Let me turn off drone animations

My rig slows to stop on very big battles even with all Video options minimized.  I wish I could also turn off drone animations since these are relatively unimportant, and drone flurries (eg when placing a carving turret next to a repair bay) noticeably slow the rendering.

I understand that drone effects must still be calculated, so reducing just the GPU burden may not do a lot.  Also, Substrate drone hives might have to be excepted, as they seem to hang around areas but with no visible structure - so if you couldn't see them things would be mysterious.  Maybe a "reduce drone visibility" setting in the Video options...

Thx

I understand your plight.. but this is mean't to be pushing limits and showing off the limits of hardware. Not back scaling for a small number of people.

By your logic we wouldn't request anything that improves performance, and the existing video nerfs would be removed. Then only people with absolute top-end rigs could run the game, and the eligible player base would dwindle to an even tinier percentage.  I doubt that's what you really want.

I bought this game to play big battles.  To maximize my ability to do so, I want to turn off some more of the impressive but (like shadows) totally useless eye-candy e.g. PHC dreadnought and repair bay drones.  With 100+ dreadnoughts on the map, it matters - or so I suppose.  It's a reasonable suggestion and perfectly appropriate for me to make.

This may be useful to you, should show you how to go in and turn some things further down than the game's options allow:

Thank you, Tictoc.

I've now tried the graphics tweaks mentioned there and see little improvement in the cases I was mentioning.  So it may be that my basic problem is CPU load, not GPU.

Reducing the drone swarm density, especially when there are bunches of dreadnoughts, still seems to make sense in terms of reducing unnecessary load.  I leave it to the devs to do what they want.

I wonder if you can go into the game's files and change and reduce how many drones a unit spawns. Then you could make them tougher too to make up for fewer of them, if you wanted to. These would only be an option if you only play SP skirmish though.

hahahahaha ms-toxic-i-wanna-play-alone-elitism strikes again. hahah really? u actually want people with low end rigs to NOT play? do u not realise that those people actual make up the majority of players? aka u dont want stardock to sell to more consumers?

i think thats a good idea, even if for u as the player u wouldnt get to see much of what the drones are doing at least ur rig would run better. i think they generally limit the amount one can downgrade the gfx of a game so that certain types of people dont play the game and then complain that the gfx is awful meanwhile their system's are just too weak to run the game..

but from what ive seen a lot of people didnt even buy ashes since they assumed it wouldnt run on their rigs, so if what u propose was brought forward it might possibly encourage more people to try it

how does ur PC fare vs the minimum requirements? https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/470503

found this page, it refers to an ini file that reduces settings, im not sure if it could help reduce the lowest settings in game even lower?
