I've been using it since this afternoon and like it very much. It seems noticeably faster than the beta versions and 5.5. I wonder what happened to the "personal bar" though. I thought that was a nice feature to have with the ever increasing popularity of MSN messenger. Haven't had any crashes, issues, problems yet.

Ie6setup.exe chokes here on my W2k system when downloading the Media Player component (says it can't find it on the server). Judging by posts in the Microsoft newsgroups, I'm not the only one with this problem.

Damn I hate that you can't download and install later!!

Wasn't overly keen on the beta, but this version is just great. Noticeably faster, and solved all the QuickTime/Embedded media problems I've been having with 5.5/6 beta.

I broke down and downloaded it. I know I'm weak. I chose the Custom install and didn't select WMP so I can't comment on that. The personal bar does seem to be gone. I only tried it briefly in Beta, so I can't say I miss it. I am liking IE6 though... so far!

1) Smart Tags are gone.
2) Cookie Control
3) Does not turn on the task manager and MSN Messenger on Install, startup. The Beta did this
4) Lock down feature for toolbars.
5) Quicktime works
6) Did I mention the cookie controls....

Well then Bill,

1. Good riddance
2. Good
3. Say what?
4. More confusing stuff, what does that mean?
5. Quicktime is evil
6. Excellent

...but I'll stick to Mozilla anyway. Is there any chance I can install it next to previous versions of IE? I hate it how IE overwrites the old version.

i just installed it......i have to say that as far as 'running speed' goes, it's 3 times faster that IE 5.5 !!!!!

....a general improvement over 5.5 in my opinion!

hmm this is the first time I did not jump on the band wagon, I'm still on IE5 unsure if I want to move up yet...

crae: Normally, when you install a new version of IE, there is an uninstall to go back to your previous version. I don't know if that's the case with IE6, since I'm still using the XP version, but I would think so.

For us web designers, no being able to able concurent versions of IE installed in a big pain in the buttom.
I guess I'll stick to IE 5.5 because I want to make sure the pages I build are compatible with what most people use...

ahem: "no being able to able concurent" = "not being able to install concurrent"

Note to LiteSteppers.
Be sure to install this while in Explorer, not while in LiteStep. It donna like installing under Litestep. After installing just switch back to LiteStep (like real quick!!).

The beta versions turned on the Task Scheduler, I assume to check for updates. MSN Messenger would also load at start-up, all very annoying. Now in Customize Toolbars you can check "Lock Toolbars". This prevents the toolbars from moving around when you resize IE, or from dragging them accidently. Quicktime is evil, but the sad thing is a great deal of multimedia is still Quicktime only! I tried Mozilla a few points back and wasn't that impressed. I've heard things have gotten considerably better though. I will probably try it again soon to see how far they have come.

IE6 does save your previous version and I tried going back in beta and it worked well getting me to 5.5. Concurrent versions! This is Microsoft remember... Where only the end user and the bottom-line matter. It would be nice though to see them put out previous versions as standalone products for developers. I still know people who are using older versions but 6 will probably pull ahead of other versions by the spring of 02.

Thanks for the heads up, Phil...I get complacent and do all my installs under 'Step...[I'm sure IE is a bit too neurotic for that, tho]...

IE 5 ran good, so I was afraid to switch. You know MS, fix it even if it ain't broke. But I finally decided to install. It runs great! A new product from MS that runs as good as the old one? No, it can't be! There's got to be a date where IE 6 will screw up ur comp

I don't know where people get the idea that quicktime is evil. Truth is that it's the only real alternative to WMA if you want to embed streaming media, it also contains a whole API for scripting, as well as being a a full platform, with a range of available compression codecs.
