Let The process begin

Well my Partner and I have taken the plunge and bought a block of land and will be building our dream home. At the moment we are in the planning stage with a reputable builder. For those Aussies it's GJ Gardner Homes. We are auctioning the house in Melbourne in March so the proceeds from that will be more than enough to cover the entire costs for our new abode. So far in 2 open days there have been 68 groups of people gone through the house, 10 of those have requested engineering reports and 3 have consulted builders to visit and give them ideas on renovations or extensions. It's in a great part of Melbourne to. Ascot Vale, 5 minutes from Flemington Racecourse. I have a feeling the bidding is going to get hot on auction day. I will post progress pictures as each major point in the construction process is reached. But hopefully we should be in by Christmas or very early in the New Year. Oh we are building in Bendigo where we currently live so theres no location change :)

Very cool to watch it get built. But what does it face?

You need some badges, The_Gear.  ;)

Nimbin...it's looking really nice. What will be the colors of the siding? The door and window sashes?

the house faces the road, But the block we have is an unusual shape, It's like a big 7. The house itself is at the back of the block about 20 meters off the road

Yup, a good distance from traffic.... and it'll give ya time to find a suitable deterrent for peddlers and doorknockers.

Hehe, I had this rotty and I'd just have to say in a gruff voice: "Nels [short for Nelson], Who's at the door, who's at the door, and he'd be at the doorstep snarling and growling likee a real savage beast... which soon made wannabe doorknockers turn around and go elsewhere.  Funny thing is, they didn't know he would not step past the doorstep without his leash... that he was more more savage than a newborn kitten  Truth was, without the gee-up, he was a gentle as a lamb and would more likely lick people to death than bite them.

Sadly, while living in Tassie, he was darted and taken by a mob going around stealing dogs of certain breeds for illegal dog fighting. >:(

Latest Development. Blue stuff. It's insulation of some sort. Can't remember what it's actually called, But it really puts the house in profile now :)

Looking good. Won't be long you will be spending the week cleaning windows. |-)

Not sure it's the same thing but a few years ago a friend of mine had a house built. They used that Blue barrier insulation that looks like your's. He told me it was the best available and keeps the heat in and cold out depending on the season. Opposite for the warmer weather.

Suppose i should post a layout of the actual interior design. :)

What a great layout and floorplan Nimbin, nice separation of the master suite from the other sleeping areas.  The only comment I can make is that the kitchen area does seem small.  I am impressed and somewhat jealous.  I'm sure you are excited and can't wait until construction is completed.  :)

I've certainly seen worse floor plans in my time...;)

On the plans it does seem small, But the actual size is quite large. The pantry is whats known as a butlers pantry, which in english means bloody huge. thats where the fridge, freezer and microwave will go, so the actual kitchen space will be maximized. :)

The original design from the builder is called The Caspian. We have changed it so much that they have now renamed it after me lol. So it's now called The Kendall. But in reality we havent changed it that much, umm lets see, we added 2 extra rooms, moved the alfresco, reversed linen cupboards and removed one to extend a walk in robe in the daughter bedroom, we redesigned the laundry and oh we flipped the whole original design (the garage was originally at the other end of the house). so not that much really :P

It'd do me, toooooo !!!!  However, I'd have had the archytect name it specifically 'The Man Cave' on the plans so there was no confusion as to its  purpose when others eye off its potential.

;P

Other than that, everything is perfect and well laid out.

Way back in '72 I'd done a project design in First Year and part of it was to submit EVERYTHING involved in the design process....aka all sketches...doodles... and one of the other guys had written on one of my sketches 'sex room' as a label...in Biro...

Wasn't too 'professional' to submit as a student.... but nothing else I could do....;p

Hehe, sex room, eh?  And you still passed, so your grading teacher[s] either thought it was a mistake or amusing.

Fortunately, I, or nobody on my behalf, ever submitted anything 'embarrassing' like that... though a piece of paper with "I think Miss Memery has great tits" in my handwriting did go missing....  obviously it wasn't handed in or found by a staff member or I'd have copped one heck of a caning.

Talking in class during lessons was not permitted, so the note was passed along the back row to a mate on the opposite side of the room.  He got it okay, but from there it mysteriously disappeared into thin air....phew !!!!

Windows have been installed and the double front doors have been fitted. That's not the door colour. The actual colour is Monument Grey. The window frame colour is matt black. Oh and you can also see the bricks have been delivered. That starts Wednesday :)

Brickwork progressing nicely. Insulation is in walls inside and they have started the feature wall as well.

If I weren't so green with envy I'd say that the build is bloody fantastic and coming along a treat.  However, being that I am, green with envy, that is, the best I can muster up  is bloody good luck to you's on a beaut house and design.... it's truly a man/family cave to be proud of.

:) |-)
