Are there Heroes in GC3 like Master of Orion 2?

I loved finding heroes / captains / scientists / administrators for hire in Master of Orion 2. Please tell me GC3 included this!!!!

omg no way that would make these games THE best ever. I loved the champion aspect of MOO2

"Commanders" who gain experience and can be assigned from ship to ship to grant bonuses are one of the planned features for the first expansion.  Still pretty sketchy on how they will be implemented this far out, naturally.

 incredible news, this makes the game top notch now. I love playing MOO2 thanks to gog.com and love the hire-able leader aspect so much i still play it.
