they/we whatever you want to call it, think we are in control and this will be a nice little tidy war and it will all be over wellll it's not so tidy and neat when one of "your" loved ones takes a bullet to get the job done, then I heard if Sadam or whatever this guys name is gets away that's okay no prob when I was under the impression we were after him? instead of guarding the freaking oil fields they should be looking into them POW's and stuff which I heard they have not done yet, but I don't know this makes my stomach turn to see the ugliness in ppl and what is even worse?
There will "never" be an end to it or peace on this earth no matter what cuz ppl will be ppl and hate/prejudice/greed is an endless pit in some...

in our lifetime we may or may not see who is next in line but you can be sure it will repeat itself over and over again, cuz us humans are idiots... (and we will never get it right) how much sense does it take to realize you don't kill to have peace you simply remove the sick problem not add to it and act just like it (I really don't get this at all, and the ppl all over are so two faced and caught up in this thing all of the sudden here comes the love and flags out again) but forgotten really fast when its all over until the next mess...

and I'm so mad at this stupid war I cannot believe what is going on I can't see how far we have gotten when we have to resort to this stuff, and then to see they broadcast this crap and the kids get caught up in it and think it's so cool all this killing right on TV (I had to even smack my son upside his head he seems to get riled up w/ it)

but about the money thing, I see ppl that can't even get decent medical care, shelter, food and the County has no money and they whip out billions to go blow up things when you see the police envorcing gun control and non violence

Doreen, you sure have an ally in my husband on that one. He has been saying the exact same thing for ages now. Naturally it would have been better than a full fledged war, I just cannot see with my little knowledge how they would accomplish that task.

paxx: the whole assassination thing was an executive order by President Ford back in the 70's. It doesn't carry the weight of law (i.e. no repercussions if you break it) and any subsequent President can override it with an order of their own.

Anyway, the whole definition of 'assassination' is murky in times of war. A general or any other high-ranking official can be technically 'assassinated', and in military regimes all the government officials are military targets. As Commander-In-Chief, he has the constitutional right to direct attacks on the enemy, and the enemy military Commander-In-Chief is Saddam Hussein.

I think any law restricting assassination would unconstitutional, since it would cripple the President's ability to carry out his constitutional responsibility as Commander-In-Chief. Any enemy could make himself un-targetable just by giving himself a civilian governmental title.

The real intent behind President Ford's executive order was to prevent the nuclear superpowers from assassinating each others' leaders and possibly triggering a nuclear war thereby. Because conventional counterrattack of one superpower against the other was totally unmanageable, that left only lobbing a nuke or doing absolutely nothing in response to an assassination. we had "off the record" agreement from the Soviets on this point, but never from the Red Chinese.

Its only been a week. I am afraid though, that the war will get allot dirtier for both sides in the coming days. The US/UK/AU will most likely decide to shoot anyone with a gun, and army soldiers who hide behind civilians will be killed... along with the civilians. I suspect numbers like the World Trade for Iraquis or higher by the 3rd week after an all out assalt on Bagdad from the South and North.

The US/UK/AU soldiers get killed mostly trying to not kill civilians and stuff. I think the all out assault will come when the brass realizes that they have to instill fear among those who will use terroristic tactics. But that decision will cost allot of lives.

I will be watching week 3 very closely.
