Forgive me if this is a stupid question. But is there a way for DesktopX to detect if the user is idle and for how long?

No....but my wife tosses something at me if I fall asleep in my chair....that seems to work pretty well

You could probably do it using the mouse movement tracker. If your mouse doesnt move for say, 8 minutes, then the action occures. Never tried it though.
