Can i run this game?

Long story short i need to know if i can run this game and what i can expect, i tried searching benchmarks to see if anyone had my setup and they did not.

Windows 10

i5 4670 quad core at 3.88 GHZ

GTX 660ti 2 gigs of VRAM

8 Gigs of 1600 MHZ RAM

I have two big questions, would i see a sizable performance gain if i upgraded to 16 gigs of ram?

Also, would i see a sizable performance gain if i upgrade to a GTX 960 4GB graphics card?

You can certainly run the game with that. I don't know how well, Beta is meant to be a lot more optimised (coming out tomorrow), but I'd guess maybe on the standard default setting, so not low or high.

A GPU upgrade will help a lot more than RAM upgrade. A 960 is better obviously, looking at some things online it looks like how much better depends on the game. 960 is far better at games which use a lot of tessellation for example, I think. But I am not totally sure it is worth it. Unless you can get it very cheap, or perhaps stretch to a slightly higher end card you might do better to wait until the next gen GPU stuff comes out in the summer, they are likely to offer a significant jump in performance. That obviously depends on your current needs and wants.

A dev could obviously give a better idea on the hardware front. We might be able to say more on the performance front once the Beta is out and we have a slightly better idea of performance. At one point one of the Devs mentioned they may base a lot of their optimisations around the 960 as it is a common mainstream card so that would be in favour of the 960.

Have you read the Official "Can My PC Run This" Thread under the support section?

You should meet minimum requirements.

I personally wouldn't recommend purchasing a new graphics card to play an early access title. There are still performance issues and bugs with NVIDIA cards which should be resolved by release, at which time it would be easier to make the choice on which card would suit best.

I get about 25fps on my i7 1.8GHz laptop with 8GB RAM, 750M at 1366x768 on low settings which is playable, and about 50fps on my i7 3930k 16gb RAM, 970 on mid-high settings at 1080p. I haven't seen AotS use an excessive amount of RAM yet. The GPU would be a better upgrade but I would recommend to wait.

I would get a 970 if you want to see a sizable performance gain. The 960 just isn't as great a card as it's predecessor's in the '60s. In fact some benchmarks have the 960 slower than older cards like the 760. Check some benchmarks and make an informed decision.

This game is all about the GPU. Your CPU and memory are adequate. Focus on a 9-series (or the next generation) GPU. The bigger the better (e.g. 980 Ti). If you want to have other things running in the background then add memory. The 9-series GPU is a cost-effective upgrade for all 6-series GPUs. 7-series could wait for the next gen but doesn't have to!

Interesting. Where did you get the intel?  :ninja:
