a little help for a new player please

Hello,

I've had bought Demigod for quite a while ....missing the fact, that my old PC couldn't handle it at all (or better I assumed it should somehow work at lowest settings - which it didn't really)

Now a new system arrived making me able to play it at highest settings eventually.

Though...while it's all good fun and I certainly will improve there is a little frustration: I'm not exactly used to getting my a** handed over at easy settings in any game. not at all.

Maybe that's not exactly right, but I played the Tournament now twice and "won" every single challenge (means I was part of the winning team) but not a single time in those 16 battles I managed to get the highest points.
At the end I was 2nd in my first attempt and 3rd in the 2nd. Now...I tried to learn after my 1st failure and started reading the handbook and some guides here and "et voila!-I found my mistake". I had completly missed in the first round that the shop offers also stuff beside potions. I could buy equipment and stuff - certainly that made all the difference in the first round. Also I had missed that I could learn personal skills. And I didnt know about teleport scrolls. All taken together victory was certain to me - or so I thought.

The result was though that I spend much more time away from the front and I finished the tournament even worse. Most often I had the lowest points in the winning team.

My main concerns are:

- every single game I seem to be the only member of my team who buys Citadel upgrades. Great - I help my team to win, but they get the beneficials also and get to use them much longer than me, as they don't waste time/money for that.

- At the end I'm usually a real powerhouse and wade through the late game enemies. But it seems that my adorable teammembers get the necessary stuff done early in the game in order to secure themselves those precious points.

In short: I'm looking for some advice on how to dominate the other Demigods at the easy game level - as they should have a serious disadvantage to me anyway. which makes me feel all the worse ... ;-)

What should I do esp. in the early stages of a game?

thanks in advance!

The single player will help you learn the mechanics of the game but won't train you for multiplayer.

So your goal for now should be to learn the equipment, citadel upgrades and 1 demigod.

I would recommend learning (pick one) beast, oak or erebus.  Play that one demigod a lot until you are comfortable with it.

There are multiple guides in the strategy section, read the guides for build strategies.  (I recommend staying away from minion builds for oak/erebus for now)

Save your favor points until you can get blood of the fallen (BoF)

Recommended "universal" basic gear - you can wear more than 1 piece of the same gear (ie. two pairs of boots, two helms etc.)

Banded Armor

Scaled Helm

Unbreakable boots

Vlemish Faceguard

Plenor battlecrown (only really useful if you have scaled helm or vlemish faceguard equipped)

Nimoths Chestpiece

Narmoths Ring

Citadel upgrades: (these need to be purchased in every game)

Fortify structure 1 (asap)

Currency 1 (right when you hit warrank 3 - 1620 war score)

Once you reach war rank 8 you can get creeps:  Priests, angels, catapultsari  (your team needs to wait to purchase all 3 of these until the team has the gold to purchase all 3 at once - in most situations)

Then at warrank 10 - giants

(it is also beneficial to upgrade armor + attack for creeps)

Ignore most of the other citadel upgrades.(at least for now)

Best consumable items (please keep in mind that consummables are a 1 time use so dont go overboard in purchasing them.  I don't recommend health / mana pots)

Teleport scrolls - always try to keep 1 on you - only use when necessary

Flag locks

Sigils - these are a game staple.  Learn how to use them (usually towards the end of the fight in an effort to either stay alive or get enough health to take out your opponent)  - in online games expect your opponent to have one of these.

that should get you started bro !

Once you feel more comfortable, you can walk over any difficulty ai even in the beginning.  They will often follow too far into towers, so just port over and kill them before they die to towers.  Don't buy early citadel upgrades.  Now, in multiplayer, your team needs to get those upgrades, because they are beneficial for the team.  AI on the other hand don't need currency.  The other team also won't buy citadel upgrades beyond FS1 and maybe priests for the first ~30-60 minutes.  Instead, use the money you put into there to get items for yourself.

Anyway, the best thing you can do early game is to run around constantly getting flags and killing creeps.  Keep 1 teleport on you for ai on the other side, and learn how to goad the ai on your side into overpursuing you into towers.  Or just straight up kill them.  Don't waste a lot of money on potions or locks.

oh yea, sorry my response was for mainly multiplayer - 4nana makes some good comments as well.

Alot of it will come as you get more experience with the game.  A couple of good demigods to start out with - try unclean beast and erebus.

Generally speaking, focus on 2 citadel upgrades early game -  fs1 (available at war rank 1 - this regenerates your towers - 600 gold) and currency 1 (available at war rank 3 - gives you extra gold per second - 1800 gold).  If you are talking about single player, I strongly suggest you get those upgrades yourself.  If you are talking about MP, then you should ask EARLY if someone else can get cur1.  It is VERY important to get that as close to war rank 3 if possible as it increases your income.

Good starting items - if you are unclean beast, I suggest buying banded armor and scaled helm.  You will want to get a favor item that increases your HP.  Blood of the Fallen will be your best friend, but if you don't have enough favor for it yet, just choose another one that gives you a lower hp boost.  If you are erebus, start by buying monks for yourself.  They heal you and your teammates over time.

Learn when to run!  This is the most important thing in demigod - and to know when to run, you often need to know what each demigod can do (who can still hit me when I am X distance away and so on).  Good simple rules in MP - if you see 2 enemy dgs coming at you and you are alone, BACK UP.

Download and install this mod:

http://forums.demigodthegame.com/396054

This will make the AI play a much closer approximation to a human opponent. The way the AI is programmed out of the box is like practicing tennis to get ready to play football. With this mod, it is like playing high school football to get ready for the NFL, but at least it is the same sport.

With this, your teammates will buy all of the necessary upgrades, but so will the opponents. Your allies will also select from a few pre-programmed standard builds that are a lot more like what people really play. It will be more challenging at first, but at least it won't be like learning a whole new game when/ if you decide to play online... which you should because that is the only reason to play this game more than a dozen times.

Good luck! It's a great game if you stick to it.

Oh, and if any of the above guys gives you advice, here or in-game, take it! Trust me, they know what they are talking about.

Pretty much anyone who is still posting on the forums has been playing for a looong time.
