How Great would it be?...

If influence was logistics, and you had a had a short hard limit outside the influence (logistics) border you could travel but that your colonization and starbase expansion would have to be inside the influence zone. Would drastically slow down expansion. Expansions would be much more ordered and developed along the meniscus of the influence (logistics) border.

Other players sending ships inside your border would carry diplomatic penalties and allow you to shoot those ship out of space without war autodeclared. Since influence is highly variable depending on the strength of the number of people and their morale and etc, the moral of the story would be that your logistics could function the same way. Only the highest strength fleets could be in areas where you can logistically support them.

Would make for a more interesting experience I think as the current no- border, broken influence, silly logistics system on a hex map is just boring.

So you mean set ship range = 0 for all ships, and ship modules that boost ship range cannot be used on ships that have constructor or colony modules?

No I mean when you look at the map you see influence values. Those should be logistics values. If there is zero for logistics then you cant' go there unless you have a ship range boost. I still think some ships should be able to transit outside your basic influence range however not as far as they can right now I also think lack of borders and the way influence and borders work make lots of empty space and for fragmented empires which is just stupid. Also think that Really big fleets should be in areas where there is good logistical support and not wherever.

Currently your max range of travel is measured from the colonies and starbases you construct. Without life support modules you don't get to travel very far from home. What additional purpose would your suggestion serve? Since a mechanic already addresses travel limitations, I don't see what would be gained.

There's a different thread running on the subject of borders, so there seems some interest in something different.

Influence works fine for what it represents. I have had a couple of planets I settled (one captured) that some distance away, but after a bit the expanding borders joined up. The inability to physically control areas of space that others will not just cross and build in is a bit annoying. You should look at some of the colonial expansion patterns here on earth across history. Isolated Greek colonies were annexed by Persia, and eventually became Greek again. In the New World colonies were scattered along the coastline and on the shores of rivers with large expanses of wilderness (empty space) between them. So, not stupid, just an obstacle to overcome.

I dont know probably wouldnt be a good idea, sort of like half of the implementation in the game.
