HP and Mana Consumables

Ways to use your Gold effectively

Im starting this thread because Im starting to appreciate the value of consumables a lot and want to know how other good players use them. Im just gona give my experience with Health pots and TB.

I've been playing TB extensively lately and found out that using health pots gives him a lot of staying power and helps the team a lot too. I always pick the BotS for mana and thus I don't need any mana helm through out the game (I'm very carefull not wasting my spells). For starting items i take banded armor and 2 health pots. I can stay in my lane until lvl 7 with this setup (and lvl very fast).

When I go to base for first time I always have money to buy Currency 1 and Priests for my team and pick unbreakable boots + 2 health pots. If Im lucky and got some assists or a lucky kill or two I buy any necessary upgrades (tower health + damage or creep armor).

Now I rarely (sometimes never) need to go back to the base again until war score 8 to get creep upgrades (which I can afford by myself) and try to end the game asap (around me lvl 13). If Im forced to go back to base after i used my pots I will just go heal, and grab 2 others pots and TP back to my lane.

So this is my item setup for the match: banded and unbreakable + health pots. If Im getting harrassed by 2 DGs most of the time I will get the nimoth chest and its all. This allows me to save gold and spend it on any necessary citadel upgrade, and allowing my teammate to spend their money on strong items (mageslayer, godpalte, bulkwar ...).

I also know some other good sedena players who use mana pots for the first 10 lvls and can stay in a lane for that long.

I think mana and health pots and very cost effective in the sense that they are cheap and pay themselves back if u're carefull on when to use them. and also they allow for cheap builds (like mine) and thus encourage you to spend a lot more gold on citadel.

Please share any comments or strategies on other ways to optimize money usage through the use of consumables.

I find that picking when and in what order to use your consumables can make all the difference. As Reg doesn't have an interupt, you can use one safely against him. However, when facing the others - the moment they see you moving your hands and not moving, they're going to interupt you if possible. Take advantage of this and use a different consumable to the one you actually want to us to get them to blow their interupt, and then you can safely use the right consumable.

a slam rook will 1 shot you before you get to use a potion if you get careless ^^

It's true if your not carefull when you want to use them you will die. but the advantage with TB is that his is ranged and I only use the small health post because they have a small cast time and I use them safely in combat.

Very true, if i have a robust health pot I will usually fake the cast of a TP if my enemy has and interrupt before I use it. But I rarely pick the big pots and If I do, I will use them between battles.

The way I play TB is about map control and support rather than DGs Killing. I harrass my opponents with my ranged skills and AA and support my team with my debuffs. So I usually finish battles with more than half my HP.

I can make a rook back off with getting in the range of his hammer. if he gets too close I will retreat to my tower (can really hurt when upgraded) and wait for him to try to heal with his transfer and then I interrupt him.

this, if you play an assasin. monks if you are a general. use the 2nd potion for baiting, you can create alot of kills from it.

the only time i get mana pots is for erebus in the early game. tbh most of the time its just a waste of gold.

alot of ppl also run back to citadel to get more mana/HP/1 shitty item, when u can wait just 1 minute and let it all regen back. you are wasting valuable xp because of that.

random potion drop from killing demigods is better than having to buy one(abuse it), since everyone agrees that it is such a GOOD thing to have in this game. >_>

Couldn't agree more. Running back just to heal or just to buy a teleport scroll is such a waste.

It is a good thing, I just wish the potions/scrolls could be collected for later use rather than used on pickup.

My starting items as Sedna are:

BotF

Scaled Helm

Capture Lock

Combat Mana Potion

At this point in the game, a single small mana pot refills my Mana. And since Mana = Health as Sedna, picking up that one potion doubles my time on the field before I have to take my first trip back to the base.

From that point on, I will buy Robust Rejuvenation Elixirs if I have some extra cash. At 450 gold they're a little expensive, but for most of the game they will completely refill your health and mana. Great for staying out on the field longer. With a 3 second cast time they're risky at best to use in combat, but I have done so successfully.

(works on any demigod)

starting items -> BotF + Banded Armor + Scaled Helm

800g -> back to base -> Scalemail + Gauntlets of Brutality

1800g + war score 3 -> back to base -> Currency I

a winning formula ^^

That's so true. I would rather stay behind my tower and get xp than go back to base. This is actually when HP pots turns out to be useful in case an enemy DG shows up while ur still regenerating. Eventually he will be the one retreating to his base if he doesn't carry any HP pot.
tbh most of the time its just a waste of gold.

True if u don't use them to your advantage. I found that for short matches they are very cost effective since other items don't pay themselves back. For longer games, it might be worth it to invest in more items. But still, takin a potion behind your tower when ur enemy has wasted his interrupt and thinks he can kill u is just fantastic. Pots have netted me many kills that ppl didn't expect, so I don't think they are a waste of gold. I also find them useful for taking down the opponent citadel. After I upgrade my creeps, I will just spend all the money I got left on HP pots and go destroy that citadel in one push.

I have mixed feelings about consumables like health and mana.  If you have plenty of gold, sure, by all means reserve an inventory slot for this.  However, if you have that much gold, then you probably can just start stacking health/mana items and regeneration stuff.  In early game, I choose a good favor item and then go out and fight until I can buy a nice piece of equipment like the Hauberk of Life or the Vlemish Faceguard.  Any gold left over I invest in flag locks and teleport scrolls, which I think are more useful than health/mana potions.  To me, there is no shame in slinking back to the health crystal after a good stint of fighting.  I play as QoT nowadays, so I believe in constantly upgrading equipment, idols, etc.   If I get in a spot where I am forced to take note of my low health/mana, then I take this as a reminder that I need to do some upgrading anyway so I'll usually teleport to the base and take care of business.

I find that in a serious melee fight or when you are being pursued by a fast UB, Sedna, Oak, or LB, you just don't have time to quaff a potion.  And if you do (and don't get disrupted), the new hitpoints can be beaten off of you really fast in some instances.  Also, waiting around on the battlefield for a minute--which is actually a long time--for low health to slowly regenerate can get you sniped dead by Regulus or teleport ambushed. Take it from someone whose seen it all before.

But ultimately, it's whatever works for you.  I just tend to use consumables in a limited way for health and mana.  If I do buy one, it is always the Robust Rejuvenation Elixir which gives health and mana.
