Does your UI not render in the new version? Please post here!

We're trying to make things good!

Hi,

We've heard from a number of users that their UI isn't rendering with the new version of the game. We want to fix the issues, but we need your help!

If your UI was rendering in the previous revision but not in the current version, please post to this thread!

Please include:

1. The platform you're playing on (PC/Mac)

2. If you're using a laptop, tablet, or desktop

3. Your operating system

4. Your video card(s)

5. If you are on PC, if you were using DirectX 9 or the DirectX 11 version before.

6. If you are on PC, can you please try the following steps to see if this helps the game UI to render:

If you want to run Offworld Trading Company in DX9, please use the OffworldD3D9.bat that is in the install directory. You can find this easily by:

  1. Select Offworld Trading Company in your Steam Library list
  2. Right-click and select Properties
  3. Select the Local Files tab
  4. Click on Browse Local Files...

If you see people in other forums mentioning this, please direct them to this thread.

Thank you!

I just purchased the game and I'm having this issue.

  1. Mac
  2. Laptop (Macbook Pro 13" mid 2014)
  3. OS X 10.10.2
  4. Intel Iris (1536 MB)

Could you please revert the update in the meanwhile? Not being able to play after just buying the game is quite frustrating.

Thank you

Windows 8.1 PC

Laptop with an i3 3120M processor (this implies an Intel HD 4000 graphics processor)

Ran the game before update fine on DX11.  After the update, menu's mostly worked (had a crash once but don't recall what I was doing), but got a consistent crash when starting the game, right before the scanning phase of the game should have started.

DX9 works fine as a workaround for now.

I've seen at least two other people complain about this issue with Intel graphics chipset, so if it were me, I'd look into that as a common denominator.

I do not necessarily have this problem unless I hook up my laptop to an external monitor.

The problem (IMO) is a result of the unadaptive graphics settings. So, it did not work with my external monitor UNTIL I unplugged the monitor, re-opened the game, closed the full screen option, replugged the monitor back and then clicked the full screen option again.

Once I did this, I could see the right resolution for my monitor as well.

My system is:

Macbook Pro 13" mid 2014

OS X 10.9.5

Intel Iris

I noticed that if I make the game windowed it works. It's a bit pixelated on my retina display but it works. As soon as I make it fullscreen, the UI is no longer visible. Hope it helps.

1. PC

2. Laptop with dedicated and integrated graphics

3. Windows 7 x64

4. AMD HD7970m discrete and Intel HD4000 integrated.

5. Using DX11 before.

6. DX9 runs normally and renders the menu but seems to BSOD when run on the discrete card after about 10-15 minutes when it wasn't before in DX11. I haven't tried it using the integrated but could if you're interested.

I have noticed I can run the DX 11 client on the integrated card without issues and the UI is displayed (some minor fps issues but it is being run at 1080p), tested it playing with a buddy online so it seems stable but when it is switched to the discrete card only the background is rendered as described above.

All of my drivers are up to date for my setup, I checked today!

I hope this is ok, I've had UI issues since my first time trying the game on EA launch day, not just with the patch.

1. Playing on PC

2. Desktop

3. Windows 7 64 bit

4. geForce GTX 560

5. DirectX 11, tried instructions for DX9 (went to game dir and ran the dx9.bat and had the same issues.

(in really banging my head against the wall and wanting to play campaign I just started a game where the UI was MIA to start, and slowly just appeared as I scanned. Hadn't had that before!)

My hardware is a late-2009 27" iMac running Mavericks.

Processor  3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB

I would rather run OTC in OSX but at this time I prefer running the game in my Bootcamp partition under Vista because I can lock the map from edge scrolling (can't on Mac) and I can run at a higher resolution more smoothly than on OSX. 1920x1080 vs 1800x900, both Medium quality.

Up till the last update I could run perfectly under Vista (with a few crashes - one blue-screen crash was in 3rd tutorial mission while the game was pause and I was having dinner. I did't see it happen but I could see that my Mac had rebooted back into Vista.

After the last update I could not see the startup menus with any resolution setting, full-screen or windowed.

The I started the game with OffworldD3D9.bat  and I got my menus back but they are a bit slow and jerky compared to before.

I also have the latest ATI drivers that my iMac can run under Vista.

To boil it all down, things seemed fine untill the last update.

Thank you for your feedback everyone!

We created a new release candidate to try to fix some of the problems. The directions to download it are here:

https://forums.offworldgame.com/461698/page/1/

Note: This probably DOES NOT fix the Mac issues. If it does, let us know. If it doesn't fix PC problems, especially let us know.

Thanks!

I know you said, let us know if it doesn't, but I'll just be that guy, and say it DID fix my issues running the game on my Windows 8 Intel HD 4000 graphics laptop.  Thanks for your hard work and quick response.  Sorry you had to drop hardware rendering for it.

I'm the guy with the old below spec iMac. The game starts up nicely with smooth responsive menus now under both Vista and OSX.

2. Laptop MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

3. Yosemite, 10.10.2 (14C109)

4. Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

I managed to get the menu to appear, by hovering over the top toolbar, going to Window and clicking Fullscreen. I tried to run a tutorial, but it was way too heavy for my laptop... Unplayable at the moment.

Sidenote: I just bought it today, so I haven't tried it with the previous version.

It does not seem to reliably fix my issues. Sometimes I start a campaign game and after a couple seconds the UI appears, sometimes it doesn't. I just seem to have to wait (with time ticking away) for it to appear.

Hey everybody,

I wanted to check in to see if people were still having rendering issues with the latest version of the game. (4853 that was available on February 20th.)

We should have a Mac solution coming in the next few updates.

We are currently working on a new UI solution for the entire game that should reduce the UI latency and remove the hardware issues. This won't be a quick addition (we're expecting it to take a few months), but we are hoping that this will drastically improve the performance and the hardware issues we're currently having with our interface solution.

Thanks!

I remember in the credits that you referenced Unity for an engine and another product for the interface (I can't remember the name).  Does this mean you're going with a different solution?  Kind of sounds like it when you say months.

Could it have been NGUI for the UI?

Unity recently implemented their own UI system. I think you should look into that.

I just bought this game, and I have access to computers in two seperate locations.  One of them runs the game without any UI issues, the other one shows 'broken image' links for all UIs.  Thankfully I still have a bit memorized who is what and where.  With that said.  I'm going to give the info for the computer that does not work.

1. The platform you're playing on (PC/Mac):                                                                                                   PC

2. If you're using a laptop, tablet, or desktop:                                                                                                Desktop

3. Your operating system:                                                                                                                            Windows 7 Home Premium

4. Your video card(s):                                                                                                                                  Nvidia GeForce GT 530

5. Not Applicable to my Post.

6. If you are on PC, can you please try the following steps to see if this helps the game UI to render:                  Attempted, Did not help.

I hope these answers help and let me know if you need more info.  I can also answer these questions for my other computer, but I won't have access to it for roughtly 6 hours from this posting.  I honestly wonder if the issue has something to do with permissions...

Hey JunionPintal,

Ok, we'll be fixing the problem your having sometime soon (within a month, I hope?). Right now, there's a work around. Unfortunately, you have to modify your registry, but it's a pretty simple operation:

Open the Registry Editor (Run>Regedit).
Expand the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder.
Locate the ".svg" folder.
In the folder - Right click>New>String Value.
Change the new Value's name to "Content Type", then double click it and change the "Value Data" to image/svg+xml.

We'll let you know when we fix this on our side so that you can remove this registry entry.

Please let us know if this doesn't fix this problem.

Thank you!

Requireing people to regedit in order to fix the issue :P, that's gonna scare a few ;).  But the fact you're working on it shows you know that.

On my side my registry already had it registered there by InkScape looks like, hope this dosn't mess up some other program..eh I'll find out in time.
