[BUG]Invisible row under "Modern UI Applications"

The first entry of "Modern UI Applications" is empty. But I found there a shortcut to the iexplorer with follow entry:

Code: css
  1. "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -contentTile -formatVersion 0x00000002 -pinnedTimeLow 0xc3c1f5a5 -pinnedTimeHigh 0x01cd9f03 -securityFlags 0x00000000 -url 0x00000015 <a href="http://www.google.de/">http://www.google.de/</a>

Are you currently installing a new Modern UI application?

Yes, I did, a small App. Deinstallation of this App and a re-start of Windows 8 doesn't help.

Could you let me know which Modern UI applications you have installed or updated this week please.

Also you have not been trying an app to make tiles for existing apps have you?

Now I've uninstalled Start8 and I've deleted the Start8 entrys from the registry. This action doesn't help. I do not think that the App Asparion Calculator is responsable for this problem. I don't know all updated apps. Today I've updated the Music app and I've installed Start8 1.02 and the Calculator.

I didn't made a tile from an existing app. But I have changed for some weeks the default browser for a short time. I've tested the browser mozilla nightly. This browser can runs as an app and as a desktop browser But meanwhile I have made the iexplorer to the default browser.

 (->Control Panel/Default Software)

Update: I found the solution. On the Metro I found another tile to the iexplorer. After the deletion of this tile the empty row doesn't exist anymore. But the modern app iexplore is still missing.

Is the "Internet Explorer" part of the "Modern Ui applications"? If so, how can I get it back?

New information about the invisible row:

- it is reproducible

- start iexplore app from metro

- right mouse click

- pin on "start"

-> invisible row in "Modern Ui applications"

-> each pinned link creates a invisible row in "Modern Ui applications"

Internet Explorer is not a Modern UI application in reality which is why it will not show under Modern UI applications.

We will see about sorting that surplus line issue in the next update.

Can Metro/Modern IE be started from Start8 instead of the Start screen? I accidentally lost that Metro IE tile and have been unable to launch it since then.

You should be able to recreate the IE tile by searching for Internet explorer in the Modern UI start menu, right clicking on it and picking pin to start.

Somehow the IE shortcut itself from "All Programs" got deleted and now even searching for it doesn't bring it. :(

What is about the app "Store"? This app will not show under Modern UI applications also.

Store is already a start menu shortcut which is why it does not appear under modern UI applications.

Look for "Internet Explorer" at Control Panel/default programs take the first entry like "Set default programs" and actvate it.

That worked when the original IE shortcut was present. Setting another browser as default turned off the Metro IE tile, setting IE as default returned the Metro IE tile. Now it's gone and no way to bring it back. :(

I have a number of blank entries in the Modern UI application folder too as well as one called 001fa. I thought I could right-click, Properties and check the Hide option but I noticed that one of the Mail accounts which I choose to pin to the Start screen disappeared so be careful about doing that. I suspect that the other blank entries are also Start screen apps that Start8 is not detecting correctly. Either way, the blank entries look like a bug so I'd like to see a future update of Start8 either detect these and show them properly or not display them at all.

Incidentally, I have an issue with the tile for Rocket Riot 3D, which I bought from the Store, not displaying on the Start screen and I'm wondering if this was an app I inadvertently hid by mistake (i.e. it was one of those blank lines). I can only play this game through the Game app, where it works perfectly, but I can't uninstall it because the only way to do so is from the Start screen and there is no tile! I suspect that if I could uninstall the reinstall then it would display the tile properly. This issue may not be related to Start8 though; it may just be a coincidence that I came across it at the same time as I noticed the blank lines in the Modern UI applications folder.

*EDIT*

The blank lines are favourites I added to the Modern UI Internet Explorer app that I also chose to pin to the Start screen, e.g. Play.com, HMV, Amazon and YouTube. The 001fa entry is my Karoo mail account pinned to Start screen from Mail. These are obviously not being displayed by Start8 correctly because they are normal tiles but optional ones pinned their by users.

*EDIT 2*

Sorted out Rocket Riot 3D issue as I noticed it was listed in the Modern UI applications folder but not on the Start screen. When I checked the shortcuts properties it had the Hide flag set. Unchecking that then made it visible on the Start screen. I must have accidentally hid it when I was trying to remove those blank lines.

Had you just updated it?

Because I saw the empty rows today again. I've cleaned the cache of IE browser (modern and desktop) and I've cleaned the jump list in the windows taskbar (second tab). So I can not say what is the reason that it works now, after a while.

(Before I've updated Start8 ( two days ago) I've also cleaned the registry entries of Start8.)
