines depending on my mana but most the time i will save my mana for snipe and watch the map. once you have your teir 4 helm then mines are great for creeping. I dont like Angelic fury untill late in the game because I have to many other things to put skill points into and I think its a waist.

Sniping is for sure a science you for sure dont ever want to do it up close your auto attack will do more dmg and you stay mobile. At a distance you can try to snipe when they are near death but for the most part I watch the minimap and when I believe someone is going to have the potential to get low i will get into position and fire when they are at 30% health and often time get the killing blow because they are lower when it goes off.

Mines are a huge portion of reg's dmg so use them often

my build is 1.snipe 2. range (only time i get this but great for towers and harrassing)3. mines 4. mines5.motb 6.snipe.then from here it is a mix of mines snipe and at higher lvls then i get angelic fury but I think it is not worth it early on. I never get maim with my play style but I do get the boots of speed fairly early to go with my anklets.

Items are pretty much what other people put the common helm chest start, often time vlemish next sometimes i get unbreakable boots (but not often with him), then it preferences sometimes i go nimoth chest and boots of speed then hol, I do like to upgrade to crit chest and gloves if I have the money.

hope this help and good luck with regulus

One item i found VERY useful was the Assassin Favour item Blade of the Serpent, +400 mana, +25 weapon Damage, On Use: 75% of your damage convert to mana 100% of the time for 10 seconds. As a new player I found this cheap favour item realy useful for farming at the start. Throw down mines, use trinket, regen all your mana.

Obviously later on it's sub par but for a new player it's pretty useful. I also found the Parasite Egg really useful for taking out generals, fire it off on to say erebus and let rip, all his minions hit the dirt pretty fast, and the best part is this only takes an item slot rather than an inventory slot. Plus the passive +weapon Damage stacks nicely with the Blade of the Serpent.

Another good cheap item is the Nature's Reckoning, 10% chance with ranged to strike enemies nearby with 250 lightning damage. In use its enemies near the the target you hit, not near you, making it great for ranged clearing of groups. And for only 1500 gold it's pretty nice early on.

Obviously I start with the Banded Armour and Gauntlets of Brutality, for the Hp and Damage boost. By the time i have those other items, im doing a fairly nice amount of damage AoE wise. I always buy up mines and sniping, tracking device when I can and ofcourse the +health skill occasionally. Start with mine spamming, it's alot better than trying to use the bow alone, if you have to, get in close with grunts to chuck mines onto them, never get in close with DGs unless you're a high level or with friends, you wont survive. As for snipe, I don't start using that until at least rank 2 or unless i'm at maximum range, it will so rarely kill at level 1.

Erm, can't think of anything else, haven't been using him that long, but so far this combination or methods has won me more games than any other.

I'm quite new to the game so take the following with a grain of salt, but I do win most pub matches with this build.

I find getting Angelic at level 1 is the most useful, its splash damage means easy creeping from level 1, and the mana cost never goes up so pumping Angelic is great for auto-attack builds.

I also use Blade of the Serpent just because using this one item means you don't have to use ANY OTHER MANA ITEMS AT ALL, and can focus on pure damage/attack speed/movement/hp whatever you want.

I used to play with mines but lately I've been playing completely without mines, the damage just isn't reliable enough and with Boots of Speed, Wand of Speed and Maim/Snipe I can gank people easily, and also escape any encounters that I stuck around in for too long.

By late game, with Mage Slayer and Orb of Veiled Storms my attack speed goes through the roof and I rely soley on MotB and autoattack for my damage, while still sniping out of range enemies.

I do have a question though, is it better to get the last 2 levels of Sniper Scope, or get Enhanced Attributes instead?

Also, is Deadeye even useful? It seems that the tiny 3% chance and 0.3 sec stun really doesn't seem worth it at all, yet a lot of builds include it, why?

3% for an attack you don't use that often compared to Motb, auto shot or in my case mines isn't worth it in my opinion. That point could be better spent.

My Build is usually:

  • Snipe 4
  • Angelic Fury 1 (for the Aoe rather than the damage)
  • Tracking Device
  • Sniper Scope 3
  • Mark of the Betrayer 1 (for the slowing effect)
  • Mines 4
  • Enhanced Attributes 6

Unlike most builds that use Maim, I rely on the mines and motb to slow my enemies down.

It's debatable.  If you have invested points and items into attack speed then you get an auto-interrupt every 3-5 seconds - against Generals with their almost instant-cast shields and heals especially this can be very good.

Some random points -

On Snipe - in pub games it's useful for assists and last hits.  Once you get beyond pub games though you'll find that good players aren't sloppy enough to get caught out by an enemy snipe.  So at advanced levels you use it early and often to support your ally's pushes and to whittle down tower health.  It's an incredible tool if you use it this way, and you don't really need to put more than a point or two in the ability to do that.  Maybe try using Snipe this way for 5 games and see how it works for you...Staff of Renewal is a really good item if you are playing a "snipe-pusher".

I'm not a big fan of Angelic Fury builds unless you are fighting solo against other ranged DGs or playing a bad pub group.  Against someone like UB or an Oak with good micro you will really miss the points you could have been putting in Mines and Mark of Betrayer, and you won't be getting the artifacts that make AF godlike.

Good Reg favor items include Heaven's Wrath, Speed Anklet, Poisoned Dagger, Furious Blade, and Staff of Renewal.  I like HoL for the mana, you can also go with Serpent's Blade but that's wasting a favor slot, imo...(once the nerf comes down I'll re-evaluate)

@PurpleFantum - you don't need more than one point in Maim, but it's a good investment even with Mark and Mines
