I was totally shocked and disgusted by todays events. I cannot begin to express my outrage at the people who perpetrated this evil act. I hope the U.S. find these people and deal with them in a way that befits the crime.

My heart goes out to all the victims and their families.
This was not only a attack on the USA, it was an attack on all democratic societies that these cowardly terrorists despise.

Hum, I can find a whole big lot of names to describe the people who did that, and none of them are nice. But I must say that "coward" is not one of them. Evil, animals, blood thirsty, machiavelic, spawn of Satan, ok, but not coward. When I first heard it from Bush, I didn't understand why the chopice of that word, and I still don't. Anyway, it is trivial really.

Oh, and please let's try to avoid speculation and racism until we know who did it. Sure, some extremist Palestinians could have done it, some extremist orthodox jews could gave too, Afganistan muslims, Cubans, Russians, Serbs, or any other belligerant people in this world, or even another American home boy like in Oklahoma City.
Tie will tell, and the perpetrators will be punished, that's for sure.

Wow... Speechless is a good word to describe me for most of the day, which is rare. As we watched on TV in school this morning, it appeared to be a horrific accident... Then, another plane crashed into the WTC, and it suddenly seemed to be something far more sinister. Next, the headline "Explosion reported at the Pentagon." At this point, several students are becoming increasingly upset and worried. For the rest of the day, we watched as buildings collapsed, fires burned, people died, and heroes were made... Truly unbelievable.

As I sit here and think about it, I wonder what is to come next. The death toll is certain to be at least four, if not five figures... With thousands and thousands more grieving their loss. How I see it, we will go on, but with much pain...

I, too, have heard it described as our generation's Pearl Harbor. I sincerely hope not. Pearl Harbor began the U.S. involvement in the largest war in history. I do not want to see that destruction repeated. While I feel retaliation is necessary, I don't believe we need to start a large war to get our revenge.

I've said this a few times today... My heart goes out to all touched by this tragedy... Not just the dead, wounded, and their families, but everyone... The EMTs, charging into the carnage to help, with the images of it permanently etched into their memories... The bystanders who helped them, and experienced the same... The people who barely escaped with their lives... And indeed, those who, tonight, aren't sure whether they'll awake to order or chaos tomorrow morning, all over the world... We all need to pull together, to be strong, and to be resolute. We will continue. The world will go on. It must, and we must... My two cents.

My heart and deepest condolences are extended to the families, friends and victims of todays tragedy. This comes to a great shock to our nation and other nations that are close to us. Its times like this the nation will come together to show how strong we are. We can overrcome many difficult obsticals together. With each others support, we can certainly attempt to piece together what has been lost in our great nation. Free Trade will never be the same after this day. The incident is certainly one of great magnitude, I surely hope all shall be joined in piecing back what has been lost in each and ever one of us today. Let us give thanks that our lives have been spared, and let us give thanks that this great nation is prepared for what may come. Thank you my fellow Americans and God Bless.

A very upsetting and interesting two messages were relayed to me today in a chat. These seem to hit very close to home.

-----Message 1-----
"In the City of God there will be a great thunder,Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb. The third big war will begin when the big city is burning" - Nostradamus 1654

-----Message 2-----
The flights that were Highjacked were from United and AA, they were numbered as follows:

11, 93, 175, and 77

11 = Today's Date
9+3 = 12 = Tomorrow
1+7+5 = 13 = Thursday
7+7 = 14 = Friday
Hopefully this is a coincidence and the terrorists can't add. but if this is correct there will either be acts of terrorism every day for the next few days or a grand event the last day.

following in Karlie's footsteps I will just add a quicklink to a discussion board about Nostradamus.

Go Read

I'm no genius at this stuff so I am just hoping this link works properly.

As a former (9.5 years) Navy puke and a dependent of a (23.5 years) Air Force Officer, I would like to say that maybe now the US will recognize that their Military deserves respect, and should take pride in them. I've watched for years as liberals cut, and cut and cut benefits and positions to "scale down".
'A strong offense is the best defense'. When we again show ourselves as a strong united nation, we will see the terrorists as less of a threat. During and through WWI and WWII, Americans pulled together, and showed their resolve. Why is it that it takes a catastrophic event to re-unite us?

Thoughts for you to peruse..

So . . . what good would a bigger military have done, exactly? Could the US Army have prevented this? Or the Navy? Would they have detected the terrorists before they acted? Sure, it could mean a faster and bigger retaliation - but nobody seems to know who did it for sure yet, and maybe they never will.

The only thing I can see that *might* have helped stop this before it happened would be a better intelligence service. But even then, there are limits. Already, it's not really possible to increase security beyond what is current without inconveniencing a lot of people, or costing a *lot* of money (and airlines aren't going to pay - most of them are almost broke).

It may be that the risk of this is one of the costs of having such a free society. If so, the only way to stop it happening again would be by making everyone in the world like America and it's people enough they wouldn't want to attack or by taking decisive action against the people who really don't like the US, *before* they make their move. And to do that, you need to know who they are, not that you can blow them up if they tell you.

GreenReaper,

By no means were my comments to suggest that a stronger military would have prevented this, terrorism is terrorism-unpredicatable. However, passive response often begets more aggression. We have been (in the US) a passive nation for many years, as we think of ourselves as the 'holier-than-thou' keepers of civil liberties.

If we had been more of a nation of 'lets all be one and like everyone else' we would never have become an independent nation (from England) in the first place.

Might and power are often very unpleasant topics, but it is the law of nature (or the 'circle of life' if you prefer) that the strongest will and most often do survive.

If the threat of military offensive actions were greater, perhaps the terrorists behind this would have thought twice - or perhaps the country harboring them would have thought twice, about harboring them. If a bully picks a fight with you in the school yard (as I teach my kids), you should walk away. If he follows you home, you do your best to avoid a fight. When he attacks you, you defend yourself. If it happens all over again the next day, you attempt to beat the crap out of him. At some point it becomes do-or-die, and you must fight back.

There are no words which can convey meaning enough to comfort or relieve those affected during dark times such as these, but I know that because there are shadows there must also be a light.

Let us be a light for one another.

It is very sad to hear the sudden attack toward the WTC and the Pentagon. I give my deepest sympathy and prayers to the victims and their families. May God Bless Them.

The worst thing I have ever seen in my life. Shock, disbelief, horror, outrage. I hope I never see anything this awful ever again. God help the victims. The world has been changed forever. God help us all.

This Canadian supports the United States 100% and any action they deem necessary.

God Bless America

I was laid-off 2 months ago from a company that had offices in the WTC. Due to more down-sizing, they moved from those offices. Who ever thought that being let go would save your life?

But on a sad note. I spoke with my former boss today. She said that the company did have a small training meeting scheduled for today on the 106th floor. Some one in the local office spoke with a woman just after the first plane hit. She said that everyone would get out and call back. No one heard from them again.

It has been said that everyone knows someone that was impacted from today's events. In fact the whole world has been impacted. No one did anything back in 1993 when the bomb went off in the parking garage. It was "let's get back to business as usual." We see results of that decision.

"If you want peace, you must prepare for war." That may sound like backwards logic, but it is the only way to truly live. Or in other words, "The needs of the many out-weigh the needs of the few." Our servicemen need to be supported for the work they do. They give up a lot to make sure their country can continue to enjoy peace. It is exactly because they had so many cuts that Terrorism has been allowed to fester and grow like a cancer on the world.

In all this tradegy, unsung heros are being created. I applaud the staff of Stardock for DOING something positive. We should all do something that helps. That is the real power of America. That is the real power of any country hit by terrorism.

My prayers are with the vicitims (that is all of us too). May God grant us peace through positive personal action. (If not you, then who?)

I'd like to add one more comment. If any of you US servicemen or women are out and about in my town (and Police/Fire/EMT off duty)(Anchorage, AK) in dress Uniform, and I see you - I'll be happy to buy you a drink!

First of all, my deepest condolences to anyone who may be a victim of this horrifying incident.

Well, I think no matter where you are in the world you have a lot to think about, especially if your country is allied to America. I know my country [Australia] is and altohugh we're not directly affected, we are certainly obliged to be involved if there is a conflict. That puts us directly in danger. I just hope Bush is rational about the whole incident, personally i don't trust the guy, but i guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

Shit everything looks so different since i saw that report last night....

I would like to send my deepest condolences to the people injured and died in that TRAGIC accident. Even as I watch the news from the Philippines, I'm deeply in shock. I'm a Filipino, but I could feel the intense emotions people had experienced. I believe the whole world (except for those bullshitting cowards) is in deep sympathy with the American people.

I wish that will be the last time. I wish the terrorism should be put to halt. This is unbearable.

By no means do I intend to minimize the tragedy that happened... but I am thankful for one thing... that there were no nuclear weapons involved...
