bootskin hangs my win2kpro!!

Hi there!
Yesterday I installed bootskin and downloaded half a dozen skins. I shut the system down.
Today, I started the system only to stare at a still bootskin that loads after traditional boot skin has been 1sec on. The system then hangs completely! It never even shows the "loading bar".
I am now accessing this board via an Apple iBook.
Can someone pls help and tell me at least how to uninstall bootskin? I can access the files if I boot up with another win2kpro install that doesn't connect to the net anymore that I left there, never had a problem before...
Oh, btw, it was beta1 I installed... can it be the .bootskin extension problem? But I must 1st unfreeze my machine. Any help would be dearly appreciated...
Thanks!

hmm. there was another topic close to this before. The solutions presented involved making sure that you didn't have another bootscreen program like bootxp installed and making some changes to your bios settings. My suggestion is that if it doesn't work, uninstall it with the other copy of win2k and leave it with the normal bootscreen until a new version of bootskin comes out. Look around for the other thread and it might help.

I'd just use the ibook if I had one

Thanks a bunch Travis!
I think I read bits of that thread, I'm going to look for it. If there are instructions for uninstalling bootskin from a different OS-same version I'll do it still instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Re ibook it's an oldie but goldie [tangerine] - small 12" screen and slow processor/HD... but hey it works!

ppl pls help [thanx again T]

sorry I don't know how to uninstall bootskin from another os. I am sure its possible, but will involve some registry changes (I think). You're welcome.

Hit F8 right before the boot Screen and it will by-pass into safe mode.

Sure...in bios 'Disable' Virus check on boot-up and where it has 'Stop on' (it will probably say 'Stop on all errors except Keyboard' change it not to stop on any errors...save settings and re-start....let me know if it boots with Bootskin still applied.

Let me know

AMIBIOS.... ...click on each category in the bios until you see those two settings. Do notchange anything else.

Anti-Virus

When this icon is selected from the Security section of the WINBIOS Setup main menu, AMIBIOS issues a warning when any program (or virus) issues a Disk Format command or attempts to write to the boot sector of the hard disk drive. The settings are Enabled or Disabled.

The only thing I can think of is "S.M.A.R.T. for Hard Disks" with enabled/disabled options, that in the advanced setup section. But what is S.M.A.R.T for hardisks beats me
Travis - you're referring to winbios, well... where's that? Sorry...

Its the ui of AMIBIOS or at least most versions. If you don't have it your bios just got a lot more confusing

This is the AMIBIOS my pc uses, you can find it on page 26 of this manual http://www.amptron.com/manuals/M810DLM4/810Ds52C.PDF . Mind you, I haven't checked if that's the motherboard my PC has...

Ok...there is a way to do it thru DOS, but for any number of reasons I don't recommend it. Having said that, change your bios to that the CD is your 1st boot and put your 2K Pro CD in. If it allows, (and it should) do a repair, if not install over current version. I have never done this with 2K Pro, so I can't say with any certainty that you won't lose your files in doing this. If it doesn't ask for a full disk format then I think your saved files will be there. When it's done with repair and re-boots, go back into bios and change 1st boot back to Hard drive. There is one thing you have to keep in mind...if your files survive there is a remote chance that your revised boot screen may also survive. The boot program in itself doesn't matter. If you can get into the system simply change back to 'Default' in Bootskin program.

Hey...one thing...when you hit the F8 at the end of post (prior to logon screen...you got a blinking cursor???

...you should not see a cursor since the OS hasn't loaded anything except the keyboard prior to the boot screen. You need to hit the key repeatedly during the post to get it to work before the Boot Screen.

Hya! Done the repair quite a few hours ago to no avail. Will try the install over procedure.
Re F8 my comment was that after entering safe mode it just hung with a blinking cursor.
It's 20 past 6am here so I think I'll get back 2 u tomorrow to let you know.
