Voodoo - WIP

Voodoo - WIP

Since I'm pretty much finished with my GUIC submission (still sitting on it, giving myself some time to make sure all things are perfect), I've been putting my creative juices towards my Halloween desktop, which is my favorite skin to create.  \o/

You know how some skins just seem to build themselves, and others are kind of an agonizing frustration?  This one is an agonizing frustration.  Something's just not right, and no matter how many times I look at it and change things, it's not feeling like it's working, (maybe it's cursed?) so I thought I would post a WIP thread and get some help from the community.

Give me your thoughts on what needs to change.

Well, I guess I now know why you gave me this advice.  Wouldn't want our WIP to overlap each other, would we?

Karen, it is my opinion that John was being sincere.

The (red LED) look fits his skin, it didn't fit yours. It's that simple. If you look back, I was the first to thumbs down the red text. And I had no knowledge of John's wip at that time.

I don't think John had any motive other than helping out a fellow skinner with an opinion, just like the rest of us.    ;)

That can be objective. I actually think it did fit her skin ,even better than what is being used now , and that's my "sincere" opinion.

I still can't post to any of his threads, because he's blocked me, because "I don't exist to him."  Forgive me if, now, in retrospect, I doubt his sincerity in helping this fellow skinner.

I don't normally post WIP, but I got stuck with the first version and sought outside opinions.  There's a part of me that's saddened that I still find myself immediately thinking the best of people, and it's only in retrospect that it dawns on me I may have been played.

Ah, well...life is too short to be possessive about font colors.  I'm not going to let it bother me today.  I have skinning and cake decorating on my plate today...can't let this mess with my head anymore.

Karen, My advice was sincere.. I hadn't even started this theme when I wrote that about urs. Nor did I have any clue I would be doing a red skin.

I'm also not worried at all about overlapping WIP's.. what would be the reason for that? Doesn't even make sense. This isn't a contest.

Red over dark red has been done over and over by a million people in a million different ways.. and while it looks ok in ur theme, it certainly didn't strike me a Halloween'y.

Take it or leave any advice I may give, doesn't really matter to me, but please don't get delusional about why I gave it.

In fact... u should keep the red.. then we can bury all this nonsense.

It is if both you and I submit our WIP to GUIC.  I'm not delusional enough to expect any of my works to win over yours, but if we both had red over dark red, it would take some of the wind out of both our sails when presented in the galleries.

Just because I'm gullible, doesn't mean I'm stupid, John.  You don't ever do anything unless it benefits you first in some way.  I'm not going to judge you for that, because that's just the way you're made, and if I were made the same way, I would be doing the same thing.  Occasionally, I forget that's how you're made, and occasionally I think that we've buried the hatchet, but then I see I'm still blocked by you.  I've unblocked you, and was totally willing to let bygones be bygones.  As long as I am unable to cheer you along in your WIP, I know as far as you're concerned, that hatchet is front and foremost in anything you have to say to me.

I like this skin. The dark grey and red looks great.

Ignore the other stuff - I love it when you do, the voodoo that you do... :)

Karen... the skin's just great as it is. Really... I like it just fine, and as for the GUIC? Skin for yourself. Period. No one can do better than that.

The dark grey and red one is my pick. Not to say the first one isn't tip top. Just a preference. You should enter both in the contest.

Good job K10w3.   I can't wait.

I like the Red and actually also like skins with Blue in case you haven't noticed. Even if colors are the same no two skins will totally look a like. Part of what makes it fun. Part of what this type of thread does for me at least is to read and see the different suggestions. The skin will end of being what the person making it what's it to be in the end but some nice (all) suggestions here. I tried doing this once a year or more ago and had 4 replies so after a week deleted it. Not always easy working by yourself with all the already great skins and skinners available. I have two completed now and have to say some may not like the style, color, etc but they are the two best ones I have made in reguards to being correct. I sent Karen one to look at and she took it apart without me asking. Advised me on several factors about my graphics and things that I kept doing ok but not perfect. I never saw those problems but when she pointed them out and I looked hard I could see them. Now I fixed everything she suggested and even found more. Like the docks I use to make. Looked good to me but the dock master WebGizmos pointed out things and put me on the correct path uintil he felt my docks were lined up and correct. Over time there are so many community members that help and it's a wonderful place for an old guy to pass time so thanks to all.

Sorry for such long writing but bottom line is I enjoy reading and learning from these threads as I do learn from them.

Look, I really didn't want to cause any drama.  I apologize if I've done that; it wasn't my intention. I just thought it seemed quite a coincidence that at one point in the week, the opinion given was "don't do LED watch" and then later on in the week, there's a WIP with exactly that.  I guess I should have just been a good little trooper, sucked it up and said nothing.

I'm not entering this one in the contest -- this is my annual gift to the community because Halloween is my favorite, and I know most skinners don't do holiday-specific themes, so I'm doing my part to fill a hole that I see, the best way I can.

I DO skin for myself, but I upload for the community, specifically those who either don't have the time, knowledge or skills to create skins themselves.  If we all just skinned for ourselves, with no concern for the community, the galleries would be empty.  I haven't decided what I'm going to do about the font yet--I may figure out something completely different from anything that's posted here.

Now that I've finished my wedding cake gig (it was a country wedding, with the reception in the barn--the bride likes cows) - I can get back to working Voodoo.  I'm about halfway through the Edit Controls.  I should be done with it by October 1st -- at least I'm shooting for that day as the release date.  I will keep you posted with a fresh screenshot tomorrow.

Awsome cake !! Down here in Georgia that's a real winner....and of course, nothing unusual about the wedding location either.      -- Ace --

Oh my...............this appears to have been taken to a whole other place..........love the wall and like what you are doing with this.

The wall is just something I grabbed from DeviantArt -- I'll be doing a less complex wall after I'm done with the blind.
