New Trade Goods Approach

I lost my first game towards the end yesterday (always lose in the beginning)...

Basically, war broke out and trade dried up... and I was spending WAY too much money on trade goods.

You definitely can't lease like you used to... only essentials should be bought.

My new strategy for things like Diplo Translators (that I never trade) is let somebody else build them, and then buy for cash... much cheaper.

Yes, I have also observed that it is cheaper to buy the license using a long term payment from another race than to lease it via Mitrosoft.

That's a good approach if you are not concerned with score (you get points for TGs), if you are on Maso (TGs are worth nuts for trade) or if you want the TGs for its powers rather than for trade.

yep yep,

has anyone noticed that the second option Terran Manufacturers??? is ridiculously overpriced? I think you end up paying more in total than for the third option.

it's a good idea to corner Translators or Grav Accs for their power.

Although if you do get it by United builders and sell it immediately to the other races, you can get quite a profit. Mostly I go for tech though.

Definitely not what I've seen. In fact, the second one is often cheaper than buting it outright (1st one), AND it's spread out over time, so even better!

Of course, I just remembered, the prices of the four options relative to each other changes as you make progress into the item. In other words, if you have made no progress into the item, option one is always the cheapest, but once you get about half way through an item, the second option become cheaper. Truthfully, I don't know how the 3rd and 4th compare as you make progress on the item, since I learned pretty early that neither one is ever the cheapest. It is possible that when no progress has been made on the item, the 2nd costs more than the 3rd. But eventually it's the cheapest.
